    • 90+3' The whistle goes. Barcelona are La Liga champions. Madrid's title defence ends very limply. Espanyol might feel aggrieved not to have won tonight. They were fantastic. Thanks for joining me tonight. Until next time, over and out.
    • 90+2' He strikes it high into the stands. Wakaso on for Raul Baena. He's played well tonight.
    • 90+1' Capdevila also booked in that melee. Ronaldo with the free-kick to prevent Barcelona's title party.
    • 90' Victor Sanchez slides in horrifically on Higuain high over the ball. Straight red. Horrible challenge.
    • 89' Ronaldo gives the ball away on the edge of Espanyol box. He had a great minute after his arrival, but he's looked poor since.
    • 88' Madrid slowing the pace down in midfield. Where's the energy lads? Your great rivals are just minutes from the title.
    • 87' It comes to nothing but they force a second chance. And that one comes to nothing too. Shame.
    • 86' Ronaldo takes it and blasts it at the wall. Down the other end Espanyol have a corner...
    • 85' Madrid force a free-kick on the edge of the area. Ronaldo and di Maria standing over it. Does favour the left foot of di Maria though.
    • 84' Di Maria now goes close for Madrid, but he fails to get any power in his shot from the edge of the area. This game has really opened up.
    • 83' Wakaso sends a stinging shot at Diego Lopez. Good strike, good stop.
    • 82' Simao is on for Verdu. He's still got plenty of pace in those legs. Madrid force another corner.
    • 81' After all that the corner comes to nothing. Typical.
    • 80' Lots of pushing and shoving in the Espanyol penalty area. Forlin falls over after being pushed by Ronaldo. Yellow cards for both players. Just the ten tonight - Modric also got booked a few minutes back..
    • 79' Ronaldo throws in a few stepovers to get down the left. Corner to Madrid.
    • 78' From the resulting free-kick it's chaos inside the Madrid area. Forlin flicks the ball into the danger area, Stuani is in but can't get his shot away under pressure from Essien. Was Stuani pushed though? For me, no.
    • 77' Raul Albiol brings down Verdu. Yet another yellow card.
    • 76' Essien delivers a great cross to the front post which is met by Benzema but Casilla somehow gets a hand to it. The flag was up, but the keeper wasn't to know that.
    • 75' Ronaldo looks to get away down the left but he is stopped by a fine Javi Lopez sliding challenge.
    • 74' Modric is really forcing everything for Madrid. He's been their best player tonight. He tries to release di Maria down the left but it's cleared.
    • 73' Real Madrid are sitting on the edge of the Espanyol box but can't find a way through. Running out of ideas.
    • 72' Verdu's corner causes problems in the Madrid ranks again. Fortunately for the away side, the referee's whistle goes.
    • 71' Carvalho finds his way into the book. Sixth booking of the evening.
    • 70' Madrid keeping the ball but failing to do anything with it. Ronaldo involved, but not in the final third where he is most deadly.
    • 69' Awful delivery balloons over everyone. Madrid break with di Maria, who finds Ronaldo but his shot from a tight angle is well caught by Casilla.
    • 68' Espanyol have forced a corner...
    • 67' After a lot of rolling around, in the circumstances fully justified, Nacho is back with us.
    • 66' Lots of fouls ruining the flowing nature of this game. Stuani lashes high into Nacho's midriff with a swing of his boot. A proper blow to one's manhood.
    • 65' Alonso's eventful evening continues. He goes into the book after a coming together. Not sure he could have avoided that.
    • 64' Benzema wriggles free of a few Espanyol legs on the edge of the area before finally being challenged. Espanyol break, the ball comes to Wakaso down the left but it ends in nothing more than a Madrid goalkick.
    • 63' Ronaldo shows quick feet on the edge of the area, first to beat two players then to expertly throw himself to the floor when seeking a free-kick. The referee is having none of it.
    • 62' Wakaso goes into the book for a bit of backchat.
    • 61' Ronaldo comes deep to get involved down the left. Everyone around him, including his own teammates, freeze in his presence. The man has an aura.
    • 60' Madrid are a different beast with Ronaldo on the pitch. Suddenly the creative juices are flowing and Espanyol have lost their rhythm.
    • 59' One more goal and Barcelona will have to wait a little longer - probably only 24 hours - to win the title.
    • 58' Modric delivers a superb free-kick onto the head of Higuain who glances the ball home. Who won the set piece? I won't even bother writing his name, you all know already.
