    • - Don't forget you can watch highlights of this match, along with every Premier League game, from 00:01 on Monday morning (UK only).
    • 18:00 It's all over. Birmingham, Blackpool and West Ham are the three teams relegated. Wigan, Wolves and Blackburn survive on the final day. Villa 9th, Liverpool 6th a comfortable 4 points behind Europa League-qualifying Spurs.
    • 17:55 Unless Stoke score twice in the dying embers of their game against Wigan, Villa will finish in 9th place!
    • 90+4' There's the final whistle. We're waiting on other full times but Villa are set to finish 9th, while Liverpool must settle for sixth and a season without European football. Still, neither side can complain after spending large chunks of the campaign each as very real relegation candidates.
    • 90+3' Incredible final day stuff, but not here at Villa Park. N'Gog is put through but is offside. Sums up a very insipid contest, really.
    • 90+2' West Brom have made it 3-3 from 3 goals down which lifts Villa up to ninth!
    • 90' Four minutes added time. I doubt it's enough for Pool to get the two goals they need.
    • 89' SUBSTITUTION: Time-killing change for the hosts as Ashley Young comes off with Michael Bradley on in his place.
    • 88' Wolves have pulled back to 3-2 from 3-0 down which puts Birmingham in the drop zone on goals SCORED. Yep, this is up there with the 2005 dogfight. Meanwhile, Suarez cannot beat Friedel with a weak shot after good buildup play.
    • 87' He works it short, gets it back in a more central position and gets a corner on the other side off the back of Flanagan. Another short corner ends in them conceding a free-kick.
    • 86' Agbonlahor works some magic on the left to get in a crossing position, but it's blocked out for a corner. Ashley Young will take...
    • 84' Collins, who's had a belting game outside of his inexplicable miss at the other end, continues to keep Kuyt quiet and gets Villa another goal kick.
    • 83' Meanwhile, finally something to report at Villa Park - Albrighton one-two's with Agbonlahor and fires a fierce drive which Reina parries.
    • 82' Michael Owen has made it 4-2 to Man United. Blackpool look to be heading down with Wigan ahead and Birmingham level.
    • 80' Birmingham have equalised through Craig Gardner. Two goals in the last ten minutes will put Liverpool in the Europa League.
    • 79' N'Gog goes down easily in the box, which is so unlike him.
    • 78' An Evatt own goal has seen Blackpool go 3-2 down at Old Trafford. They're down and Wigan are safe as it stands.
    • 77' Clever ball from Downing finds Bent onside, despite the claims of the Pool back line - he tees up Agbonlahor for the tap in to seal the game... but he can't get his foot on it. Unbelivable.
    • 75' Suarez fires over after good work from N'Gog.
    • 74' Young tries to tee up Bent on the edge of the box, it's a little behind the striker but he gets back on it and fires weakly straight at Reina.
    • 73' Collins heads clear two consecutive Suarez crosses from the right flank. Villa break through Agbonlahor but he's snuffed out.
    • 72' It's Aurelio's... and it flashes wide of the far post.
    • 71' ...with sustained Liverpool possession ending with Collins bringing down Shelvey just outside the 'D'. Aurelio and Suarez seem to fancy this one. Villa have a 6-man wall.
    • 70' Liverpool are finally putting up a fight. Series of corners for the visitors, each one being headed out for another by a Villa defender. How will the sequence finally end...?
    • 69' SUBSTITUTION: Villa also make a change, Reo-Coker making way for Gabby Agbonlahor.
    • 68' SUBSTITUTION: Joe Cole comes off for David N'Gog.
    • 67' Flanagan to Shelvey, to Meireles... he's in on goal! He tries to square it across the 6 yard line as his angle is tight, but Reo Coker does superbly to cut it out.
    • 66' It looks like Skrtel concedes a corner trying to see a ball out for a goal kick, but the referee gives a free-kick for Walker's physical 'help' in assuring the centre-back touched it before it went out.
    • 64' The free-kick from the right is whipped in by Young... and how did Collins fluff that? It lands at his feet 5 yards out, and he wasn't ready for it. It bounces off his shins and out for a goal-kick.
    • 63' Joe Cole needlessly leans on Kyle Walker to halt the full-back's run, and gets a yellow either for that or his protests afterward.
    • 62' Dunne did well to cut out what could have been a brilliant long pass upfield, but Suarez was able to collect the second ball and after fooling Walker with a fakeout, crosses it low to Meireles who's on his own with what appears to be an open goal... until Friedel races back into position with a vital save.
    • 61' STUNNING SAVE BY FRIEDEL! Meireles denied a certain equaliser!
    • 59' Liverpool aren't showing enough to get back into this game, for me. A change or two needed ASAP. That said, if Spurs remain ahead nothing Pool do will change anything.
    • 58' Blackpool have taken the lead at Man United. Incredible. They were set to survive even with the draw.
    • 57' The free-kick delivery hits the wall but Suarez collects at the other side. His cross results in a failed overhead kick attempt and nothing else.
