    • - Remember, you can watch highlights of this and other Premier League matches from just after midnight on Sunday night.
    • 90+4 The full-time whistle goes before Southampton can make a third and final change and it's a 2-0 win for the visitors.
    • 90+3 Southampton want to make a substitution but Reading have the ball and win a corner, which Saints clear...
    • 90+2 Lamber with a lovely pass to release Clyne, he's in acres down the right, superb cut-back for the late-arriving Do Prado who fluffs his lines and fires over an empty net. Should have been three!
    • 90+1 Cheers for the Saints players as they stroke it about Barcelona-style.
    • 90' Three minutes added time.
    • 89' Long throw from Morrison is flicked on by Hunt but no-one moves for it and it's easy for Boruc.
    • 88' SOUTHAMPTON SUB: Do Prado replaces Davis.
    • 87' Morrison with a slip as he lets the ball bounce, but he gets goal-side of Davis to shepherd it back to Federici.
    • 86' Both sides seem to be going through the motions. The sacking of McDermott seems increasingly pointless now.
    • 84' Mariappa misses a defensive header but Morrison gets it clear.
    • 83' This result would all-but condemn Reading to the drop - they will be seven points shy of safety, with Wigan having two games in hand. Ouch.
    • 82' Now Saints have 57% possession. Shows how this game has progressed.
    • 80' Saints now knocking it about confidently as they slip into their short-passing routine.
    • 78' Boruc with a bit of juggling as a high ball into the box causes problems but he is in charge of that situation.
    • 77' Is the whole of the ball over the line? The replay shows probably not. Boruc stumbled into the back of the net as he caught the ball and, realising what was happening, he just chucked it away. Looks a decent call given our technological limitations.
    • 76' LE FONDRE WITH A LOOPING HEADER AND BORUC APPEARS TO CARRY IT OVER THE LINE! The linesman was well placed and he says no goal! Need the replay...
    • 75' McAnuff with a run inside from the right, he unleases a left-foot effort that takes a deflection to fly over. But the ref awards a goal kick - that sums up Reading.
    • 74' READING SUB: Hunt on for Robson-Kanu.
    • 73' Mariappa all over the place there - Rodriguez with the ball over the top, and Lallana's 50th Saints goal.
    • 72' GOAL SOUTHAMPTON! Lallana with a cool low finish after a ball over the top catches the home defence flat-footed. Terrible line from them.
    • 71' Lambert tries a delicate through-ball but it doesn't come off this time. Hunt warming up for Reading - still no sign of the Pog!
    • 70' Robson-Kanu swings over a cross that causes Saints problems, Boruc unable to hold on initially but gathering bravely at the second attempt.
    • 69' Fantastic first touch and piece of juggling from Rodriguez but his volley lands well wide.
    • 68' Some nice one-touch passing from Saints comes to an end as Davis miscontrols. Still with the visitors though...
    • 67' Poor backpass from Gunter but Federici manages to volley clear.
    • 66' Shaw looks surprised after being adjudged to have fouled Gunter. Looked the other way round to me too.
    • 65' Fantastic cross from Rodriguez on the right but Schneiderlin misses the header! Shaw now races down the left but Gunter heads his ball clear.
    • 64' Robson-Kanu slices a cross behind for a corner. He is on the left it turns out, McLeary on the right and McAnuff playing through the middle.
    • 63' SOUTHAMPTON SUB: Ramirez is replaced by Lallana, who provides a similar attacking threat but can operate more defensively too.
    • 62' READING SUB: McLeary replaces Guthrie, a more direct attacking threat from midfield. He'll play wide with Robson-Kanu adopting a more central role.
    • 61' Le Fondre sends a half-volley high and wide after Southampton fail to clear their lines following a long throw. Half a chance if that.
    • 60' Lambert frees Rodriguez on the left, a fizzing low cross from him that the onrushing Lambert just fails to meet with a sliding finish!
    • 59' Another Reading corner which Guthrie takes from the right, Leigertwood unable to connect as Southampton clear.
    • 58' For all Reading's hard work, Southampton just look more dangerous going forward, even if that latest counter attack breaks down.
    • 57' McAnuff glides down the left wing before winning a corner off Clyne. Best he could have done in those circumstances with little support. He takes the corner himself, Boruc fumbles it but claims the loose ball ahead of Robson-Kanu.
    • 56' It's got a bit scrappy now as bitty fouls break up the play.
    • 55' Robson-Kanu gives chase to what is ultimately a lost cause but Reading are showing the right attitude, if a fundamental lack of quality.
    • 54' Rodriguez tries a mazy run in down the left but overruns it and Reading have a throw.
    • 53' Cork with a failed backheel on the right wing but he does win his side a throw.
    • 52' Davis is clean through after a fine pass by Lambert but he panics, shooting too early and into the arms of Federici! What a pass by Lambert though, defence-splitting through ball.
    • 51' Kelly with a deep cross for Robson-Kanu to lay it off to Gunter but his delivery is cleared. Saints on the move now as Cork spreads it wide right. Ramirez has no options though so looks back to Mariappa, whose long ball catches Rodriguez offside.
