    • 90+3' FULL TIME. There's no time for the corner and United secure a very good 1-1 draw away at Real Madrid thanks to Welbeck's goal and De Gea's saves. Ronaldo scored for Madrid in a game that could have gone either way by the end.
    • 90+2' HUGE CHANCE FOR UNITED! Van Persie chests the ball down on the left of the box and pings in a wicked shot that appears to be heading for the far corner before Lopez throws out an arm to send it wide.
    • 90+1' Ronaldo and Higuain both try to scramble the ball home from close range but Jones does well to prevent the forwards from getting a clean shot away before Ferdinand clears.
    • 90' We will have three added minutes at the Bernabeu.
    • 89' De Gea has been the star of the show for United, but it's been a very impressive defensive performance all round.
    • 88' Time running out for Madrid if they are to snatch a winner here, otherwise it looks like being a great night for United.
    • 87' Valencia is booked for leading with his elbow and catching Ramos in the face. No argument there.
    • 85' RONALDO GOES CLOSE! He lines up a free-kick from 30 yards and produces a wickedly dipping attempt that lands on the roof of the net.
    • 84' Now Anderson comes on for Rooney as United shore up the centre of midfield.
    • 83' A change for Madrid as the one and only Pepe replaces Alonso.
    • 82' Giggs had to hit that first time. He just had to.
    • 81' A cross from Evra is deflected to Giggs and as the Madrid defence hesitates he has the perfect chance to unleash a first-time shot with his trusty left. He fatally hesitates though and takes a touch before seeing a weak effort blocked.
    • 80' Arbeloa with a cross from the right but Ferdinand heads the ball away.
    • 79' GOOD SAVE! After a minor goalmouth scramble, Khedira gets a volley away and De Gea throws himself to his right to catch the ball. Another wonderful moment from the United keeper.
    • 77' Higuain gets a quick shot away from the edge of the box but the alert De Gea is equal to it as he clasps the ball at the post.
    • 76' Stat from Opta: "Sir Alex Ferguson has only won two of his 14 competitive encounters with Jose Mourinho (six draws, six defeats)."
    • 75' Change for United as Luka Modric comes on for the dangerous Di Maria.
    • 74' Ronaldo throws a bit of a strop after Jones pays him close attention from a corner and the ref has a word.
    • 73' After Khedira lashes a shot over the bar, the tiring Welbeck is replaced by Antonio Valencia.
    • 72' ANOTHER HUGE CHANCE! Now Alonso plays Van Persie onside as the ball is chipped in to him near the penalty spot and after taking it down, the striker can only poke a meet shot past Lopez, allowing Madrid to clear off the line.
    • 72' UNITED HIT THE WOODWORK! Van Persie is played in to the right of the box by Rooney and slams a fierce shot against the bar via a touch from Lopez!
    • 71' Nothing comes of the set-piece though as the delivery fails to find a white shirt. As Madrid regain possession, Coentrao has a low shot saved at the near post. It lacked any kind of venom.
    • 70' Higuain whips a low cross in to the near post where Ronaldo is arriving, but Ferdinand does just enough to see the ball behind for a corner...
    • 69' Van Persie drifts in from the left and tries to chip a little pass in for Evra. However, the defender isn't on the same wavelength and doesn't make the run.
    • 68' Welbeck wins a free-kick from Coentrao and is now suffering from cramp. Not surprising - he's been United's best player and has worked his little socks off.
    • 67' Madrid try to pick out Ramos from a corner but United head clear. Jones is then forced to do likewise as another cross comes in.
    • 66' Possession football now from Madrid but they appear to be running out of ideas a touch.
    • 65' The Bernabeu gave Giggs some very generous applause when he came on, which is nice. Obviously recognise a great of the game.
    • 64' Kagawa has done nothing tonight so on comes Ryan Giggs in his place.
    • 63' Fantastic performance from De Gea so far tonight, it must be said.
    • 62' Welbeck embarks on a lovely run into the heart of the Madrid defence but Varane throws out a foot to deflect his low shot wide for a corner. Welbeck then finds himself offside as Evra heads the corner down.
