  • It's good to know some things never change. Serena once again gives no credit whatsoever to her opponent after her defeat yesterday to Svetlana Kuznetsova. It baffles me that the Williams sisters wonder why they are not more popular when they always take defeat in this ingracious arrogant manner. If they just for once admitted that they were beaten by a better player on the day people would warm to them more. Serena should get together with Ronnie O'Sullivan and they could make the most self pitying, arrogant, bigheaded & sorest loser couple in the history of world sports.

    • Totally agree with you, Darren. When she's winning, Serena is all smiles, but she is so incredibly disrespectful otherwise. She cannot fathom that there are better players or people who have better days. When I saw LeBron James' behavior after Cleveland's defeat, all I could think was, "Oh my God. He's taken lessons from Serena." However, to be fair, Darren, in your original post - while you don't mention Venus directly - you do imply that you mean both sisters by using the plural: "Williams sisters." Too bad Venus can't influence her sister more in the area.

      • In the competitive world of sport ( regardless of whichever sport it may be ) an opponent who tries to gain the upper hand and when it does not come off they refuse to be 'gracious in defeat'

To prove this point just listen to some of the excuses that football managers come out with when their team loses, they quite often blame bad tactics of opponents, state of pitch etc.etc... anything but their own faults.

I guess Serena is exactly the same in this respect.

At the end of the day it is just a case of sour grapes or bad sportsmanship!

    • People always seem to talk about the Williams sisters as though they are a single entity. In this instance I think that's most unfair on Venus who, in contast to her sister, is usually a very gracious loser.
