    Time:90'
    • Manchester United
    • Benfica
    • 90+4' The final whistle goes, and it's a draw! Both sides must not lose their final match to ensure qualification. That means United must win at Basel, who held them to a 3-3 draw at Old Trafford two months ago. 'Squeaky bum time' has come early this season!
    • 90+4' Benfica again defend the set piece well. This is it for United...
    • 90+3' Artur pulls off one for the cameras with an elaborate dive to punch a cross clear. Hernandez leaps for a header but it's gone behind for a corner.
    • 90+1' United probing and prodding their way around the edge of the Benfica box now, but the move ends with Smalling rushing his effort and shooting well wide.
    • 89' Rodrigo turns, thinks for a second and then surges past Fletcher intot he box and his shot hits the side netting! The in-form striker has not done that much tonight, but he acould have won this match for Benfica there.
    • 88' Hernandez is caught fractionally offside as he takes down Nani's cross from the right. Time running out for United.
    • 87' This draw may not be a disaster if Otelul Galati can score now: they have pegged Basel back to 3-2!
    • 86' Young and Evra work hard to set each other up for a cross from the left. It's Young who eventually gets the ball in, but it's too high and drifts out of play.
    • 85' Benfica defend another free-kick well enough. A lot of the zip has gone out of United's play over the last few minutes.
    • 83' Benfica substitution: Ruben Amorim replaces Aimar.
    • 82' Rodrigo fires off target when he had better option than to shoot.
    • 81' United substitution: Chris Smalling replaces Fabio. It's the England defender's 22nd birthday today.
    • 80' United substitution: Hernandez replaces Valencia.
    • 78' Fabio clips in a floated ball for Berbatov to volley.... Just high and wide of the near upright! That would have been some goal if it had gone in!
    • 77' Evra gets no help from the officials as he shields the ball while hounded by two players.
    • 76' The corner is defended, but United retain the ball. Fletcher's floated pass is punched away by Artur and Carrick is booked for cynically tripping Aimar. The United midfielder will now miss the next match.
    • 75' Emerson walks a fine line as he tracks Valencia into the box, but he gets his tackle in at the expense of a corner.
    • 74' Javier Hernandez is warming up on the sidelines. He looks over at his manager expectantly, only to see him chewing his gum furiously.
    • 73' Fletcher fails to hit the target at the climax of another United attack. Play is still going from end to end, though the tempo has dropped somewhat now.
    • 72' Kepp calling Aimar a veteran, but he's only recently turned 32! Feels like he's been around forever.
    • 71' Matic gambols down the left channel before getting the ball out wide to Bruno Cesar. The Brazilian squares the ball to Aimar on the edeg of the box, but the veteran fires over the bar.
    • 70' From Infostrada again: "Aimar scores his first CL goal for more than seven years and his first in an away match. His first ever CL goal was also against an English club, in Valencia's 2-0 win against Liverpool in September 2002."
    • 69' Fact of the day: Benfica's Javi Garcia is cousins with former Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia.
    • 68' Valencia eventually takes the corner, but it's headed away with ease.
    • 67' Benfica substitution: Nemanja Matic, formerly of Chelsea, repalces Gaitan.
    • 67' Valencia wins a corner off Bruno Cesar. The Ecuadorean sends the ball in, but the whistle had already gone for a substitution to be made.
    • 65' Rpelays show that Nani was already on his way to ground before Garcia even touched him. Good call from the Turkish official.
    • 64' Nani hits the deck inside the area after a challenge from Javi Garcia, but the appeals are half-hearted and play continues.
    • 63' Young is caught offside as he turns the ball into Berbatov's path. This match could go either way.
    • 62' There were 80 seconds between Fletcher giving United the lead and Aimar equalising with his second goal of the season.
    • 61' GOAL!! MANCHESTER UNITED 2-2 BENFICA!! Bruno Cesar is allowed to surge in from the left and his low cross is blocked by Ferdinand, only for Aimar to finish from close range!
    • 60' Artur got a hand to Fletcher's initial effort, but the Scotsman reacted quickly to finish at the second attempt.
    • 59' GOAL!! MANCHESTER UNITED 2-1 BENFICA!! Benfica struggle to clear their lines and Evra's floated cross is prodded past Artur by Fletcher!
    • 58' Only just realised Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are playing each other as we speak in the ATP World Tour finals. With 18 goals so far in the Champions League this evening and Stourbridge beating Plymouth in the FA Cup, it's quite the evening for sport!
    • 57' Nani's sneaks the ball into the box for Evra who pulls it back to Berbatov... Intercepted just as the Bulgarian was about to pull the trigger.
    • 56' The stretcher is brought on for Luisao, but the Benfica defender eschews it in favour of limping off the pitch.