    • 60' SUPERB SAVE BY DE GEA! Coentrao gets free at the back post to meet a cross from Khedira and he slides in to convert, only to be denied by a scrambling save by De Gea as he spreads his body wide and kicks away.
    • 59' A first change of the game as Gonzalo Higuain replaces Benzema in attack for Madrid.
    • 58' Ronaldo threads a fine pass through the defence to Di Maria but the touch is heavy from the winger.
    • 57' Di Maria pops a shot in again but this time it loops up harmlessly. Madrid are accumulating a silly amount of chances, as they so often do.
    • 56' Replays suggest that Varane was a bit lucky. Another referee may well have given that as a red card.
    • 55' Evra threatens to get in behind the Madrid defence and Varane challenges him clumsily as the last man. Evra goes to ground but nothing's given. That was arguably a bit lucky for Madrid.
    • 54' Another chance for Di Maria! Ozil touches the ball off to him and he controls with his thigh before hammering a wicked effort just wide of the post.
    • 53' Another test for De Gea as Di Maria unleashes a shot from 20 yards that the United keeper smothers at his near post. Lots of pressure on United.
    • 52' Ozil slips a pass out to Arbeloa and the former Liverpool man produces a delicious cross. However, United clear from the centre of the box.
    • 51' Jones fells Ronaldo in the middle of the park and the Madrid man wins a free-kick.
    • 50' Rafael loses possession 30 yards from his own goal - very unwise to say the least - but he makes amends with a good diving header to clear from a cross.
    • 49' Ronaldo has the ball with his back to goal following a pass from Khedira and he spins quickly before firing a low effort into the gloves of De Gea.
    • 48' United with a corner and Lopez looks unconvincing before Jones sends a header looping harmlessly over the bar.
    • 47' Welbeck throws himself at a cross from the left and then Lopez is forced to touch the ball away when it comes in from the right. Madrid under pressure early on.
    • 46' KICK OFF!
    • - What did you make of the first half? Can United hold on for a draw? Let me know on Twitter. Follow Tom Adams (@tomEurosport) on Twitter
    • 45+3' HALF TIME. Welbeck put United in front but Ronaldo's header was even better to bring Madrid back level. It's been a breathless first half, with Madrid well on top.
    • 45+2' RONALDO HEADS WIDE! Coentrao puts the ball in and it actually comes off the shoulder of the forward as he challenges Jones for the ball.
    • 45+1' Van Persie heads down at the back post but Rafael snatches at his shot and sends it high into the stands. It has been a tough evening for the Brazilian.
    • 45' United win a corner late in the first half...
    • 44' Madrid feed Ronaldo in the box and though he twists to try and work space he can't get a shot away.
    • 43' MADRID GO CLOSE! Ronaldo fizzes a shot over the bar from 20 yards as he looks to inflict more damage on United.
    • 42' Stat from Opta: "Real Madrid had the joint-most shots (incl. blocked) in the group stages this season, alongside Juventus (126). They’ve scored the most goals from outside the box (6)."
    • 41' De Gea fumbles a shot at the near post but Benzema can't take advantage.
    • 40' MADRID WANT A PENALTY! Di Maria embarks on a thrilling run and goes to ground under minimal contact from Jones. It looked a bit risky from United but play goes on. They were shoulder to shoulder.
    • 39' Rafael fouls Ozil on the byline and it's a free-kick to Madrid, and a booking too.
    • 39' CHANCE FOR MADRID! Ozil pulls the ball back after finding space to the left of the box and Ronaldo tries to flick it inside the far post with the back of his heel. It's blocked though.
    • 38' Ozil peels off Evans to meet a long ball over the top of the defence but his shot from a tight angle is parried wide by a fine save from De Gea. Madrid fail to make anything of the corner.
    • 37' In comes the corner from Van Persie and he finds Rooney at the back post. However, he gets under the ball and sends it high into the air.
    • 36' Nice from Rafael as he casually dinks the ball off Coentrao to win a corner for United...
    • 35' From the corner, Kagawa has a shot blocked before Rooney rifles a shot just wide of the post. United look very threatening from set-pieces.