    • 50' Guthrie tries a long range effort but Hooiveld blocks. Now Saints come forward as Ramirez drifts into space but he loses control of the ball and Reading clear, with Le Fondre earning a throw on the left wing.
    • 49' McAnuff swings the ball deep, Morrison with the knock down but Rodriguez clears from Robson-Kanu.
    • 48' Better from Reading now as they pile the pressure on to win a corner on the left wing.
    • 47' Rodriguez with another run, cross for Lambert but his knockdown is scrambled clear.
    • 46' The second half is underway!
    • 46' READING SUB: Half-time sub as Akpan, who suffered a kick to the face, replaced by Leigertwood.
    • - Half-time stats: Reading with marginally more possession (51%) but Saints have had eight efforts on goal to the hosts' four, two on target to the Royals' one.
    • 45+2 Reading have a throw on the right but Saints clear and the whistle goes, Southampton leading 1-0.
    • 45+1 Lambert picks it up and, with everyone expecting a shot, he plays a delicate through ball that Reading manage to claim.
    • 45' Two minutes added time.
    • 44' Deary me, that should have been 2-0. Rodriguez probably should have scored with the initial effort, and Ramirez certainly should have found the net with the follow-up.
    • 43' WHAT A MISS BY RAMIREZ! He puts it past an open goal after an error from Mariappa let Rodriguez fire a shot off Federici, the Uruguayan Ramirez mis-hitting the loose ball wide!
    • 42' Jeers from the away fans as Guthrie runs the ball out of play on the left.
    • 41' Lambert penalised for fouling his marker on the Reading right, taken short though.
    • 40' Ramirez almost picks out Rodriguez again but his lofted pass is too close to Federici.
    • 39' Cool defending Shaw to let the ball run to Boruc under pressure.
    • 38' Ramirez almost skips away but Mariappa gets goal side of him.
    • 37' RODRIGUEZ HITS THE BAR! Fantastic rising drive as he let the ball roll across his body after a Ramirez pass.
    • 36' Reading with a corner and Le Fondre overhead kicks it over!
    • 35' That is Rodriguez's sixth goal of the season in the league. Reading feel he fouled Federici but he just slid on to the ball, getting that and not the man in my view. Morrison caught for pace there and Federici seemed to pull away as Rodriguez slid in on Davis's chip.
    • 34' GOAL SOUTHAMPTON! Rodriguez scores for a third match in a row as he bundles it past Federici after an unconventional one-two with Davis.
    • 33' Cork crosses to Lambert at the far post, he knocks it across goal for RAMIREZ but his header is well wide! Should have done better!
    • 32' Lambert lofts a cross in for Rodriguez but the former Burnley striker is offside.
    • 31' Poor clearance from Karacan but Rodriguez's snap-shot is blocked by Morrison.
    • 30' Crisp passing from Southampton as they work it from right to left before Hooiveld goes long, straight to the keeper. Reading pressing from the front.
    • 29' Towering flick-on by Robson-Kanu but Le Fondre can't get away down the right and Saints clear.
    • 28' The corner is cleared well by Akpan, who is caught by Hooiveld. Ow, a boot to the head as the former Everton midfielder stooped to clear.
    • 27' Lambert with a one-two with Davis, who crosses deep for Cork and Saints have a corner.
    • 26' Ramirez tries to go it alone after running from halfway but he drags his low shot weakly wide.
    • 25' Davis with a through-ball that McAnuff is back to clear. A rare move forward for the visitors given the recent pattern of play.
    • 23' Having been under the kosh for a spell Reading have burst into life. Saints are really struggling all of a sudden, just playing it route one.
    • 22' GREAT SAVE BORUC! A downward bullet header from Mariappa getting forward after the visitors half-cleared the initial corner. The Pole got down with a strong arm to claw it away from the bottom left! Gunter did very well to dig out the original cross.
    • 21' Great skill by Robson-Kanu to wriggle into the box from the right, and he goes down as Hooiveld sticks out a boot but no penalty! Reading are convinced but the ref points for a corner!
    • 20' WHAT A MISS BY LE FONDRE! An utter mess after that Reading free-kick from the right, five or six ricochets as Southampton make a comedy from their wild sliced attempts to clear, it lands to Le Fondre with just the keeper to beat but he gets in on the incompetence and slices it high and wide!
    • 19' Reading have a free-kick on the right, sending the big men up again...
    • 18' Davis gets in space down the right but his cut-back is short of Rodriguez thanks to Morrison's anticipation. I wonder how his cereal quest is getting on?
    • 17' Lambert lofts a cross in from the left after a promising spell of Saints possession, but it lands over the head of a leaping Ramirez and Kelly puts out for a throw.
    • 16' Highly-rated young left-back Shaw tries to get around Gunter but the Reading right-back - himself once a top prospect - blocks for a corner. The corner is cleared but here come Saints again as Davis frees Shaw, with Karacan this time tackling for a throw.
