Do you suggest we kept one of Keane and Berb then? Neither wanted to be playing here, Berb was stroppy and arrogant (as can be seen from some of his "humble" comments on joining Man U) which I reckon put other players on edge, and Keane was effectively captain for almost 2 seasons, so if he suddenly changed his tune it again would have a huge effect on the team as a whole.
As this was such an unexpected turn of events - a couple of months earlier Keane had been shouting from the rooftops that he wanted to finish his career at WHL - no replacements had been finalised. I think the board genuinely thought they'd stop Berb leaving, but with Robbie gone they had no chance. By all accounts Pav should be something special for us, and one's better than none. It's a frustrating situation, but I think essentially just a cock-up, not necessarily a travesty of the board's stupidity.
But with all our ups & downs over the transfer window, I'm just relieved it's done with, and I imagine the board all are too. I think for most people here we're now at a point here we have to accept that was our frustrating past, and this is the future with the new strikers.
