Ronaldo Could Still Leave - Real
    Fri 20 Apr, 05:09 PM

Real Madrid director of sport Predrag Mijatovic insists the club has not given up hope of signing Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 22-year-old Portugal international recently committed his future to the Red Devils by extending his contract at Old Trafford until 2012.

Mijatovic admits that the new contract complicates matters but will not rule out a big-money bid for Ronaldo.

Mijatovic told AS: "We expected Manchester United to extend his contract because he is a young player and he draws a lot of media attention.

"No one can stand that pressure. The solution to the problem was to extend his contract, but he will end up on another team this summer if that's what was meant to happen all along."

And Mijatovic did not deny that Real were still interested in bidding for the player.

"We never said he would come here, but I must say we like players like him," said Mijatovic.

"It all depends on the club allowing him to leave and on the player's desire to join the team."

Mijatovic also revealed that he considers Ronaldo as potentially the best in the world.

"He is in great shape right now," he said.

"He is the most promising player in the world. We watch many players closely throughout the year, but that doesn't mean we're going to sign them all."

    • I also love the fact that Benitez said he turned them down(he`s not stupid, the way they go through managers)And Real Madrid says they never offered it to him.All this is making them look really stupid.I think people have realised what they are like now and they have lost there draw.Full of egos and only one manger for a whole season in the last few years.

      • It's a shame really, I would love to see Real Madrid re-build with a commited management team and a group of players wanting to win, not just get paid. However due to their system I don't see anyone getting the longevity to work through a rebuilding process. It's just one quick fix after another.
Just the same no sane manager would want to go there knowing they will likely not last a year, I would think players be a little put off by the instability of new manangers and new styles being demanded of them with each coming coach.
Right now I look at Real like the leagues in Quatar and Kuwait - a hell of a good payday to retire on, but don't expect to win anything...

    • Well Mijatovic has to say something to the voters for the upcoming presidential elections. He promised he would bring Cristiano Ronaldo to the club and thats not gonna happen. So this is his Plan B. Dangle the carrot infront of the fans. Of course he may put his money where his mouth is and make a huge offer in the summer in a last ditch attempt to get more votes. But it would take something in the region of £70-£75 Million to prize Ronaldo away from Old Trafford now.

      • maybe real madrid dont understand much about football. They have just warned off Liverpool for even thinking about asking about Raul, which they havent anyway. Then one idiot, because that's what he is, talks about still coming in and making a bid for a player whose just signed a contract.Either Jose has been taking him out to dinner alot or he's having delusions og grandeur.Real Madrid are a bloody shambles with overrated brazilians in their team

    • I have to say that when I heard that Ronaldo had signed a new contract, I thought hello, heres UTD bumping up his selling price now! I still think Real will come in with a fucking huge offer.

    • If you get offered silly money, something like £50mil,you should sell him.I know you don't have to, but with all that money you could find an adequate replacement for him AND get top class striker.Just think: you sell Ronaldo and get Quaresma and Etoo (not literary but that class).