    • 57' It's that man. The one we all want to see in action. Ronaldo comes on for Kaka. And he's already jinxing past Espanyol legs down the left.
    • 56' Benzema gets into a good position inside the area but Moreno comes across to see out the danger.
    • 55' Good build up from Modric but he is let down by his teammates. The Croat has looked impressive, his midfield colleagues less so.
    • 54' Garcia stayed down after that challenge but he looks fine. Is that Ronaldo lacing up his boots in the background?
    • 53' Carvalho puts in a superb challenge to stop Garcia who was through on goal. Carvalho looks inspired this second half.
    • 52' Barcelona are forty minutes away from being crowned La Liga champions. Madrid have to win to prevent this.
    • 51' Verdu flies into a challenge on Xabi Alonso. Definite yellow card. One of those that the player doesn't even bother to complain about.
    • 50' Wakaso plays a great one-two with Victor Sanchez before whipping in a decent ball towards Garcia. Just dealt with by the Madrid defence.
    • 49' Modric rejoins us. Madrid have been in the wars a bit tonight. Di Maria's cross from the right fails to find anyone.
    • 48' Modric has crumpled in a heap. He's moving about though on the floor, I think it's just a case of having the wind knocked out of him.
    • 47' Morata was swapped for Karim Benzema at the break. Just spotted Ronaldo warming up as well.
    • 46' Madrid get us back underway.
    • 45+2' Verdu has the chance to slip in a teammate but blazes his pass long and out of play. That's the final action of the first half.
    • 45+1' Two minutes of added time signalled, mostly for the injury to Varane you would think.
    • 45' Benzema jogging up and down the sidelines. Hardly surprising, Mourinho won't like what he's seen so far.
    • 44' Essien's cross finds it's way to Morata who fires in a shot straight at Javi Lopez. It appears to strike his hand but there isn't any great appeal from Madrid.
    • 43' Wakaso whips in a dangerous ball, it's met by Verdu but Diego Lopez saves. The offside flag did go up, so it wouldn't have counted. Madrid switched off again from a set piece.
    • 42' Essien goes into the referee's book after catching Sanchez. Nice position this for Espanyol, thirty yards or so from goal.
    • 41' I know Madrid have a cup final date looming, but it doesn't excuse their very limp showing so far.
    • 40' Kaka releases Higuain but the frontman's pass is poor. Nacho is sprawled over the turf after taking a tumble trying to keep the ball in. Other than him and Modric, it's hard to praise the endeavour of any of these Madrid players.
    • 39' Corner to Espanyol now. Played short, Wakaso loops the ball wide of everyone and it comes to nothing.
    • 38' Raul Albiol is penalised for clambering over a defender's back and the chance is gone. To be fair to the defender, it looked like a very tame challenge.
    • 37' Nacho gets down the left again but his cross fails to beat the first man. He wins a corner though.
    • 36' Nacho is really getting amongst the action down the left tonight but he can't produce any end product at present.
    • 35' Modric to di Maria to Morata. Good crossing position. Nope, he's fluffed it straight to the keeper.
    • 34' A long Lopez goalkick tries to release Higuain but the forward is isolated and Espanyol deal with it easily.
    • 33' Albiol wins the ball back inside his own half to hand his side a breather. Espanyol win it back though. One team want this at the moment. It isn't Madrid.
    • 32' Espanyol force a throw in deep inside the Madrid half, but it comes to nothing.
    • 31' The flag goes up with Kaka well placed to score. Let off for Espanyol as their defence was a bit all over the place.
    • 30' Stuani booked for a high foot on Nacho. Free-kick to Madrid from the left. And yes, you guessed it, Alonso will take it.
    • 29' Huge moment. Moreno heads into the net from the resulting corner, but the referee's whistle had already gone. Xabi Alonso - that man again - was allegedly pushed. It didn't look like a shove to me.
    • 28' Stuani gets in on goal, he's one on one... He's poked it straight at the keeper. Sergio Garcia forces a corner.
    • 27' As it stands this result will hand Barcelona the title with Espanyol winning it for their local rivals.
    • 26' Xabi Alonso is really getting involved here. But not for the right reasons. This time he fouls Victor Sanchez.
    • 25' Joan Verdu almost gets in behind the Madrid backline. Modric comes to Albiol's rescue though.
