    • 80' Gomez replaces Klose for Germany while Götze takes over from Reus.
    • 79' Samaras goes for goal, but well off target. Stuffing well and truly knocked out of Greece here.
    • 78' 10 of the 17 goals Miroslav Klose has scored at major tournaments have been headers, including all three he has netted at the Euros. Emphatic all round.
    • 77' Ozil has made Germany tick this evening. Little wonder they are second favourites behind Spain to win this tournament.
    • 76' Papastathopoulos is booked for a late shove on Ozil. Germany smell more goals here.
    • 75' GOAL! Reus with a stunning finish after Sifakis had blocked the shot by Klose, but Reus wallops the volley into the vacant net. Brilliant, brilliant.
    • 74' Liberopoulos decides to try his luck from 30 yards out. Over the bar and almost over and out for Greece.
    • 73' Liberopoulos replaces Makos for Greece, who need an unlikely second goal to set up a grandstand finish.
    • 72' Ball breaks to Mueller in the Greece box, but his shot is deflected wide. All falling apart here for Greece.
    • 71' Samaras tries to escape from Boateng out wide, but the Bayern Munich defender has the legs to deal with the danger before he is brought down.
    • 70' Despite all this domination, Germany have only kept four clean sheets in their last 19 matches at European Championship finals.
    • 69' Greece cut open again at the back as Sifakis is forced to block the shot by Klose, who is only four goals short of Gerd Mueller's record for Germany.
    • 68' GOAL! Klose nods into the unguarded net from Ozil's free-kick, but Sifakis is off his line and Papadopoulos misses the header. A 64th international goal for Klose.
    • 67' Mueller has been wheeled on to take over from Schürrle for Germany.
    • 66' Sokratis brings down Ozil with a late challenge before speaking to the Real Madrid midfielder. Germany have a free-kick out wide here.
    • 65' Fotakis with a corner for Greece, but Papadopoulos can't get any power on the header as it loops over the German bar.
    • 64' Papadopoulos shoved off the ball by Schweinsteiger. Wanted a booking, but the referee decides otherwise.
    • 63' Greece have still had the fewest shots on target of all 16 teams that competed at Euro 2012, but have converted four into goals.
    • 62' Lovely turn on the edge of the German box by Gekas, but he blasts the shot miles over the bar. Was another decent chance for Greece.
    • 61' Germany dampen the Greek party, but this contest not yet over. Germany with a 2-1 lead, but Greece have recovered before.
    • 60' GOAL! Khedira thumps a volley high beyond Sifakis and Germany regain the lead at 2-1. Great ball by Boateng and the finish is blistering from 12 yards out.
    • 59' The Greek fans loving their night again. Greece completed 78 passes in the first half, but are somehow level in this contest.
    • 58' Germany again keeping the ball, but the move ends with Lahm sliding the ball to Schürrle, who lifts the ball miles over the bar from out wide.
    • 57' Klose loses the ball before he ends up fouling Salpingidis. Germany trying to come to their senses here.
    • 56' Germany utterly stunned by that moment, but that was a brilliant counter attacking move by the Greeks as Samaras gave Boateng the slip to equalise.
    • 55' GOAL! Samaras scores for Greece. Salpingidis slides the ball across the face of goal and the forward slides the ball under Neuer. Greece level at 1-1.
    • 54' Samaras breaks into the Germany box. Flicks the ball to Gekas, but he can't race onto the return pass as Neuer comes of his line to collect.
    • 53' Greece have managed 40 ball touches in the opposition half. Özil (62), Schweinsteiger (50) & Lahm (40) have made as many or more.
    • 52' Samaras not doing enough for Greece to keep the ball. Sifakis gives the ball away attempting a clearance. But Germany can't profit. For the moment at least.
    • 51' Badstuber meets a free-kick at the back post before Greece clear the danger. Gekas caught offside in the German area.
    • 50' Another foul by Papastathopoulos on Reus. Germany with a free-kick out wide that they can toss into the Greek box.
    • 49' Papastathopoulos forced to knock the ball away from Klose, who doesn't seem to have lost any of his pace.
    • 48' Greece didn't make a single touch in the opposition box in the first-half against Germany tonight. That just about sums it up.
    • 47' Fotakis has replaced Tzavellas for the Greeks. Vital they don't concede again early on in this second half.
    • 46' We are off and running then in the second period. Greece surely got to come out and do something in this second period.
    • 45+3' There goes the whistle for the break. Germany looking very, very good. They lead 1-0. Surely more goals in the second half for them.
    • 45+1' Remember a German win here could set up a classic confrontation with England in the last four. Schürrle with another fine shot from long-range. Ball spins inches wide. So close to the second goal. Greece all over the show.
    • 44' We are into three minutes of time added on.