    • 15' Karacan panics when he had a chance to play Le Fondre through, the midfielder just lumping it forward aimlessly and straight to a Saints defender.
    • 14' Clyne gets forward, finding Cork but Kelly does well to nick the ball away.
    • 13' Ramirez with a wild shot after good interplay with Rodriguez. Saints now taking charge of possession and territory.
    • 12' Better from Southampton as they play it coolly about the back and then midfield but Shaw lumps a rather aimless ball forward.
    • 11' Schneiderlin with a good strong run down the right, Saints have three in the box but his low cross is blocked by Morrison and put out for a throw. Kelly caught out of position after McAnuff went to sleep.
    • 10' This time Boruc claims the corner well. Good in those aerial situations is the Pole. Le Fondre is then caught offside by a nice clipped ball from Guthrie. Looked on to me.
    • 9' Davis with a fine ball wide right to the overlapping Clyne but his touch lets him down and it spins away for a Reading throw. Now Reading have a corner as Le Fondre does well to buy the set piece off Clyne. Morrison trots up...
    • 8' Throw to Reading on the right wing that Gunter will take. He finds Le Fondre, who returns the ball only for Shaw to tackle.
    • 7' A brief spell of head tennis as both sides focus on clearing their lines. That will change soon.
    • 6' Great feet by Le Fondre on the left as he works with McAnuff to find a crossing opportunity, but the Reading skipper's ball is cleared by Schneiderlin.
    • 5' Rodriguez skins Gunter before being clobbered by the former Cardiff, Spurs and Nottingham Forest defender.
    • 4' Free-kick to Reading on the right which is swung in by Guthrie and in flies Morrison but his diving header flies well over. That's what he's good at, the big defender.
    • 3' Rodriguez on the run now, he spins out to the right and swings a deep cross aimed for Schneiderlin, who takes it down nicely but fouls his marker.
    • 2' Reading with a spell of possession to start this match but Southampton win it back.
    • 1' The first half is underway!

    • 12:35 FACTS: The Royals have conceded the first goal on 19 occasions this season; more than any other team. Despite scoring the first goal on 16 occasions this season (bettered only by five teams), Southampton have only held on to win seven of those games (D5 L4).
    • 12:30 FACTS: This will be only the second Premier League meeting between the two sides. Southampton, then managed by Nigel Adkins, beat Reading 1-0 in December. Under Nigel Adkins in the Premier League, Southampton won 23% (5 of 22) of their games. Under Mauricio Pochettino they have won 33% (3 of 9).
    • 12:25 HEAD-TO-HEAD: Reading have lost six successive Premier League games; one away from the worst run seen this season in the Premier League, also set by the Royals (seven games); Saints have lost just one of their last five clashes with Reading in all competitions (W2 D2). Southampton have collected just two points in their four Premier League away games under Pochettino (D2 L2).
    • 12:20 Mauricio Pochettino: "We need to focus and we need to maintain how we felt against Chelsea and Liverpool before facing them. We felt really motivated, really confident so we need to keep that mental preparation. But I do think against Reading we are going to face a really tough opponent so we have been warned that we really need to be mentally focused and confident at the same time."
    • 12:15 Southampton have Artur Boruc and Adam Lallana fit. Poland goalkeeper Boruc was forced off at half-time of last weekend's 2-1 defeat of Chelsea due to dizziness caused by a virus, but he is back and starts. Lallana missed the game due to a slight groin problem and is on the bench. Gaston Ramirez was on the bench against Chelsea but returns in place of Jason Puncheon, the only change to the starting XI.
    • 12:10 Several Reading changes from the 4-1 loss to Arsenal. Pavel Pogrebnyak, Nicky Shorey, Alex Pearce and Mikele Leigertwood are dropped, with Adam Le Fondre, Sean Morrison, Chris Gunter and Hope Akpan all in. Winger Jimmy Kebe has been ruled out (groin), while Adam Federici starts in goal ahead of Alex McCarthy after they overcame ankle and shoulder injuries respectively. Stuart Taylor is back to his role as third choice.
    • 12:05 More on the teams in a moment, but first a snippet from Nigel Adkins' programme notes: "Today it's ironic that my first home game as Manager of Reading Football Club is against my former club. Southampton, a club that will always have a place in my heart... I'd like to take this opportunity to wish Brian McDermott good luck in his future managerial career and he will always be welcomed back here after the fantastic job he has done for Reading Football Club."
    • 12:00 READING: Federici, Gunter, Kelly, Mariappa, Morrison, Karacan, Akpan, Guthrie, McAnuff, Robson-Kanu, Le Fondre... Subs: McCarthy, Harte, Pearce, Leigertwood, McCleary, Pogrebnyak, Hunt. // SOUTHAMPTON: Boruc, Clyne, Yoshida, Hooiveld, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Cork, S Davis, Ramírez, Lambert, Rodriguez... Subs: K Davis, Fonte, Fox, Ward-Prowse, Lallana, Guly, Puncheon.