    • 55' Jones joins a sustained United attack and his persistence sees the loose ball come to the feet of Fabio... Artur is quick off his line again to parry the Brazilian's shot!
    • 53' Nani's free-kick is fired into the wall. Benfica can catch their breath.
    • 52' Great spell for United as Berbatov ghosts his way into the box before Young has a shot blocked! now they have a free-kick on the edge of the box. Can they test artur this time?
    • 51' Young rolls the corner short to Nani, whose cross is decent but punched well clear by Artur.
    • 50' Berbatov picks out a team-mate on the edge of the box with a classy backheel, but only after he had strayed offside. United come again and win a corner.
    • 49' Gaitan has a sight of goal from range, but it's a tame effort that is right at De Gea.
    • 48' Nani has three players around him out wide but he still smuggles the ball inside to Young, who beats his man with his first touch but then slips as he goes to cross. Goal kick to Benfica.
    • 47' This is the first time in 14 months that United have been level at half-time in a CL match at Old Trafford. That match, against Rangers, ended goalless. With the exception of last season's CL final, it is just under five years since United last lost a CL match in which they were level at half-time.
    • 46' Benfica get the second half underway!
    • 45+1' The whistle goes for half-time, and it's been a great opening 45 minutes. A goal apiece at the break is a fair scoreline.
    • 45' Great engine from Fletcher as he tracks Gaitan's run and allows Evra to get back and make the tackle. Carrick pings a lovely ball up to Berbatov, but the Bulgarian was offside.
    • 44' Aimar tries to catch De Gea flat-footed with a shot from range, but the United keeper is more than equal to the low drive.
    • 42' Young chips a ball forward to Berbatov whose shot is blocked for a corner, United's first of the game. It's claimed with authority by Artur.
    • 41' Goal fllying in all over the place this evening. The only match without a goal thus far is Lyon v Ajax. Latest scores and scorers
    • 40' Artur is booked for time-wasting. He's been taking his time over his set pieces for much of the evening, so he can hardly complain. He does though, of course.
    • 39' Nani twists and turns inside the box before feeding Evra. The Frenchman squares for Young, but both men were clearly offside.
    • 37' Bruno Cesar is caught late by Fabio, and the Porto man goes down theatrically. It was a foul, though.
    • 36' Basel are now 2-0 up in Romania. Looks like only a win will guarantee qualification for one of these sides this evening.
    • 35' Great quick feet from Young and Nani gets the Portuguese to the byline, but Artur reacts well to cut out the cross. Really breathless stuff at Old Trafford, end to end.
    • 34' Benfica have five in the box for a free-kick, but United clear. Again Valencia is not able to make the most of the counter-attack.
    • 33' Fletcher is booked for dissent after Nani is harshly penalised for a foul on Maxi Pereira. The Uruguayan full-back went down clutching his face after Nani powered past him, and the referee took the bait.
    • 32' Young is sent charging through after a one-two with Berbatov and Artur comes off his line to block the low shot with his feet! Almost two in a minute for United!
    • 31' That's only Berbatov's second goal of the season. Shades of offside, but the officials were all happy with it.
    • 30' GOAL!! MANCHESTER UNITED 1-1 BENFICA!! Young plays it square and Nani clips a great cross in for Berbatov, who glances his header past Artur!
    • 29' United have had 60% of the possession so far, but they are yet to create a clear-cut chance. Bruno Cesar trips Young and United have another free-kick, a bit further out than Nani's was though.
    • 28' Valencia gallops away down the right on the break. The Ecuadorean's progress is checked and he tries to dink the ball over the top to Young, but the pass is not what was required.
    • 27' Fabio is fed by Carrick on the edge of the box, but he takes too long to turn and his shot is blocked.
    • 26' Fabio leaves Witsel down clutching his knee after a tackle on the Belgian. The United full-back caught him on the follow-through, but the referee decides there was no intent behind it.
    • 25' A quality, whipped delivery from Aimar reaches Javi Garcia, who glances his header way off target.
    • 24' Aimar smartly draws the foul from Fabio out wide. The veteran has been a real nuisance so far.
    • 23' Young caught offside as he runs after a through ball.
    • 22' Nani tussles with Maxi Pereira down the left flank but is judged to have impeded the defender. United turning up the pressure now, but Benfica look very slick on the break.
    • 21' Benfica fail to clear a Nani cross and the ball comes to Young, but his first-time shot does not test Artur to any great degree.
    • 20' Another good'un from Infostrada: "Jones's own goal is the second fastest in CL history, beaten only by Ricardo Gomes who scored an own goal in the 2nd minute to give Rangers the lead against Unirea Urziceni two years ago."
    • 19' Aimar brilliant as he pops up all over the place, keeping the ball moving for Benfica. He almost dribbles his way into the box, only for a timely challenge nicking the ball off the end of his toe.
