    • - Yup Bordeaux have won, so Toon are through. Their match in France on December 6 will decide the group winner.
    • 90+3 There's the final whistle - Toon are provisionally through as Bordeaux lead in Brugges, but that match has not yet finished.
    • 90+2 Brigido on the left, loads of space to pick out FIDELIS AT THE FAR POST UNMARKED but he volleys into the ground and wide!!
    • 90+1 Brugges have pulled one back at home to Bordeaux, 2-1 there as three minutes added time are signalled at St James'.
    • 90' Brigido goes on a run inside from the left but he can't get the shot away. Now Sami pings in a long-range effort but that's well wide.
    • 89' Mazy run from Santon but his left-back position is exposed as Dias brings it clear...
    • 88' Ba is penalised for backing into his marker. Toon want this to end sharpish.
    • 86' Good challenge by Santon after Dias slid a team-mate through. Toon fail to fully clear though and Abeid gives away a free-kick.
    • 85' All Toon need is a draw anyway as Bordeaux are still 2-0 up at Brugges. First and second will come down to the match in France in December, provided there are no more goals here.
    • 84' Free-kick to Newcastle as Sami fouls Bigirmana but it's lofted into the arms of Salin. Poor.
    • 83' Amalfitano releases Simpson down the right but his attempted shot is blocked behind for a corner.
    • 82' Fidelis has had some impact - but he is offside as he smashes a finish past Krul.
    • 81' After an initial confrontation, Fidelis and Coloccini shake hands. Rich from Coloccini to get the hump - he's serving a domestic ban for chopping down Suarez after he took the mickey.
    • 80' Great skill by Coloccini to drag-back his way from two challenges, but Fidelis chops him down.
    • 79' Poor from Taylor and Krul there, the former for letting Fidelis get past him too easily, the keeper for showing too big a hole for the finish.
    • 78' GREAT GOAL MARITIMO! Fantastic driving run from the sub Fidelis, who bursts through on the left before smashing a rasping finish through the legs of Krul!
    • 76' NEWCASTLE SUB: Ameobi replaced by Abeid, a young French-Algerian forward.
    • 75' Vital intervention from Salin as a Marveaux cross flew towards the head of a flying Ba!
    • 74' Good play by Santon and Marveaux but Ba can't quite get the finish away under pressure and the visitors clear.
    • 73' Brigido on for the visitors as Simao - whose deliveries have largely been poor - makes way.
    • 72' The corner drops to FERREIRA ON THE LEFT but his half volley is batted behind by Krul! Corner.
    • 71' Corner to Maritimo, who send everyone up for it - they have to win!
    • 70' Ba now fouls Miranda, with Simpson then fouling Sami.
    • 69' Miranda fouls Bigirimana. Marveaux sends in the free-kick, with both Ameobi and Taylor attack but can't put on target.
    • 67' Ferreira with a good tackle on Ba, and the Maritimo man is hurt after Ba accidentally kicked him in the face as he went down.
    • 65' Terrible effort by Fidelis, miles wide of the far post. Almost went for a throw.
    • 64' Fine cross by Ameobi but punched clear by the keeper.
    • 63' Side netting from Dias! Great effort from the edge of the box but Krul was watching it all the way.
    • 61' Ferreira with a decent cross that Coloccini coolly takes on the chest. Rosario with another dramatic roll after clashing with Ba, again the ref walks on. Indeed he awards Toon a free-kick.
    • 60' MARITIMO SUB: Adilson comes off for Fidelis.
    • 59' Sami flies in with a header from a fine cross by Luiz but he sends it well wide. Good chance!
    • 58' Superb play by Amalfitano to play it out of trouble in his own box after his defence were taking wild hacks at it.
    • 57' Decent cross in from Santon that Ba attacks but a defender heads clear under pressure.
    • 56' Marveaux takes the corner but the visitors clear. Sami then fouls Simpson and Toon have a free-kick.
    • 55' Amoebi on the run inside from the left and he wins a corner off Roberge.
    • 54' Luiz's corner is cleared by Toon and Rosario fouls Marveaux.
    • 53' Dias with an effort from range that Krul tips over. Decent shot, solid stop.
    • 52' Ameobi with an ambitious lob from range but Salin keeps it out after a swift bactrack.
    • 51' NEWCASTLE SUB: Amalfitano replaces Cisse, not sure if that's tactical or an injury.
    • 50' Santon fouls Dias. All getting a bit messy again.
    • 48' Maritimo with a bit of possession now but it's wasted as Miranda smacks one well over.
    • 47' Bordeaux are 2-0 up at Brugges, by the way. Good news for Newcastle as, even if they draw tonight, they go through if it stays like that.
    • 46' The second half is underway!
    • - Ben Arfa has a hamstring pull, it has been confirmed. Major doubt for the weekend then.
    • 45+1 Cisse pulls out just in time as the keeper reaches a long ball first. Could have been messy. Half-time, Toon 1-0 up through Marveaux's first goal for the club.
    • 45' Just the one minute added on, despite a few injuries.
    • 44' Strong run by Ameobi but he doesn't win a free-kick after seemingly being checked by Luiz.
    • 43' Santon now fouls Dias. You just get the feeling both sides are willing half-time.
    • 42' Scrappy again as both sides concede free-kicks in quick succession. Bigirimana's latest foul means Santon can shoot, but he sends a poor effort off target,
    • 40' NEWCASTLE SUB: Ba finally replaces Ben Arfa after getting his kit on.
    • 39' Ben Arfa's night is over. How serious it is I don't know, but there's no point in risking another midfield injury. Ba to replace him in good time, Ameobi to move into midfield one assumes.
    • 38' Simpson and Ben Arfa have picked up knocks. Both are getting treatment. Ben Arfa's looks like a thigh strain, worryingly.
