    • - Don't forget you can watch highlights of this game from 00:01 tonight.
    • 90+5' There's the final whistle! Villa have destroyed Sunderland and move five points clear of the relegation zone!
    • 90+4' Cuellar flicks the corner on to nobody in particular but it does at least kill a few seconds for Sunderland.
    • 90+3' McClean's cross from the left takes a touch and deflects behind for a corner.
    • 90+1' Sunderland continue to look longingly towards the tunnel. Though they're likely to get absolutely destroyed by Di Canio once they return to the dressing room.
    • 90' Just what Sunderland need - four minutes of stoppage time!
    • 89' And that moves Villa ahead of Newcastle in the Premier League table!
    • 88' GOAL!! It's six! Impudent finish from Agbonlahor, rounding Mignolet and finishing into the empty net after Vaughan plays him through with an atrocious backpass.
    • 86' On comes David Vaughan for Sunderland. 'Right son, win us the game!'
    • 84' Bent tees up Weimann who strikes from the edge of the box - held at the second attempt by Mignolet.
    • 83' Bennett swirls in a cross from the left and Mignolet has to punch that clear.
    • 82' Space all over the place for Villa, though they have - perhaps understandably - lost a bit of their attacking intensity.
    • 81 Villa are slicing through Sunderland at will here - the visitors just need to keep the scoreline as it is and get out of here.
    • 80' Weimann through ball to Joe Bennett down the left... beyond him into the gloves of Mignolet.
    • 79' Aston Villa sub: Darren Bent replaces Gabriel Agbonlahor.
    • 77' Villa need just six more to leapfrog Sunderland in the table.
    • 76' This result will move Villa level on goal difference with Newcastle, who suddenly look in big trouble. Though not as big as Wigan, who will now be five points from safety.
    • 75' Yellow card Bardsley for a rash tackle from behind on Benteke.
    • 74' So that is, indeed, Villa's first Premier League hat-trick since Agbonlahor against Man City in August 2008.
    • 73' Sunderland gave the ball away inside their own final third, and that was just suicidal. Mignolet gambled on a finish to the far post from the left hand side, but Benteke stuck in in the opposite corner.
    • 72' GOAL! Hat-trick Benteke, Villa are out of sight! He slots in at the near post, wrongfooting Mignolet and Sunderland just need this game to be over!
    • 72' And that will be a three-match ban for Sessegnon which effectively ends his season. Oh dear...
    • 71' Well, that's the end of that - Sessegnon did go into the challenge with his foot up, but does seem a bit harsh on hi,m. It was hardly a leg-breaker.
    • 70' Red card! It's all going wrong for Sunderland as Stephane Sessegnon gets his marching orders for a challenge on Sylla.
    • 68' Correction to that last Infostrada fact - though one that actually makes it more interesting - that Carew hat-trick came in the FA Cup, so: The last player to score a hat-trick for Aston Villa in a PL match was Gabriel Agbonlahor in the 4-2 home win over Manchester City in Aug 2008.
    • 67' Twice Weimann sees his shot cleared off the line by desperate Sunderland defending! Now that really would have killed the game off - Bardsley and Cuellar with the clearances.
    • 66' Yellow card for Rose - a bit unlucky, as he appeared to take the ball with his challenge on Weimann.
    • 65' Cuellar gives the ball away to Delph who drives to the edge of the Sunderland box before O'Shea saves the day for Sunderland. They are looking pretty ragged here.
    • 64' The last player to score a hat-trick for Aston Villa in a PL match was John Carew in the 4-2 win at Reading in March 2010. Those last two nuggets from Infostrada.
    • 63' Aston Villa last scored four PL goals in a match at Villa Park in February 2011, in the 4-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.
    • 62' Sunderland change: James McClean on for Seb Larsson. The Holte End roars: "We shall not be moved!" They are absolutely loving this.
    • 61' That's Benteke's 17th Premier League goal of the season - where would they be without him?
    • 60' Benteke rose high above Cuellar - there was no-one on the far post for Sunderland, by design, and that's exactly where the ball went.
    • 59' GOAL!! Now Villa are surely safe! Two for Benteke as he rises to plant a towering back post header past Mignolet. Great leap, great header.
    • 58' A close shave for Villa! Johnson delivers an inswinging ball into the box, Vlaar ducks out of his header and N'Diaye is a stud's length away from prodding that in at the near post.
    • 57' What a massive win this would be for Villa - they'll move on to 37 points, level with Sunderland and five clear of Wigan in 18th place.
    • 56' Nothing Mignolet could have done about that - it was a superb initial save from the deflected shot, but the ball landed straight to Benteke, who had stayed onside and could hardly miss.
    • 55' GOAL! Benteke makes it three for Villa! Agbonlahor's shot from the edge of the box is deflected, Mignolet gets a hand to it and Benteke follows up with a stooping header into the bottom corner!