    • 43' Torosidis blocks the shot by Schürrle. Superb defending. Germany again go hunting in packs from Ozil's corner. Utterly dominant here.
    • 42' Germany have only kept four clean sheets in their last 18 matches at European Championship finals. Another one here should cement their path to the last four.
    • 41' Plenty of smiles on the faces of those German fans. Klose caught narrowly offside as Germany again base themselves in the Greek half.
    • 40' Makos nods the ball into the path of Salpingidis, who just fails to latch onto the loose ball. Easy enough take for Neuer. Greece need to think about how they are going to go about this now.
    • 39' German chancellor Angela Merkel off her feet to celebrate, and suddenly Greece have to come out of their shells here.
    • 38' GOAL! Lahm slams a shot beyond Sifakis from 20 yards out and Germany lead 1-0. Ball swerves into the corner of the net. Greece finally undone.
    • 37' Tzavellas clears the cross from Boateng, who joins his team in the Greek half. Even the central defenders are joining the party.
    • 36' Greece struggling to get out, but have a bit of respite as Katsouranis is taken out late by Ozil. Greece happy to be in the trenches.
    • 35' Makos scrambles the ball clear after Sifakis had again spilled the shot by Khedira. Ozil showing some lovely skills in the build-up.
    • 34' Torosidis cuts off at source the cross by Lahm. A corner to Germany, but Hummels can't get any pace on the header from Ozil's delivery.
    • 33' All five of Greece's wins at the European Championship finals have been by a one-goal margin. They are used to these types of contests.
    • 32' Schürrle beats Torosidis with a fine run into the area, but can only send the shot spinning wide with the swerving attempt.
    • 31' Samaras picks out Ninis out wide. He cuts inside. Has a shot at goal, and Neuer is forced to dive to his right to make a solid save. Nobody following in for Greece.
    • 30' Tzavellas and Samaras trying to take the fight to Germany, but they do so without anybody supporting the counter attack.
    • 29' Greece fans blowing their own trumpet - literally in the stands. Win, lose or draw they seem to be in the mood for a party. Germans look a bit concerned.
    • 28' Sifakis forced to control a backpass in his own box. Just gets the ball away in time as Klose raced in on goal.
    • 27' Salpingidis races into the German half from Katsouranis's pass, but Neuer is quickly off his line to clear the danger.
    • 26' Reus hammers a volley over the bar from Ozil's corner. Glorious chance, but Germany are again found wanting. Can't afford to keep missing these chances.
    • 25' Reus hammers a shot across the face of the opposition goal, but Klose just fails to knock the loose ball home at the back post. All Germany, and then some.
    • 24' Sifakis forced to block the shot by Reus as Germany continue to lay siege to the Greek goal.
    • 23' Fine ball from Reus into the path of Ozil. Should be scoring from 10 yards out, but Ozil knocks the shot straight at Sifakis. Neat play by Germany.
    • 22' Papadopoulos heads clear the ball from Kherida. The wall of blue shirts continue to hold firm deep in their own half.
    • 21' Germany with 77 percent of possession. No doubt who is playing all the football. Greece so deep they are almost in the stands behind their goal.
    • 20' Ozil tries to pick out Klose on the run. Just overhits the pass and the Greeks can clear the danger as Sifakis hammers it long down the park.
    • 19' Only two of the eight teams to previously win all their Euro group games have gone onto win the tournament. Germany are favourites here, but have yet to find this goal.
    • 18' There has been a lot of rain in Gdansk, and this pitch could be better for such an esteemed occasion. May suit Greece the longer this one goes on.
    • 17' Ninis with a lovely ball into the middle looking for Salpingidis, but Hummels was quick to read that pass and clear the danger.
    • 16' Boateng trying to pick out Khedira, who was involved in a bit of a wrestling match in the box with Torosidis. No harm don though as Greece survive that attack.
    • 15' Samaras goes into the book for a late challenge on Schweinsteiger. Greece with five men across their midfield.
    • 14' Tzavellas knocks the ball away from Ozil's free-kick. Not really probing enough to trouble Greece, who like to defend in numbers.
    • 13' Samaras is penalised for a late tackle on Khedira and Germany can swing a free-kick into the box here.
    • 12' Khedira slips the ball into the path of Reus, but the ball bobbles before he lets fly as the shot sails miles wide. Lovely one-touch stuff from Germany.
    • 11' Miroslav Klose only played six matches in Euro 2012 qualifying, but scored the first goal of the game five times. Impressive stuff.
    • 10' Khedira tries to pick out Klose, but just overhits the cross and that will be a goalkick to the Greeks. Sifakis knocks it long.
    • 9' Greece still looking a bit groggy, but at least they have not conceded. Germans pressing as high up the park as they can. Obviously been told to knock the life out of Greece.
