We keep being told that the only thing that matters to liverpool is ensuring that utd don`t win the title. But lets look at the other side of the coin.
1. Its liverpool`s last home game of the season - do they really want their fans to see them lose
2. If they lose that`s the end of any hope of fourth place
3. Everton are breathing down their necks and could overtake them and seize the last Europa League place
Are we seriously suppose to believe that liverpool would be happy to be out of Europe and below everton just to ensure that utd don`t pass their titles record? After all records are there to be broken and again are we suppose to believe that liverpool fans have so little faith in their team that they don`t think there will come a time when they can get the record back.
We won't know until we get there. The psychology of it could go anywhere.
Maybe Benitez will know he's going, so (i) he couldn't care less or (ii) he makes a last throw of the dice to say "look how good a manager I am, I can still beat the best team in the country".
Maybe Gerrard just cares about being fit for the world cup. He didn't look fit last night. Maybe he should be rested or will take it easy.
Maybe it's a chance for Liverpool to put in some reserves to give them first team action and show them what it feels like to lose to the big teams.
Maybe the Liverpool team will want to make it up to the fans. Maybe the fans will decide YNWA is worth a last shout for the season. Or maybe the fans will decide they've had enough of Rafa and make a protest and boo their team and manager. Maybe that will spur the team on or maybe it won't.
Maybe Chelsea's week's rest will result in another sparkling goalfest. Why not have Ancelotti get his English league win at Anfield, the home of the team of his worst nightmare?
Maybe Fergie will throw in another few daft comments designed to unsettle Chelsea but just spur them on. Or maybe he's learnt how unproductive it is.
Maybe Chelsea will just have another crap game.
Maybe the referee will want to make himself the centre of attention and award/deny Chelsea/Liverpool daft/stonewall penalties/red cards.
Who knows. There's probably no point in worrying about it beforehand. Which makes my dream about the match last night rather annoying.

Robert...we all know your going to batter the scousers.
After extra time last night they will need their zimmer frames to play that game
..You would have proberly battered them anyway.
Anyway if by some miracle it's a draw or scouser win,we'll proberly draw against s,land..like we did against w.ham in the 80's ...!
Dev...he's getting his excuses in early.
Co's he knows chelski will batter his mid table team.
So stick to dreaming of getting your point from hull.
That's going to be your highlight next yr...anyway.
And you don`t understand football. Some of the trickiest games are those against teams who have been relegated - they no longer have anything to lose and they want if possible to give their fans something to cheer. If liverpool are still chasing the point they need to qualify for Europe which team do you think will be afraid to make a mistake
1. It's a meaningless game for us, so a loss to chelski will be no disaster
2. We can get 4th place? Nice wind up Devon.
3. Being out of Europe could help focus the next manager's mind on the league