    • 24' Fortunately for Madrid they've got Ronaldo on the bench to save the day if needed. That goal was not in the script for tonight. Real don't defend set pieces particularly well, it has to be said.
    • 23' A Verdu corner causes all sorts of problems, Sergio Garcia hooks the ball back into the danger zone and Stuani scores from inside the area. 1-0 Espanyol. Very interesting.
    • 22' I think the assistant broke his flag in that episode. No worries, he's been issued another one and we're back up and running.
    • 21' And Alonso's second action is to shove Javi Lopez into the assistant referee who is sent sprawling to the floor. Comedy gold.
    • 20' Alonso's first action is to give the ball away but fortunately for him Carvalho is alert and sweeps up the danger.
    • 19' And it is Xabi Alonso who replaces Varane. That prompts a bit of a reshuffle in the Madrid ranks. Essien goes to right back.
    • 18' It looks like Varane's night is over after twisting his knee. Alonso warming up.
    • 17' Madrid down to ten men for the time being. Morata has been involved a lot in these early stages, but he can't get on the end of a ball over the top.
    • 16' Espanyol keeping the ball confidently now. Varane is down for Madrid.
    • 15' Nacho breaks down the left but theatrically throws himself to the ground under pressure from Christian Stuani.
    • 14' Higuain comes deep to get involved and delivers a delicious crossfield ball from left to right to start a Madrid attack. Morata has the chance to shoot, but he delays and the gap disappears.
    • 13' Victor Sanchez is in. Can he round the keeper? He can't, but his disappointment is immaterial as the offside flag has belatedly gone up. Looked close.
    • 12' Jeers greeting a spell of Madrid possession with Modric and Essien involved.
    • 11' Joan Verdu almost gets down the left, but Ricardo Carvalho and Raul Albiol see out the danger together.
    • 10' Di Maria picks up the ball thirty yards from goal. A good first touch gives him the opportunity to shoot, but it's too close to Casilla to cause the keeper a problem.
    • 9' Javi Lopez gets into a great position but he fails to deliver a decent cross. Easy for the other Lopez, Diego, to catch.
    • 8' And the keeper is called into action again, diving at the feet of Morata and making a save inside the area. Did really well there to avoid clattering the Madrid player.
    • 7' Kiko Casilla - who sounds like a cheap alternative to Iker Casillas - claims a Nacho cross comfortably.
    • 6' Espanyol having the better of the opening exchanges with Madrid struggling to get out of their own half.
    • 5' Nacho is nearly caught on the ball near his own goalline. Gets away with it. Good atmosphere early on.
    • 4' Mubarak (or Wakaso as he's better known) tries to get the ball into the danger zone but his cross is poor.
    • 3' Great tussle between Victor Sanchez and Alvaro Morata on the Espanyol right. The Madrid man comes out on top.
    • 2' Modric gets back to tidy up a dangerous situation early on. And it's now the Croat who gets the ball down for Madrid.
    • 1' We're off. Espanyol in white and blue stripes, Madrid in their famous white kit.
    • 21:00 No Cristiano Ronaldo for Madrid, Mourinho electing to keep him on the bench ahead of their Copa del Ray final date with Atletico Madrid on Friday. Blue flags waving around the stadium, and the players (accompanied by Espanyol's superb blue bird mascot) shake hands. Espanyol to get us underway.
    • 20:55 TEAMS - Espanyol: Casilla, Lopez, Colotto, Moreno, Capdevila, Sanchez, Forlin, Mubarak, Verdu, Garcia, Stuani... Subs: Alvarez, Rodriguez, Tejera, Baena, Petrov, Simao, Alvarez /// Real Madrid: Lopez, Albiol, Carvalho, Varane, Nacho, Essien, Modric, di Maria, Kaka, Morata, Higuain... Subs: Casillas, Ronaldo, Benzema, Alonso, Callejon, Llorente, Casimiro.
    • 20:50 Mission La Liga is technically still on for Madrid. All they need to do is win their remaining three games. Oh, and hope Barcelona fail to pick up more than a solitary point from their last four matches. The title race is definitely not over…
    • 20:45 Hello and welcome to LIVE coverage of Espanyol vs. Real Madrid. After a difficult few days of speculation regarding his future, Jose Mourinho returns to the dugout for 90 minutes of solitude before the media storm is rekindled. Will he be at the Bernabeu next season? Or is he packing his bags and heading back to London with Chelsea?
