    • - Don't forget you can watch highlights of this match, along with every Premier League game, from 00:01 on Monday morning (UK only).
    • 90+4 There you have it. A poor game, with a nice finish. Everton win their first game of the season.
    • 90+3 Cahill, predictably, takes it short. Baines has it now as he skins Carr and bangs in a ferocious cross AND CAHILL! WHAT A HEADER! Finally something happens that is good, crashing in off the bar.
    • 90+2 Arteta holds it up on the left and wins a free-kick off Ferguson, just outside the box.
    • 90+1 A high ball bounces awkwardly but Howard reads it and claims under his bar.
    • 90' Three minutes added time signalled...
    • 89' Howard has to fly across to punch a high centre clear.
    • 88' Great dribbling by Hleb but his cut back is knocked away by Heitinga.
    • 87' Throw to Everton on the right, Neville inside to Cahill who is convinced it came off Ridegwell for a corner and he has a point.
    • 86' EVERTON SUB: Bilyaletdinov on for Coleman.
    • 84' Oh my. After a good spell of possession the ball broke to Derbyshire, clear on the left with men attacking the six-yard box, but he blasted the finish miles over and wide.
    • 83' Aimed for Ridgewell and Johnson but cleared. Birmimgham still have it though...
    • 82' Zigic wins a corner off Distin on the right.
    • 81' Birmimgham have only had two attempts on goal this half.
    • 80' BIRMINGHAM SUB: Derbyshire on for Jerome. Hmmm. I'd have lost Hleb to be honest.
    • 80' EVERTON SUB: Yakubu off for Heitinga. Possibly the most negative thing Moyes could have done, short of bringing a second keeper on.
    • 79' Johnson picked up a knock during that corner and is led off for some treatment.
    • 78' Zigic is obviously the target but it comes off his head to Dann, his effort is blocked and eventually someone - Johnson I think - handles and Everton have a free-kick.
    • 77' Carr bombs forward to win a corner. Great legs from the old man.
    • 76' Poor control from Fellaini and Birmingham have a free kick in their half.
    • 74' Phew. A chance. Cahill with a semi-elbow into the chest of Dann. He goes down.
    • 73' Jagielka covers as Jerome chases into the left channel. Throw. Now crossed in by Hleb on the left, great knock down from Zigic AND BOWYER WITH THE BICYCLE KICK BUT OVER!
    • 72' Zigic gets on to one of those long balls but commits a foul in doing so.
    • 71' Coleman gets in on the right and, surrounded by Blues defenders, manages to poke a low shot in that is deflected but well held by the keeper Foster.
    • 70' BIRMINGHAM SUB: Zigic is on for Fahey. At least someone may reach those long balls now.
    • 69' Neville gives away a free-kick quite far upfield. Dann lumps it long and out for a goal kick. He aimed it for Ridgewell on the left wing. Agricultural.
    • 68' Arteta puts it high far post but it lands on Osman and not Fellaini's head, spooning up in the air and flying away.
    • 67' Super wideplay by Coleman, who gets past Bowyer and then wins a corner off Ridegwell with little support.
    • 66' Ferguson - who has not got on the ball with nearly enough regularity - starts a passing move, one of Birmingham's first, but it's ruined by the same man, who floats an aimless ball into an empty box.
    • 65' Promising for Blues as Larsson slides it in for Jerome but Jagielka does well to slide in and clear on the edge of the box.
    • 64' Derbyshire and Zigic are warming up. Please Mr McLeish, bring someone good on!
    • 63' Howard flails across and tips the ball away for a corner on the other side. Birmingham's best spell so far. Larsson puts it in again, half cleared but only to Fahey who drills a low shot in that is cleared.
    • 62' Larsson swings it in but Fellaini heads it away for a corner.
    • 62' Arteta with a foul on Hleb, who is looking very thin and has not got into this match at all. Free-kick Blues on the right... Larsson over it...
    • 61' Rubbish. The counter was on for Blues but Bowyer just hoofed an awful long ball straight to Howard.
    • 60' Osman shows the first bit of nice skill today with a clever cut back and pass wide to Coleman.
    • 59' An aimless long pass through the middle is claimed low by Howard.
    • 58' Cleared by Birmingham. Despite the goal, this game has not taken on any added quality.
    • 57' Corner to Everton after Arteta's shot is deflected wide.
    • 56' Carr is having a fit after he claims he is brought down in the Everton box. Nonsense. Baines didn't touch him and if he did it was outside the area. Another dive to add to Baines's, 1-1 on that front.
    • 54' Yup, the replay confirms that Osman's low cross - which Foster had covered - was poked into the bottom left by Johnson. Shocker for the defender.
    • 53' GOAL EVERTON! Cahill is claiming it but that looked like a Johnson-Foster OG concoction to me...
    • 52' Bowyer appears from nowhere to get into the box but Distin slides in. A goal kick is signalled, looked like a corner to me.
    • 51' Promising stuff from Everton, who keep it on the ground as Baines puts in a dangerous low cross that Johnson hooks behind for a corner. Baines's corner is easy for Foster.
    • 50' Coleman on the right drills a low centre to Yakubu, it's just behind him so he lays it off for OSMAN but his shot is blocked and Birmingham clear.
    • 49' Howard claims a typically aimless long ball through the middle.
    • 48' The Swede sends it too close to Howard, who punches away. Now Distin is accused of a handball outside the box from a Johnson header on the right but he had his arms by his side.