    • 53' ...but they don't. Larsson plays the free-kick short to Gardner, who rather wastefully chips it out for a goal kick. Not the best set-piece you'll see.
    • 52' Villa feel they should have a free-kick when Bennett is brought down but play continues... there's much booing as Sunderland build and then Rose wins a free-kick, throwing himself to the ground after very slight contact from Sylla. Villa will go mental if Sunderland score from here.
    • 50' The delivery from Westwood is not great, and Sunderland race clear.
    • 49' Lowton weaves his way past Larsson and N'Diaye brings him down illegally, before exchanging pleasantries with the Villa man.
    • 48' Larsson plays a quick pass down the left for Rose to chase, but the full-back cannot catch up with the pace of the ball.
    • 47' Villa make the first move forwards as Delph makes progress down the right and Larsson puts the ball out for a throw.
    • 46' Second half under way! No personnel changes from either manager - let's see how these teams react to their half-time pep talk.
    • 45' That's half-time at Villa Park and the home side lead! We feared a dry encounter but instead we have a match full of excitement and incident! Back in a few minutes.
    • 45+3' A high ball plops into the Sunderland box but referee Probert has seen a foul. Free-kick Sunderland.
    • 45+2' Villa win a free-kick on the left and both centre-backs trot up into the Sunderland box...
    • 45+1' Deep free-kick delivered into the box by Johnson... too deep, and the ball goes out for a goal kick.
    • 45' Three minutes of stoppage time to be played.
    • 44' The ball is in the net from Gardner, but the goal is immediately chalked off - Graham clattered into Guzan as Larsson's ball came into the box and that's a foul on the goalkeeper.
    • 44' Johnson goes for goal from long range... high over the bar from the winger.
    • 43' Sylla digs out a cross from the Villa right... it swirls into Mignolet's arms.
    • 42' Stat from Infostrada: That was Weimann's ninth PL goal. Only one Austrian, Paul Scharner (21) has scored more in the division.
    • 41' Di Canio looks fairly impassive despite seeing his side concede two pretty soft goals.
    • 40' Guzan springs to his left to field a shot that was going wide anyway - he does at least manage to keep the ball in play.
    • 39' That was superb play from Lowton to set up that goal - not much of a challenge on him from Sunderland and Di Canio will be raging about that.
    • 38' GOAL!! Amazing! Villa are back in front through Andreas Weimann! Lowton intercepts a long pass in his own box, bursts forward and finds Weimann on the right side of the box - and the Austrian finishes perfectly into the far corner!
    • 36' Andreas Weimann has scored some fine goals for Villa, but this time he scuffs a poor left-foot shot from the edge of the box that rolls weakly through to Mignolet.
    • 35' Big penalty appeal from Villa! Agbonlahor smashes the ball into Gardner and it rocochets onto the Sunderland man's arms. No way that was deliberate, and Lee Probert is right to say no penalty.
    • 35' Such frustration for Paul Lambert, who celebrated Vlaar's goal with his usual enthusiasm. Almost by the time he got back to his technical area Sunderland were level.
    • 34' From the sublime to the, er, less sublime - Cuellar slides through the back of Benteke and that's the game's first booking.
    • 33' GOAL! Sunderland level in little over 60 seconds! Danny Rose finishes a sweet move, sweeping inside from the left and exchanging passes with Graham before finding the bottom-right corner. Lovely goal.
    • 32' The replay doesn't look too pretty for Simon Mignolet. Although the ball came past a couple of bodies, there was no deflection and the keeper just got down to it late. Has to go down as an error.
    • 31' GOAL! Ron Vlaar with his first Aston Villa goal! A low, long-range piledriver that beats Mignolet and finishes in the left corner.
    • 30' Larsson curls it into the box... over everyone and bounces into the gloves of Guzan. Easy for the keeper.
    • 29' This game perhaps starting to liven up, with both teams starting to penetrate a little. Now Sunderland have a free-kick 40-plus yards out with Seb Larsson looking very much like he fancies a shot.
    • 27' Johnson is by the right corner flag, jinks back inside his man and whips a cross in... it goes in front of Graham, who claimed he was being held back by his marker. Would have been a harsh penalty award.
    • 26' That was easily the best move of the match - glorious little flicked through ball from Beneteke who has enjoyed an excellent season.
    • 25' So close Agbonlahor! He exchanges passes with Benteke - the return pass an absolute beauty - but he guides his shot just wide of the left-hand post!
    • 24' It's surprising to learn that Villa have only won 55 per cent possession... they seem to have had more than that.
    • 22' Sunderland have failed to score in the first half of their last two PL matches against Aston Villa, since Connor Wickham’s 38th-minute goal in the 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light in October 2011.
    • 21' Villa build down the right with Agbonlahor who lifts the ball into the box... caught by Mignolet.
    • 20' And Paolo Di Canio joins in the applause. Nice touch. Maybe he's not a monster?
    • 19' As the 19th minute comes to an end, Villa Park rises to applaud Stiliyan Petrov.
