    Gary McAllister

Great player. Great Leeds man. Great manager? His only record (Coventry 2002-03) isn't much to go on - personal problems probably got in the way. Does he have the experience and vision to get Leeds out of L1 and into the Championships during his contract? What about beyond 2008?

    • why slag off gary, i think it is the first good decision that bates has made, he didn't do too bad with coventry, for a club that had less cash than us! at least he will care about leeds and the skills he can pass on will be invaluable to the young players, we might now stop hoofing the ball up the field and praying beckford gets it in the net like we have been since poyet left!

      • Lads,
I hear what you are all saying but the season now starts, we ran the 100 metres in 5 seconds at the start of the season, were now doing that at 30 mins we need to get back to the old ways and stop dropping points since we went top albeit for a couple of hours we have dropped right out of it and could miss out all together, get behind macca and see where he leads us.

    • Well boys, LUFC have just saved me a bucket load of money, no more flights back to the UK to watch the team I love, no more sat infront of the tv on a saturday praying for a goal and no more loud discussions when people take the P**s. McCallister is a Pr**k, yes a great player but def not a gentlemen and as for a manager well you will have to wait and see.
It was hard when they brought in Wise but I tried, good luck Leeds and thanks to all the boys B44ts, Nev, Nige, Andre and all I will visit the board to see what you all have to say

      • Aspencuk, I understand what you're saying but I don't believe you. I don't believe you any more than I believe myself when I think all the disappiontment Leeds brings isn't worth the heartache; but I can't leave it alone - it's an addiction! If Leeds won every trophy going I'd still be concerned about how they may do next match or next season...
Macca has the remit of getting us promoted to the Championships. We have 17 games to go - a maximum 51 points; and there is still a strong likelyhood that we will get 36 of them. If he can make any positive surge in the team's performance the points score will be higher and (the 15 point deduction aside) we'll be well placed for promotion. What happens after that will be pretty much up to Ken Bates and/or whoever he sells the club to!

      • Scathing comments indeed ! I wonder what prompts them ? I remember a story an old friend of mine told. He was a traffic cop in Leeds and pulled a Mercedes one night. The driver was Gary Macallister. Leeds had lost away at Everton that night going down 3 - 0 I believe. He asked Mac what had happened, reply, " The best team won" Well, that is very sporting BUT I would rather hear that we played Sh+te, or anything but the best team won ! No, I think you need to be pretty darned annoyed when you cock up big time.

    • Would not be my choice, sorry. Gary, probably a lovely man and a gentleman to boot. I do not think that will make a football manager. Perhaps a nasty side would be better ? But, he was certainly an intelligent player, maybe that will be evident in his coaching skills.Alas, as you rightly say, never did much with Coventry City.Look on the bright side, I do not think he can be any worse than Wise who, was like a fish out of water without Poyet. I wonder if he wants/can bring back Eddie as coach ? Is that too much to ask ...........