    • 56' Walker brings down Suarez as the forward tries to latch onto a lofted through pass into the box. Minimal contact, if you ask me. Booking nonetheless.
    • 55' The cameras pick up a Spurs fan, donning their light blue away shirt, in the Villa end. Obviously, he's loving how things are going so far.
    • 54' Villa are getting better and better here, A.Young slides Bent through in the box though a little wide of goal-scoring range. He tries to return the favour for the winger with a cross into the danger zone but it's ahead of his run and Skrtel hoofs it away.
    • 52' Suarez, now operating on the left flank, unleashes a cross from just inside the Villa area but it's over Meireles, the away side's only other forward player, and out for a goal kick.
    • 51' More bad news for Liverpool: Roman Pavlychenko has put Spurs ahead against Birmingham. It's looking like a Europe-free season next year for Dalglish's troops.
    • 50' Villa win a corner, but Ashley Young's delivery is heavy and Skrtel is able to watch it drift straight out for a goal kick.
    • 49' Aurelio brings down the lively Albrighton, but escapes a caution.
    • 48' The 1-0 lead currently has Villa in 10th, an impressive position considering the season they've had and their -11 goal difference.
    • 47' Luke Young once again has Suarez's number, mugging the Uruguayan of possession before he can approach the box from the right-hand side.
    • 46' Liverpool get the second period underway at Villa Park - if things stay the same at White Hart Lane, they'll need at least two goals to be playing European football next season!
    • 45+3' Final warning for Lucas as he brings down Reo-Coker... and there's the half-time whistle.
    • 45+2' Cole has one last crack at drawing Pool level before half-time, but his final ball to Suarez is cut out.
    • 45+1' Suarez finally gets in on goal, but he's offside.
    • 45' The board is up... we're going to have 3 minutes added time. With all the injuries, I'd have predicted about 30 myself.
    • 44' Wolves are currently in the relegation zone after Blackpool's equaliser takes them out for the time being. Spurs meanwhile are still deadlocked with Birmingham but have nothing to worry about with the score as it is here.
    • 43' Meireles is next to be down on the floor after losing an aerial exchange to Reo-Coker, who's already been booked. Looked like the Portugal man made a meal of it, though.
    • 42' Poor pass by Joe Cole, again, almost lets Albrighton in but Aurelio cleans up for his team-mate.
    • 41' Arsenal and Blackpool have both equalised, while Blackburn lead Wolves by two goals now.
    • 40' Meireles then takes his frustration out on Petrov with a late challenge, which sees the attacking midfielder booked.
    • 39' Luke Young brings down Kuyt 30 yards out. The free-kick is whipped into the danger zone but Meireles is inches away from getting his outstretched foot on the end of it. Goal kick.
    • 38' Joe Cole tries to wave his magic just outside the Villa 'D', but is eventually taken off the ball.
    • 36' Incredible run down the right from Suarez takes two Villa defenders several attempts to finally handle and clear.
    • 35' How things have changed. This was all Liverpool early doors and after a dreadful period of zero action and countless crocks and bumps, the home side have barged their way into the driver's seat - with a one-goal lead to boot.
    • 34' That's Downing's 11th goal as a Villain, and his 9th league goal since his switch from Middlesborough two years ago.
    • 33' GOAL! DOWNING! Cross into the box from Albrighton flies over several heads in the box but finds the winger at the far post, and after taking a touch he puts it away from a difficult angle.
    • 31' Ashley Young is next to be left in a heap on the pitch after being dispossessed by a crunching - but legal - Joe Cole challenge. Yes, that Joe Cole. Tracking back to defend. This is turning into an episode of Casualty.
    • 30' Carragher is back on, by the way, sporting a red headband over his cuts. You know, just in case anyone doubts his commitment to Liverpool.
    • 29' Great link-up between Kuyt and an improving Cole, but Walker does well to muscle the latter off the ball.
    • 28' SUBSTITUTION: Like Spearing, Delph can't continue and Albrighton comes on in his place.
    • 27' Villa have had 77% of the last 5 minutes' possession, though I believe holding the ball while waiting for a player to be taken off the pitch shouldn't count as 'possession'.
    • 26' Blackburn and Fulham have both taken the lead, by the way, while we wait for Villa Park to get back going again...
    • 25' Now it's Delphs turn to recieve treatment. This game really hasn't got going yet.
    • 23' Play finally gets back underway while the Liverpool skipper gets cleaned up off-pitch.
    • 22' Manchester United and Newcastle have taken the lead in their respective games, meanwhile - the latter not being good news for Villa's hopes of a top half finish.
    • 21' Villa have their first corner which Collins heads towards goal, but very gently so, and it's cleared. Ashley Young attempts a piledriver from 25 yards which is blocked by Carragher at the expense of a busted face.
    • 20' Villa finally work the ball into the Pool box but Bent scuffs a turn-and-shoot scenario, allowing Reina to collect without danger.
    • 19' The first Premier League goal has finally gone in - not here at Villa Park, but at Upton Park where ex-Pool player Bolo Zenden has given Sunderland the lead against the doomed Hammers.
