Leeds United Message Board
As the season comes to a close the pool of unwanted and discarded players swells. Will it be rich pickings or slim pickings for Warnock.I fear that NW's current targets are stalling and it could be back to a fresh search.
My pick of the bunch on offer would be Matt Oakley just been released by Leicester by mutual consent. I have watched this lads career since we failed to sign him when he was at Southampton. I do believe that he could pull the strings in mid field and do a Strachan for us. Downside injury prone but seems to have kept fit recently. Should suit Harvey and Bates as he will cost nothing but salary. Craig Gordon another freeby would be a great signing in between the sticks and could resurrect his career with us.After watching the recent play off with Huddersfield I liked the look of Lewington, Williams and Powell from MKD's all looked more than useful with their composure on the ball and distribution something we sadly lacked all season. If Aidy prats us about with his attitude to signing a new contract then Lewington would be the answer. Perhaps Karl Robinson would take Clayton and cash in exchange as he rated him highly when he was on loan to MKD recently. Are there any of those currently released by Everton, Bolton or Sunderland you would fancy chaps?
Tom, based on rumour, the following list of players are targets for Leeds:
El Hadji Diouf - (Doncaster)
Alan Smith - (Newcastle)
Jermaine Beckford - (Leicester)
Stuart Beavon - (Wycombe Wanderers)
Greg Halford - (Portsmouth)
Joel Ward - (Portsmouth)
Luke Varney - (Portsmouth)
David Norris - (Portsmouth)
Ben Watson - (Wigan Athletic)
Paul Green - (Derby County)
Darren Ambrose - (Crystal Palace)
Sol Bamba - (Leicester City)
Matt Mills - (Leicester City)
George Boyd - (Peterborough United)
George Friend - (Doncaster Rovers)
Simon Gillett - (Doncaster Rovers)
Tommy Spurr - (Doncaster Rovers)
Richard Keogh - (Coventry City)
Clint Hill - (QPR)
Paddy Kenny - (QPR)
The list ranges from the sublime to the ridiculous but few names on the list fill me with confidence – especially if, with Bates’ wage cap, Leeds will be in the ridiculous position of having to sell its existing key players to afford to buy any of the above.
To date, Neil Warnock has done a decent job in getting fans back in line but if, through poor transfer dealings, he is seen to be aligned to Bates and not the club, all Hell will break loose next season.
Gordon yes but wages no no no no. I feel there are plenty of players to choose from but Bates has to play ball with the wages. Now if the rent of Elland Road and Thorpe Arch is causing these wages to be a problem then perhaps it's time he sold the club! Emmmm where have we heard this before?
