`We are underdogs for fourth position, but our fans know that we have also got Everton breathing down our necks and we certainly don’t want them finishing above us,”
Confirming what I said in another thread that liverpool have two reasons for wanting to beat chelsea - the outside chance that they could finish fourth and making sure they are the top team in the city.
This is all getting tiresome. Just leave all the if's, but's and infinite premutations out of it.
At the end of the day, Liverpool are going to play the way they were always going to play. I have always said that it's near impossible for any manager to send his team out to lose and the it's near impossible for any top flight footballer to play to lose. Instinct will ALWAYS takeover. I'm sure if anyone asked Denis Law before THAT game against Citeh whether or not he wanted to score that day, he probably would have said "Not really". But what happened? And look how Liverpool played that day back in 1995 against Blackburn (who were managed by Kop God Dalgleish).
Whoever the Spanish Waiter picks to play against Chelski will play to win. Whether they can achieve victory (or at least get a draw) is a question NOBODY can answer though. So there's no point in talking about it.
If Everton do finish above them Liverpool could end up in 8th place. Then if they don't win the Europa Cup, then they would even be out of all European competition next year. Apart from the fact they are professional footballers who would want to win anyway, Liverpool need to beat Chelsea.

He would say that, of course. However, if they have just won their semi-final, Benitez in his infinite wisdom might decide to rest players. And if they've lost, they might all think they're off and not bother too much against Chelsea.
Who knows. What I do now is that even a weakened demotivated Liverpool team is no pushover at Anfield. I won't be happy during the match until we're 3-0 up. And if he's got any memory and sense, Ancelotti won't be happy then.

Although this whole thread smacks of desperation, 7/11 your post is creme de la creme in desperation.
For the toffees to finish above lfc, they will need to win both and lfc to lose both of their remaining games. In others, lfc just need a draw against Hull to stay above them.
Do the maths son.
I think he knows they wont get 4th Dev .
If they have a real go...than the best i see chelski get is a draw.
But ...theres a lot of iff..& buts..like the thursday europe game.
Will they be knackered,...spurs beat bolton...will they not bother.
Hope they at least have a real go...........!