    • 18' Danny Rose collides with Lowton. Looks painful, but it's the Villa man who appears to have come off worse.
    • 17' Adam Johnson bends the ball into the Villa box and out for a goal kick...
    • 15' Both sides have suffered from a lack of cutting edge this season and that much has been apparent from the opening exchanges.
    • 14' Villa continue to enjoy plenty of the ball and are on top in this spell. But they have not yet worked Mignolet.
    • 13' Played deep into the box where Benteke is lurking at the back post... over the Belgian's head and out for a throw.
    • 11' Sylla wins the ball and shifts it quickly down the right for Agbonlahor who is fouled by O'Shea - this is a semi-decent opportunity for Villa from the free-kick.
    • 10' O'Shea wins the ball and immediately gives it away - cue more Villa passing.
    • 9' Now Villa pass the ball calmly around in midfield. Long spell of possession but in the end they just work it back to Guzan.
    • 8' Sessegnon tries to pull the ball across to Larsson whose progress is halted inside the box... back to Sessegnon and again Sunderland carve out a shooting chance. But it's encouraging for Paolo Di Canio.
    • 7' The ball pinballs around the Villa box but Graham cannot get his shot away - the ball eventually ricochets off a defender and into Guzan's arms. No passback.
    • 6' Di Canio is out in his technical area getting lightly soaked by the rain. He'll be sodden by full-time unless he drags a coat out from somewhere.
    • 5' Thos ex-Villa players and the home fans' reaction: Craig Gardner - booed; Carlos Cuellar - applauded; Phil Bardsley - ignored.
    • 4' Sunderland look slightly hesitant clearing a corner - Baker heads back into the box and Mignolet catches. Rain falling at Villa Park.
    • 3' Delph tries to exchange passes with Benteke, but the big Belgian cannot quite get the return ball right.
    • 2' Craig Gardner is booed as he chests the ball down. Looked like he used his arm actually but ref Lee Probert waves play on.
    • 1' Game on! Villa playing from left to right as we see it - Sunderland in their red and white striped home kit.
    • 19:56 Teams out at Villa Park! It's not totally full, but there's a crackling atmosphere nonetheless - under way in a few minutes!
    • 19:55 And you know Harry Redknapp keeps going on about how his QPR players earn too much money and perform too badly to leave the club this summer? Well, the same may be true of their manager - Redknapp will be staying this summer, the Hoops say. Redknapp to remain as manager of QPR
    • 19:50 Elsewhere in the Premier League today, the PFA have apologised for the Reginald D Hunter's comedy act at last night's end-of-season awards. His liberal use of the 'N' word was not quite the tone the PFA wanted to set after the season they have had... PFA 'embarrassed' by awards dinner comedian
    • 19:45 As far as the relegation battle goes, Sunderland are five clear of Wigan with 37 points. They probably need one more win to be sure of safety. Villa, however, sit precariously in 17th, two points ahead of Wigan who they play on the final day of the season. What a game that could be.
    • 19:40 The bookies make Villa 5/4 favourites to win tonight, while Sunderland are 13/5 and the draw might not be a bad shout at 23/10.
    • 19:35 And more bad omens: Villa Park has seen fewer first half goals than any other Premier League stadium this season (14).
    • 19:30 Sunderland didn’t manage a single shot on target when they played Aston Villa at the Stadium of Light earlier this season.
    • 19:25 Paul Lambert: "A lot can be made of a new manager coming in. You tend to get that little pick-up when somebody else comes in but the way they play, I think we know everything that goes on, and it's up to us to combat that and go and try to win. I don't want to get caught up in these sort of things. Sunderland made that choice but I know how good a manager Martin O'Neill is because I worked under him for five years."
    • 19:20 Paolo Di Canio: “The mission, the priority, is to stay up. But we can’t relax – even when we get the points we need to stay up. I want to get across my mentality – win every game! If we have 40 points with six games to go, I want to finish with 58 points." Sunderland have 37 points with four games to go...
    • 19:15 A trio of ex-Villans start for Sunderland. Phil Bardsley has recovered from an ankle knock which kept him out of the win against Everton last week and replaces Jack Colback at right-back. Craig Gardner, meanwhile, has returned from a two-game suspension after picking up his 10th booking of the season at Chelsea three weeks ago. And Carlos Cuellar also plays.
    • 19:10 TEAMS: ASTON VILLA: Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar, Baker, Bennett, Westwood, Delph, Sylla, Weimann, Agbonlahor, Benteke... Subs: Given, Holman, Lichaj, Bent, Bowery, N’Zogbia, Bannan. // SUNDERLAND: Mignolet, O’Shea, Cuellar, Rose, Bardsley, N’Diaye, Larsson, Gardner, Sessegnon, Johnson, Graham... • Summary

    • 44' The ball is in the net from Gardner, but the goal is immediately chalked off - Graham clattered into Guzan as Larsson's ball came into the box and that's a foul on the goalkeeper.