    • 34' CHANCE FOR UNITED! Welbeck almost has a second as he comes to the near post to meet a curling cross from the left from Van Persie and pokes it at goal. Lopez gets a little touch to take it wide for a corner.
    • 33' Di Maria almost finds a pocket of space from 25 yards but he is crowded out by red shirts. Madrid pushing forward in search of a second.
    • 32' It's just a brilliant, brilliant combination of athleticism, technique and execution from Ronaldo. What a sensational header.
    • 31' The way Ronaldo stayed up in the air seemed almost impossible there. Like someone was pulling him up on strings.
    • 30' GOAL! Real Madrid 1-1 Manchester United! A fine muted celebration from Ronaldo as he scores against his former side. It's a lovely header at the back post as he hangs above Evra in the air to nod it home.
    • 29' Ozil does Rafael with a Cruyff turn but the right-back recovers with a fine sliding challenge as the German tries to cross.
    • 28' Ronaldo thunders a free-kick into the wall and when the ball bounces back out to him he hammers a shot just wide with his left foot. Dangerous.
    • 27' Replays show that Van Persie, already on a booking of course, was possibly guilty of an intentional handball just then. Risky business.
    • 26' Somewhat unconvincing from De Gea as he just gets his fist to a corner. Then he fails to take command from a cross. Still, his most vivid contribution has been that remarkable save.
    • 25' So do United keep pressing forward, or sit back? Surely the latter given Madrid's threat on the break.
    • 24' Stat from Opta: "That is Danny Welbeck's first ever away goal in the Champions League. Priceless."
    • 23' Now Carrick produces an overhead kick to clear a cross and when the ball comes back out, Madrid see Di Maria have a low drive tipped round the post by De Gea.
    • 22' Excellent from Jones. Ronaldo looks ready to spring away on the break but the United midfielder gets a toe in to prod the ball back to his defence.
    • 21' Poor defending from Ramos as he allowed Welbeck to pull off him but it was still a fine header from the striker as he met Rooney's delivery with an angled finish into the far corner.
    • 20' GOAL! Real Madrid 0-1 Manchester United! A huge, huge goal for Danny Welbeck as he rises to meet a corner from the left and directs a fine header past Lopez. Against the run of play.
    • 19' Ronaldo petulantly demands a free-kick when being nudged over by Rafael near the corner spot. Nothing doing though.
    • 18' Ozil is allowed to run through the heart of the United team before a last-minute intervention sees his shot deflected wide for a throw.
    • 17' Less convincing from De Gea this time as he comes and flaps at a corner. Ouch, and now Benzema catches a clearance from Van Persie in a rather sensitive area.
    • 16' Ramos catches Evans on the back of the head with an elbow in the United box but it goes unpunished.
    • 15' Benzema dummies to shoot and instead spreads the ball wide to Ronaldo, who wins a corner off Evans despite a poor piece of control. The set-piece goes wasted though.
    • 14' Evra wins a free-kick from Di Maria which gives United a bit of respite. It has been tough going for the Premier League leaders so far, Madrid's physicality proving a bit too much.
    • 13' Van Persie with some lovely control to nick the ball away from Arbeloa and Alonso and United win a throw. The ball is worked to Rooney but his effort deflects harmlessly away.
    • 12' After Ronaldo causes trouble down the left, Benzema has a shot blocked from just inside the box. The ball finds Ronaldo again and he flicks the ball wide to Ozil, but the cross has too much on it.
    • 11' Ronaldo with an expert piece of control on his shoulder to find Alonso. The ball goes wide and when the cross comes in Michael Carrick has to make an important clearance with his head.
    • 10' Stat from Opta: "Real Madrid have only failed to score once in their last 31 Champions League games, that was against Barcelona at the Bernabeu in April 2011."
    • 9' A corner is cleared out to Rafael and he can't get a clean shot away when the ball drops nicely for him. Madrid threaten on the break but Di Maria runs the ball out of play.
    • 8' Here comes Ronaldo and the stupidly prolific striker gets his first shot away with a poor drilled effort that goes well wide from 25 yards.
    • 7' Now Ramos heads over the bar when a free-kick goes deep to the back post. Madrid are putting United under plenty of pressure early on and it's a lovely open start.