    • 47' An early corner for Birmingham on the left, which Larsson is over to take...
    • 46' The second half is underway.
    • - Both sides mustered six efforts apiece, four off target and two on. I'd say only one apiece were worth noting.
    • - There were boos from both sets of fans at the break, and who can blame them after that tripe?
    • 45+1 Promising counter for Everton as Cahill finds Osman on the left, he plays it inside back to Cahill but the return ball is horrible and out for a goal kick. Half-time, goalless and it has not been the best half of football.
    • 45' Yakubu holds the ball up on the right, winning a throw off Gardner. Osman has it now but sends his cross-shot yards high and wide.
    • 44' A bit of head tennis as both sides fail to keep the ball on the ground for a minute or so. This has not been the greatest advertisement for the Premier League so far.
    • 43' Johnson and Yakubu clash, with the Nigerian penalised to a little tread on the Englishman's ankle.
    • 42' Birmingham have a goal kick after Baines's cross fails to stay in play. Foster hits it long.
    • 40' Carr on the attack now, decent dipping centre from the Irishman but Jerome's header is well over.
    • 39' Distin and Jerome have a little set-to but the Everton defender clears.
    • 38' Everton bombarding Birmingham's area now but obviously they are well organised and tough to get behind.
    • 37' Everton play it around nicely until Osman fouls Carr.
    • 36' Jerome almost nicks the ball away from Distin, who stays calm and plays it wide to Jags. Baines now on the left but Johnson heads clear.
    • 35' Jerome again caught offside. Birmingham definitely playing on the counter now.
    • 33' Both sides have had three shots off target so far, with Everton having just the one on target, discounting Arteta's header which was an attempted assist.
    • 32' Osman fires well over from the edge of the box after good interplay with Yakubu. Mostly half chances so far, aside from those two misses.
    • 31' Baines with what can only be described as a dive over Larsson's outstretched leg as he tried to wriggle into the Blues box. But he's English, so of course doesn't dive.
    • 30' Ridgewell gets forward down the left but the cross is too short for Jerome. Bowyer snuffs out a counter with a sliding challenge.
    • 29' Neville on the right with a hanging cross but Cahill can't get clean contact with the header and Blues clear.
    • 28' Everton are really having a go now as they peg Birmingham back in their own half...
    • 27' Sustained pressure from the corner as Arteta tries to shoot but blocked. Everton work it wide right and a bit back towards Neville.
    • 26' HOW DID EVERTON NOT SCORE? Ridgewell with a sliding intervention as Yakubu slid it past Foster after a shocking mistake from Johnson, falling on his backside as he tried a simple clearance. Carr made the initial mistake to play Johnson into trouble, but that was keystone cops defending from the former Cardiff man.
    • 25' Jerome races on to a dreadful defensive header from Distin, he's through but he pokes it wide with only Howard to beat!
    • 24' Great ball in from Baines on the left that Cahill attacks but, from the edge of the box and under pressure from Dann, the header is well wide.
    • 22' Long ball from Everton and Yakubu holds Johnson off far too easily but his low drive is poor, well wide of the far post as Osman stretched to reach it.
    • 21' Howard hoofs it upfield. He's had little to do so far.
    • 20' Baines finds Yakubu on the left wing, he puts in a teasing far-post cross that Arteta attacks but Foster dives on to it before Cahill can pounce! Best chance so far.
    • 19' Larsson gives chase on the right and tries to pump one in but it spins away for a goal kick.
    • 18' Baines goes down in the box after a sustained spell of Everton pressure that saw Yakubu hold it up and slide him through. Fair challenge by Carr though.
    • 17' After a nervous start Everton are finding their groove now, dominating possession.
    • 16' Ridgewell is up, the ref talks to both of them and Arteta swings in a free-kick that is cleared with ease. Baines lofts it back in but Foster claims easily.
    • 15' Well the replays show an elbow from Fellaini, not once, but twice as he tried to shrug Ridgewell off as he marked him on a free-kick on the right.
    • 14' A bit of a delay with Ridgewell down after colliding with Fellaini...
    • 13' Yakubu holds it up nicely for Baines, who wins a corner off Larsson with Carr dragged out by the Nigerian.
    • 12' Jerome goes down deep in the Everton half but he was offside.
    • 11' Carr slides in on Baines and Everton have a corner on the left.
    • 10' Everton have largely contained Birmingham but this is the first time they've got into their half for a while. Coleman on the right knocks it back to Neville but his cross is too long.
    • 9' Good defending by Baines to dispossess Larsson and win the throw.
    • 8' Another poor touch from Larsson to play it out after Carr's throw.
    • 7' Larsson gets in down the right but the cross spins out, he thinks via a deflection off Baines but the officials signal a goal kick.
    • 6' Decent delivery but Jagielka gets his head on it and all the way back to Birmingham's half.
    • 5' Birmingham have a free-kick some way out, which Larsson will swing in.
    • 4' Poor touch from Fellaini, but Jerome can't exploit the error and Neville clears.
    • 3' Jerome almost gets on to an awkwardly bouncing long ball from Gardner but Howard claims.
    • 2' Birmingham with a direct attack but the ball from Gardner flies out for a goal kick.
    • 1' Coleman surges down the right but overplays the ball and sliding in cannot keep the cross in play.
    • 1' The first half is underway in the Midlands.
