Aussie Open - Possible Banana Skins

Just looked at the draw for the Australian Open and there are a few potential upsets in the first week.

    1st Round

    KIM CLIJSTERS v DINARA SAFINA
The pressure will be on Clijsters here. Might Safina come out swinging and find her range? If she does then Kim will be in trouble. How likely? I wouldn’t care to predict what goes on in Dinara’s head.

    CAROLINE WOZNIACKI v GISELLA DULKO
If Wozniacki isn’t on her game then Dulko might pull off an upset. Possible but Wozniacki is nothing if not consistant.

    2nd Round

    ROGER FEDERER v GILLES SIMON
Simon has a very good record in slams and is possibly the most dangerous unseeded player in the draw. But Federer will know that and is unlikely to be taken off guard.

KIM CLIJSTERS v CARLA SUAREZ NAVARRO
Two years ago at the Aussie Open Suarez Navarro come from 2-5 down in the 3rd set to beat Venus Williams. She went on to reach the QF of a slam for the second time in a year. Since then she’s had a couple of injury problems but this is a player who has a habit of taking down seeds in slams.

    3rd Round

    CAROLINE WOZNIACKI v DOMINIKA CIBULKOVA
Wozniacki’s only outing so far this year was losing in straight sets to Cibulkova in Sydney. Could it happen again?

    JUSTINE HENIN v SVETLANA KUZNETSOVA
Kuznetsova is about the most unpredictable player on tour, capable of playing great tennis and real dross, sometimes both in the same match. If she can find her best form then this one could be interesting.

    SAM STOSUR v PETRA KVITOVA
Kvitova was sensational at Wimbledon. She thrashed Azarenka, demolished Wozniacki and Serena needed her A game to stop her in the semi-final. She has started 2011 by winning Brisbane. This could be problematic for the home favourite.

    • Murray v Del Potro would be a 4th round match if it happens, not 3rd.

Stosur v Kvitova loooks to me the the most likely one to go against the seeding. I can see Petra breaking Aussie hearts in that one. She appears to be in good nick and gave Stosur a 6-2 6-1 hiding in their only previous encounter.

    • The safina vs. kimmy should raise alarm bells for an upset, like you said one wouldn't dare to predict which safina comes out to play, if she is hitting her shots, this is a QF caliber match. I don't see simon troubling fed, he doesn't have a weapon that would overmatch fed.