    • 17' Nani gets his strike through the line of bodies on the edge of the box, but it's an easy save for goalkeeper Artur Moraes.
    • 16' Brilliant run through the centre from Nani, beating three men before being fouled by Ezequiel Garay, who gets a booking. This free-kick is in a great position for a shot, 26 metres from goal...
    • 15' Bruno Cesar goes to ground very easily under Fabio's challenge, and Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir tells him to get back to his feet.
    • 13' United went a goal down to Benfica when these two met in Lisbon on Matchday One. On that occasion, Ryan Giggs scored before half-time to secure a 1-1 draw.
    • 12' In Group C's other match, Basel have gone a goal up away to Otelul Galati. That match is live here
    • 11' Benfica pressing on United in every area of the pitch. Carrick being given no time to pull the strings in midfield.
    • 10' Nani's cross is blocked by Luisao but it comes back to him. The pass inside is sloppy and Benfica can play their way out of trouble.
    • 9' Young is fouled again, this time by Gaitan. The England forward has only just recovered from a toe injury.
    • 8' Good stat from @OptaJoe on Twitter: "Phil Jones has become the fifth Manchester United player to score an own goal in the CL (Brown (2), Keane, Blanc and Lynch). Gift."
    • 7' Antonio Valencia wins the ball out wide and surges forward, but his pass to Dimitar Berbatov is intercepted. Great high tempo start to this game.
    • 6' Bruno Cesar gets a quick corner to feet and flashes a shot across goal that flies past David de Gea's far post!
    • 5' Patrice Evra is struggling with Gaitan early on, and he fouls the Argentine winger here.
    • 4' Jones has never scored a senior goal for either United or former club Blackburn Rovers, but his own goal has put Benfica ahead here.
    • 3' GOAL!! MANCHESTER UNITED 0-1 BENFICA!! Lovely move forward with Axel Witsel and Aimar involved before Nicolas Gaitan's cross is turned in by Phil Jones!
    • 3' Young floats the ball to Darren Fletcher at the far post, but it's overhit and goes out for a goal kick.
    • 2' Ashley Young is fouled by Luisao, and United have an early free-kick chance here. Young and Nani will both fancy this...
    • 1' United kick off and we're underway!
    • 19:43 The players are out on the pitch, and the obligatory handshakes have been made. You can share your thoughts on this match either by posting in the comments section below this matchcast, or by getting in touch with me via Twiter @tony_mabert.
    • 19:40 Following Newcastle's defeat at Manchester City on Saturday, Benfica are one of just five teams across Europe's five major leagues who are yet to taste defeat in their own league this season. The others are City, Barcelona, Juventus and Portuguese rivals Porto. Portuguese league table
    • 19:35 Benfica boss Jorge Jesus is bullish about his team's chances of getting a win at Old Trafford: "We have some players with individual characteristics. We are better defensively than last season, and that has helped us get our two away wins in the tournament this season." Benfica can also take great confidence from their draw at home to United on Matchday One. Match report: Benfica 1-1 Man United
    • 19:30 News of yet another impending milestone for Fergie from Infostrada: "If Manchester United win this match, it will be Ferguson's 100th Champions League victory (including wins after penalty shoot-outs). His closest rival is Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger with 64 for his current club and Monaco."
    • 19:25 Alex Ferguson: "There have been some changes in the team from the one that started the season. You don't envisage having quite so many injuries. Everyone was fresh at the start. We had been through a brilliant pre-season in the States with not one injury. Then you are hit with a little list. It doesn't disrupt us to a great degree but it does unsettle the balance of the team. Sometimes we are having to rethink which team to play whereas when the team is in full flow you don't need to worry."
    • 19:20 The situation in Group C is like this: a win for either of these sides tonight will see them qualify for the knockout stage with a game to spare. A draw could even see them both through if Basel lose away to Otelul Galati. Group C table
    • 19:15 The recent performances of Rodrigo Moreno see Benfica coach Jorge Jesus pick him to spearhead the attack with Oscar Cardozo - the man who scored against United on Matchday One - on the bench. The Spain under-21 international - who has scored four goals in his last three games - will be flanked by Nicolas Gaitan and Bruno Cesar, with Pablo Aimar in the hole behind him. Benfica fixtures/results
    • 19:10 Wayne Rooney is rested for tonight's game as United know that a draw may be enough to see them reach the last 16, depending on Basel's result away to Otelul Galati. Dimitar Berbtov comes in to make only his fifth start of the season. Rooney picked up a knock in training and is not risked. Ashley Young returns to the United side for the first time in a month, since that 6-1 home defeat to Manchester City. With Nemanja Vidic suspended, Phil Jones partners Rio Ferdinand at the back.
