"... such a competition is meaningless."
Stop talking out of your arse as if you're an authority on everything!
If that was the case why have any sort of training?
Training can help improve skills but when it comes to penalties either a player has the menal strength needed to take one or he doesn`t - and no amount of one on ones against your own goalie in training is going to alter that
It's not bullshit at all Butch. I imagine in training every professional player could place a ball in a spot near the corner of the net with very high reliability. But doing that in a game with the world watching is a very different matter. It is as much about nerve as anything else, more so than anything else happening on the pitch.
"why have any sort of training"
An amateur is someone who practises until he can do it right. A professional is someone who practises until he doesn't do it wrong. [Quote attributed to Slayer, February 2013]

How would you know? Practice makes perfect, there's a technique to taking penalties, and what striker wants to hand taking them to a defender who beats him?

You mean quote GOOGLED by slayer!
"Amateurs practice until they do it right. Professionals practice until they can't possibly do it wrong."
Then he changed it so it looked like his!
Thanks, that's very generous of you Robert. But could've done without the 'typo' error on date.
You did the right thing by referencing appropriately unlike some posters on here who just take and pass off the posts of others as one of theirs. We know who they are, don't we?
