Tottenham Hotspur Message Board
Its disgusting if the board sack Jol, it echo's of the bad old days of Gross, Graham etc, when our fickle board always got it wrong. Jols doing a decent job, surely he's got to be allowed to finish the season. Politics are allowed to cloud the issue, and personality becomes important, when football should be all that matters. Most fans love Jol, he's a decent honest manager, that is half throough a job, lets hope he stays.
it would be absolutely disgusting to sack Jol after 3 games.
How can peoples opinions change after such a short period of time. Before the season, everyone was saying we would be challenging for the forth spot on the league. Surely Jol must be doing something right.
Considering before he came to the club we were always a mid table team, our main hope was finishing in the top 8. Hardly what you'd call ambitious. But Jol has helped the club develop and we have had two consecutive good league and cup seasons. To consider firing him after three games of a very very new season is absolutely ridiculous.
If the board decided he wasn't up for the job, why keep him during the pre-season and let him spend £40m
Sunderland have just entered the league, and had a point to prove right from the off, Everton played well, but a 3-1 scoreline was flattering, and Derby didn't turn up.
Nobody is calling for Ferguson's head, despite an equally poor start to the campaign.
Message to the Board...Show some loyalty and backbone!
Come on Martin Jol's blue and white army!!!!!!!
To all those who say Jol should go, you've got very short memories. Do you lot ever go to the lane?
When was the last time we qualified for Europe in back to back seasons?
Why do we need upheavel and then a transition period?
How can you blame Jol for purchases, thats Comollis job, and its 3 weeks in for christ sake!!!!
The stability Jols bought hasnt been there since Burkingshaw, I for one think its a disgrace.Football should be all that matters, and you cant argue with the mans record.
I'm with you, but don't you think that football isn't all that matters to the boye who sit in corporate boxes and worry more about the quality of the wine and the food than they do of the team?
It is a business. If the Spurs board think they can make more money (or maybe more to the point, not make a loss) - from whatever means (could be getting into CL, spending less and achieving slightly more) then that's what they will do. Fottball is no longer the team sheet, its the balance sheet - and taking that step from a mid table team doing averagely well, to a top 4 team doing consistently well takes a board that wants to go there.
Interestingly on the (Jimmy Hill) Sunday Supplement, they implied that Tottenham have recently appeard to be scared of making that transition. This may just be a reflection of that.
I think that Leeds had a profound effect on the whole football management ethos. More than any other factor in the past 20 years (apart from stock market flotations). Boards run scared of over stretching - so maybe Jol could also be seen to be a threat from that point of view - a victim of his own success. You get the feeling that the board may be happier with someone who won the odd cup, got sixth spot on odd occasions and didn't force them to face up to the prospect of risking the business into a foray into the top 4.
Look at Liverpool, they only seem now to be trying to re-gain past glories - based on big investment. Utd the same, ditto the rest.
Its a scary world out there for a football club director.
I have been a spurs fan all my life, and I would be disgusted with the tottenham board if they sacked the best manager we have had for years, Jol may not have the tactical awareness of other top managers but the team play for him. There is no way that I can see Jol wanting to sell Berbatov, I think someone is trying to cause trouble somewhere.
I too will be disgusted if JOL is sacked. I agree he is not the most tactically gifted manager but when you consider he is only in the start of his career as one he is like our team one that will be growing together.
Not only that he hasnt done too bad in two full seasons has he. I think he is learning all the time>
Im just worried what this is doing to the players who need to play like a team.
The board and the media should be ashamed of themselves for bringing this club down once again after for once people talked about us for our FOOTBALL on the pitch!!
Money men are taking over this game! I fear football is dying. It will never be the same!