    • 18' Villa finally put together a lengthy string of possession, but the visitors' pressure is good and is keeping the hosts away from their penalty area.
    • 17' Oh and Freidel's save moments ago was actually a right-footed shot from Lucas after a poor attempt by a Villa player to head clear.
    • 16' Walker concedes the second corner of the game intercepting Suarez's ball to Cole. It's cleared as far as Shelvey, who balloons it over from 25.
    • 15' Lucas fouls Bent in the middle of the park, but Villa are unable to build any meaninful possession from their free-kick and Pool have it once more.
    • 14' Nice pass from Aurelio into the box which Meireles swivels with his first touch before getting a deflection from his shot. The corner's whipped in and finds a head.. saved by Friedel!
    • 13' Villa were just starting to piece together some decent passing of their own before Walker gives the ball away under zero pressure and Liverpool are back to where they were. Dunne halts momentum with a foul on Kuyt.
    • 12' SUBSTITUTION: Jonjo Shelvey comes on for the injured Spearing.
    • 11' Ashley Young shoots off-target, and Spearing is on the ground again. Looks like he's more hurt than he let on.
    • 10' The move ends when Kuyt is flagged offside, though it didn't really look to be the case. Dalglish certainly didn't think so - he's fuming from his technical area.
    • 9' Spearing comes back on seconds after walking gingerly off, and plays his part in some lovely Liverpool passing play around the centre circle.
    • 8' The youngster needs a bit of treatment, but should be able to shake it off. Reo-Coker apologises to him as he leaves the field as per the rules.
    • 7' Reo-Coker gets an early booking for a painful-looking slide in on Spearing.
    • 6' Tidy passing between Spearing and Suarez ends with an interception for a Liverpool attacking throw, which Villa deal with.
    • 5' Joe Cole hasn't got off to a good start. A couple of mis-guided passes already in the opening 5 minutes and his body language doesn't look good so far.
    • 4' Speaking of Liverpool goalkeepers, Champions League final hero Jerzy Dudek announced his retirement yesterday.
    • 3' Ashley Young sends a ball into the Pool box, but it's more hope than expectation and it finds nobody but Pepe Reina.
    • 2' The visitors are already having the better of possession in the opening couple of minutes, but are unable to get beyond the Villa back line thus far.
    • 1' Today's senior official Lee Probert blows his whistle and the home side kick off!
    • 16:00 The teams are out at Villa Park and kick-off is a heartbeat away - can Liverpool pip Spurs to that coveted Europa League spot? Or can Aston Villa end a turbulent season with a respectable top half finish?
    • 15:55 "Please win Reds I'm counting on you I've supported you since I was born in the hospital my family has been on your side for generations if Tottenham draw and u beat villa we will be in the Europa and we can win it with a team like this come on do it for the Purdies" Jack, 14:03pm
    • 15:50 Kenny Dalgish, meanwhile - who operated as caretaker boss at Anfield before being signed to a full-time deal recently - has refused to reflect on what has been a crazy season for Pool. Full article
    • 15:45 Gary McAllister admitted there are no excuses for Aston Villa's disappointing campaign which they can nonetheless end on a high note with victory today against Pool, for whom the Villa caretaker manager played 55 times between 2000 and 2002. Full article
    • 15:40 But Gerard Houllier's side come into this game against the Frenchman's old club in good form, form that has see them escape what could have been a six-team Survival Sunday. Their seven-match run of three wins, three draws and one defeat has them 6th in the form table, the same position Liverpool currently occupy in the actual PL standings.
    • 15:35 The Reds come into this crucial fixture with an impressive record at Villa Park - their last defeat here came in February 1998, and they have won seven and drawn five since.
    • 15:30 So the hosts are unchanged from their win at the Emirates Stadium, while Liverpool do not give Glen Johnson his 250th club start, opting instead for Fabio Aurelio at left-back. Joe Cole comes in for Andy Carroll and Raul Meireles returns from injury at the expense of Maxi.
    • 15:25 TEAMS - Aston Villa: Friedel, Walker, Collins, Dunne, Young, Delph, Petrov, Reo-Coker, Young, Downing, Bent; Subs: Marshall, Clark, Bradley, Pires, Albrighton, Heskey, Agbonlahor. /// Liverpool: Reina, Flanagan, Carragher, Skrtel, Aurelio, Lucas, Spearing, Meireles, Kuyt, Cole, Suarez; Subs: Gulacsi, Wilson, Ngog, Poulsen, Shelvey, Wisdom, Robinson.
    • 15:20 Though all eyes are on the fixtures involving the 5 teams in the last day relegation dogfight, it's nonetheless a massive day for Kenny Dalglish's Liverpool. If they get a better result at Villa Park than Tottenham manage against Birmingham, they'll finish in 5th and play Europa League football next season. But although Villa may appear to have nothing to play for, a profitable top half finish is still possible with victory today.
    • 15:15 Good afternoon and welcome to the 2010/11 Premier League finale and LIVE text coverage of Europa League qualification hopefuls Liverpool's trip to Aston Villa!