    • 37' Cisse is offside as he rolls the ball into an empty net after Bigirimana's fine low drive is batted out by Salin. Replay shows he was half a yard off.
    • 36' Ben Arfa sends the corner a bit too deep, although Coloccini is there to nod it back into play. He was leaning back though and Maritimo can clear.
    • 35' Santon with a driving run down the left, winning a corner. Good work from him, Ben Arfa to take...
    • 34' Maybe I'm being harsh here - Maritimo are a touch out of their depth at this level, and Newcastle will be looking to prioritise their league form, which has been iffy to say the least. A result of any kind is all that is required tonight.
    • 33' Anita shepherds it out for a goal kick as this lifeless half drags on.
    • 32' Bigirimana intercepts well to launch a counter attack, but it breaks down at Anita. Bigirimana looking solid as a defensive midfield anchor.
    • 30' Diogo is fortunate to escape a booking for a foul on Anita, who takes the free-kick short as Toon finally decide to look for possession.
    • 29' A free-kick to Maritimo deep is wasted once more by Simao, who overhits a looping ball well beyond his team-mates and into Krul's arms.
    • 27' Ameobi takes on Miranda, beating him but not Rosario, who clears the Geordie striker's low cross.
    • 26' Ameobi holds the ball up nicely for Simpson, but his cross is too close to Salin.
    • 25' Anita with a foul on Simao but the free-kick comes to nothing.
    • 24' Toon won't even need to win this match if Brugge lose at home to Bordeaux - and Les Girondins are doing Toon a favour, they are 1-0 up too.
    • 23' That is Marveaux's first goal for Toon - he missed most of his first season at the club with a knee injury.
    • 22' GOAL NEWCASTLE! Fantastic solo run and finish by Marveaux, racing in from the right, beating Ferreira for pace and slipping a low finish between the legs of Salin. Ben Arfa with the assist, but it was all the former Rennes winger's work.
    • 21' Ben Arfa threatens to liven things up with one of his mazy runs inside from the right, but he overruns it a touch and Rosario gets his body in the way to ease it out for a goal kick.
    • 20' Roberge trips Cisse. This is a fairly tepid opening.
    • 18' Good interception by Coloccini after a Maritimo break. Toon will be happy to have him back.
    • 17' Maritimo ride that spell of pressure on the Toon left. Still fairly scrappy.
    • 16' Newcastle win a throw on the left wing, getting men forward with Santon to take.
    • 15' Simpson with a strong challenge on Rosario, but he got the ball and Rosario's howls of pain are somewhat discredited when he looks up, sees the ref has moved on, and bounces back to his feet.
    • 14' That period of possession doesn't amount to much and Toon have a free-kick as Dias fouls Santon.
    • 13' Good spell this for Maritimo, exploiting Toon's reluctance to get it down on the floor with some neat passing of their own.
    • 12' Roberge and Diogo exhange passes on the right but Bigirimana manages to block the cross with his chest to clear.
    • 11' Fairly aimless long ball from the back sails over Cisse's head. Anita with the overhit delivery.
    • 10' Luiz with a foul on Marveuax. Very scrappy now - as have been many of Toon's recent matches.
    • 9' Fairly dry patch for both sides now as the keepers get unchallenged touches at either end.
    • 8' Ferreira has a dig from range but easy enough for Krul.
    • 7' Third time Cisse is caught offside in these opening exchanges, that was close though.
    • 6' Cisse on the run now but again he's offside.
    • 5' Now a corner for Maritimo, which Dias swings in, Cisse makes a hash of the clearance but Toon get it away for a throw.
    • 4' Ben Arfa swings in the corner but Maritimo clear. Now Marveaux releases Cisse but the flag is up and he fails to flick it past Salin.
    • 3' Santon on the left cuts inside Roberge and unleashes a surprise shot that swerves in front of the keeper but he bats it out and hacked away by the covering defender!
    • 2' Cisse skins Roberge on the left but overhits his cross. Ameobi keeps it in but can't get a second ball in.
    • 1' The first half is underway!
    • 20:03 The teams are out - remember, a Toon win sees them through whatever happens.

    • 20:01 A win would put Toon into the knockout stages. Anything but victory sees Maritimo go out. Full Group D standings
    • 20:00 Newcastle are unbeaten in 24 home games in this competition, their last loss coming to Monaco in 1997. Marítimo, meanwhile, have lost both of Group D away games without scoring.
    • 19:55 Pedro Martins (Maritimo): “We recognise it will be difficult, given Newcastle have a much higher budget than ours, but we know with a win it still be possible to progress. We believe we can get a big result. We have been looking forward to this match. We are incredibly motivated to do well and we are able to have a good night. I believe we can score. I am very confident about that.”
    • 19:50 Alan Pardew (Newcastle): "We are all concerned. It's not like it's just heaped on myself and 'Get on with it'. The managing director and the owner are very conscious of where we are and we are trying to make sure that we look at the period and events leading up to the next window, and we will react from there."
    • 19:45 The Portuguese side are without forward Heldon Ramos and midfielder Olberdam, both of whom are injured. They played a second-string side in their Portuguese Cup match at the weekend, so most of their first XI returns, as defender Valentin Roberge, midfielders Rafael Miranda and Joao Luiz, and striker Sami all start.
    • 19:40 Toon skipper Fabricio Coloccini and striker Papiss Cisse return, the former serving a domestic ban, the latter after Senegal enforced the FIFA 5-day rule after he skipped international duty. Yohan Cabaye is out until January after having an operation, Cheick Tiote is banned, while Shola Ameobi and Jonas are not risked after recovering from injury. Sammy Ameobi, Sylvain Marveaux and Gael Bigirimana get rare starts.