    • 8' Makos drills in an effort from distance, but no real danger for Neuer as he dived low to his left in making a comfortable save.
    • 7' The last eight games involving Germany at Euro finals have all been won by a single goal margin - six wins, and two defeats.
    • 6' Germany have won their last 14 competitive games – an all-time record in their history. Khedira fires another effort over the bar. Germany continue to seek this opening goal.
    • 5' Sifakis back on his feet slightly dazed. As are his side. Germany injecting great pace into their movement going forward.
    • 4' Schürrle has the ball in the net after Sifakis spilled Khedira's shot, but the referee decides that is offside. A let-off for Greece, who are wobbling here early on.
    • 3' Reus almost picks out Klose in the middle. Fine move at pace. Meanwhile, Samaras has caught Khedira with a late challenge. He is needing a spot of treatment.
    • 2' An offside flag goes up against Klose, who is winning his 120th cap this evening. All to play for. Germany would dearly love an early goal.
    • 1' The countdown is underway and Greece get the action off and running here. Will Loew look like a genius or a chump when this evening is out? Three huge changes for him.
    • 19.40 Teams in the tunnel: Germany in traditional white, Greece in traditional blue. Khedira and Boateng don't bother with their national anthem. Klose slightly singing, but Lahm is giving it what for. Angela Merkel in the stands. Greece's favourite leader.
    • 19.35 On the three occasions that either Germany (2) or Greece (1) have reached the quarter-final stage of a Euro Finals (this round was introduced in 1996), they have gone on to reach the final. Germany have progressed to the semi-finals on five of the last six occasions that they have contested a quarter-final match at a major international tournament.
    • 19.30 Our blogger Jim White is expecting nothing less than a resounding German victory this evening. Read his latest offering here... Jim White: You can bank on a Germany victory
    • 19.25 Portugal completed a 1-0 win over Czech Republic in Warsaw. Here is how they managed the victory with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the winning goal in the second period. Ronaldo heads Portugal into last four
    • 19.20 Greece have met Germany eight times before this meeting, but are yet to win - drawn three, lost five. Their last meeting came back in March 2001, when Germany defeated the Greeks 4-2 in a World Cup qualifier. Greece’s only previous match against (West) Germany at a Euro Finals was back in 1980, when they drew 0-0 in the group stages.
    • 19.15 Match odds for this evening if you are fancing a punt: Germany 3/1, Greece 10/1, Draw 9/2.
    • 19.10 Fernando Santos (Greece coach): "I'd like to take the opportunity to say that for us the inspiration is the 2004 saga. Although they were written off before the tournament, they managed to reach the final and win the cup. We would like to use this squad as a source of inspiration and try to do the same, or at least come as close as we can. Let us not forget, this is a knock-out game. Anything can happen in 90 minutes."
    • 19.05 Joachim Loew (Germany coach): "It will be very important to use the few chances we will get with a killer instinct. We will crash into a granite block with their defence but I am sure we will get our chances if we work hard. It will be a tight game because the Greeks are not easy to break apart. They have their own style of play. It is in their blood, a tight defence and strong counter-attacks. We keep writing them off but they are always there. They are... survival artists."
    • 19.00 Captain Giorgos Karagounis is a big loss for Greece as he is suspended and is replaced by Grigoris Makos in midfield. Left-back Jose Holebas is also suspended after picking up two bookings in the group stage. Goalkeeper Kostas Chalkias is still struggling with a hamstring injury and defender Avraam Papadopoulos misses the rest of the tournament with a knee injury picked up on the opening day.
    • 18.55 Germany defender Jerome Boateng returns from suspension and comes in for Lars Bender at right-back, even if his replacement scored in his country's 2-1 win over Denmark in the final group game. Bastian Schweinsteiger has been suffering some pain in his ankle but Germany have a full squad to choose from. Andre Schuerrle, Marco Reus and Miroslav Klose come in for Lukas Podolski, Thomas Mueller and Mario Gomez for Germany.
    • 18.50 Teams: Germany: Neuer; Boateng, Hummels, Badstuber, Lahm; Khedira, Schweinsteiger; Reus, Ozil, Schurrle; Klose////Greece: Sifakis; Torosidis, Sokratis, Papadopoulos, Tzavellas; Makos, Maniatis, Katsouranis, Ninis; Salpingidis, Samaras.
    • 18.45 Good evening and welcome to LIVE coverage of Germany against Greece in the last eight of Euro 2012. Germany the only team at this tournament with a one hundred per cent record after winning all three Group B games at the tournament. Greece got here via a 1-0 win over Russia in Group A that saw them finish runners-up. A 7.45pm start for this one in Gdansk.

