Fair point, but I think you need about 2 players for each position to make things competetive. Of the players you mentioned, I think Routledge and Marney are competing for the right wing position, along with Reid who can play either side. Zeigler and Lennon can then battle it out with Reid, and Routledge (who can also play on either wing if needed). Mendes can play out wide if needed too, but him, Carrick, Davis, Tainino, Huddlestone, Brown - will form the centre - and backbone of the midfield I reckon... so I'm not sure the youngsters will feel pushed out, and when they are called upon, we've got a great deal of backup in the squad - so it should be a comfortable transition when being called into the first team. If anything one or two Teenagers might need blooding in the striking positions to keep the more senior players' heads up. I do think we have far too many centre halves... but then again - no-one ever criticised George Graham for that particular habit when at Arsenal!