    • 6' WHAT A SAVE! De Gea pulls off a stunning stop as he dives full-stretch to his left to just touch a shot from Fabio Coentrao onto the post! Rio Ferdinand had put a poor clearance straight at the left-back.
    • 5' An early yellow card for Van Persie as he raises an arm and puts his hand in the face of Sergio Ramos.
    • 4' Another chance for Madrid. This time Di Maria drifts in from the right wing and swings at the ball with his left boot. It skews wide of the post though.
    • 3' Now Van Persie looks to play in Kagawa with a quick ball over the top, but the Japan international goes too early and is caught offside.
    • 3' Rooney chips the ball forward for United and Lopez races off his line to head away from outside the box. It's the kind of thing a keeper could make a mess of due to nerves, but he executes it well.
    • 2' CHANCE FOR MADRID! Ronaldo and Ozil are into their stride early on and Benzema then plays in Khedira with a quick pass. He takes a touch and drags his effort wide of the far post.
    • 2' Early indications are that Rooney is starting on the right for United, with Welbeck left and Kagawa tucked in behind Van Persie.
    • 1' KICK OFF! Madrid attacking right to left in their traditional white kit.

    • 19:35 Time for a few stats: Madrid are unbeaten in 33 games at home in all competitions. United have won only twice in 20 games against Spanish opposition. The eight European Cup/Champions League encounters between Real Madrid and Manchester Utd have produced 31 goals (3.9/game). Manchester Utd have never won away against Real Madrid (two defeats, two draws).
    • 19:30 It's a big game for Diego Lopez, who replaces the injured Iker Casillas in the Madrid starting line-up. Don't know much about him? Check out the Euroscout's report. Diego Lopez: Iker Casillas’s replacement
    • 19:25 Madrid's season has been turbulent, to say the least, with reports of bust-ups between Mourinho and the players. It is widely expected this will be his final year in Madrid and with La Liga gone, this is the big one for Mourinho, who has previously won the trophy with both Porto and Inter. All or nothing, you might say. Mourinho: I will win the trophy again
    • 19:20 This is a game worthy of gracing the final, without doubt. If it had been in May, both managers would have been looking to win their third Champions League, with Madrid looking to make it 10 in total. Arsene Wenger says it's about as prestigious as it gets. Wenger: Real Madrid-United a clash worthy of the final
    • 19:15 Fergie has just told Sky Sports in his pre-match interview that Rafael has "the biggest challenge of his life" in facing up against Cristiano Ronaldo tonight. Real Madrid v Manchester United: What Europe thinks
    • 19:10 Meanwhile, Jim White spoke to a certain Gary Neville about Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid and Sir Alex Ferguson, amongst other subjects. Talking Ronaldo, Real and Fergie with Gary Neville
    • 19:05 So, time for some pre-match reading... First up, United legend Paddy Crerand on when the club defeated Real Madrid in the European Cup in 1968. Some brilliant anecdotes in this piece. The night United conquered Real Madrid
    • 19:00 This game has more subplots than Hamlet. It's two of the biggest clubs in the world locking horns, Ferguson v a rival and friend in Mourinho, Ronaldo playing against his former club. He has scored 182 goals in 179 appearances for Madrid since that world record move in 2009. All eyes are on him tonight.
    • 18:55 No surprises in the Real Madrid starting XI as Sami Khedira gets the nod ahead of Luka Modric and Karim Benzema starts up front instead of Gonzalo Higuain. Ronaldo, once of United of course, starts on the left of the attack but he will drift all over the pitch in a free role, and probably have about a hundred shots.
    • 18:50 TEAMS: Madrid: Lopez, Arbeloa, Varane, Ramos, Coentrao, Alonso, Khedira, Di Maria, Ozil, Ronaldo, Benzema. Subs: Adan, Pepe, Carvalho, Essien, Modric, Kaka, Higuain. /// Man Utd: De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Carrick, Jones, Welbeck, Kagawa, Rooney, Van Persie. Subs: Lindegaard, Smalling, Valencia, Anderson, Giggs, Cleverley, Hernandez.