  4. @anthony What are you talking about? Germany no flair? If i am not mistaken, we already played Portugal. If I am not mistaken 2 of our 4 goals yesterday came from crosses from the flanks. typical paranoid desperate english comment. Bring it on if you can win against Italy. We'll show you our flair again. Prepare your excuses in advance

  5. A performance from germany which contained passages of play and combinations literally wreathed in beauty. How many other coaches would have had the courage to start with 3 different attackers in a winning team/ What a wonderful way to play and vindicate his decision. They need to play like this in every game from now on to win the Euors with style. A joy to watch and behold.

  8. @Paul. It WAS an annihilation at the World Cup & it will be again if England grind out another boring fluke result against Italy. Germany play a quick fuild modern passing game with the forwards and midfield all interchangeable all technically gifted and all capable of scoring. England defend for their lives and hoof it and hope. If you want to talk about disallowed goals lets mention Ukraine.

  9. SUPERMAN We saw yesterday the European Champs. in action , they where devastating , could have beeh 7 or 8 - 2....................if England , by any chance get through , the quater final then they will face GERMANY and they will be for a drubbing.....UNLESS THEY DEFEND FOR 95 MINUTES AND THEN HOPE FOR THE INFAMOUS PENALTIES. England , just like the Very Lucky Greeks ,are in that same mould ..... defend stubbornly , hiy them on the lucky brak and then defend , kick , foul , barge , and destroy the wonderful game of soccer.................then call themselves WORTHY WINNERS...............OF WHAT A DISGACE....................GIVE US A BREAK........ start from scratch again

  16. Germany play is like a German made car precises clean strong and direct. But they lack the skill flair that Portugaul and Spain have and if England progress then dont right them off there is a alot to be said for English determination and team sprite not to mention a healthy measure of luck. I think Germany are strong contenders but not by any means a slam dunk.

From Antony, on Sat 23 Jun 3:23
  17. Maybe the final will be Portugal v Germany. Portugal could beat Spain with Ronaldo used to Barcelona keeping the ball like Spain, and hit them on counter attack like Croatia.

  18. Im so glad to see Reus playing against Greece. he combined well with Ozil. he was a bit more dangerous than Schrello. it was a shock they started from the start. happy for Klose to score and that settled fans.I think this game would have suited Gomez.Im sure he would have scored in the 1st half. I think Lars Bender should play instead of Boatang.I think he did ok against Denmark.

  19. Another team gone through with attack and not defending. Finaly we saw the real Germany.Played lovely football to watch compare to other nations. Though Greece did do well to score 2 goals. This german team are not phyically strong, and think would struggle wth physical players.
