The game against Burnley was either 3-3 or 4-4 if my memory serves me well. They and Spurs were the top teams at that time, I think Burnley won the league (or R/U) 59/60.
As for John White, he had a little of Martin Peters' ability to ghost in to the area unnoticed as well as Hoddle's ability to spray passes. He made the game look easy and yes, I'm sure he would have been one of the greats and to a lot of older Spurs fans he was.
Getting to Spurs was easy for me because although I lived twenty miles away, it was a single bus ride to the ground. We used to get there early to get to the front, you could almost touch the players.
Have to register one complaint with you, Old Fan. I noticed when you started this thread you used the U.S. date format. Now, us Brits should be trying to educate the colonials, not encouraging them to adopt their own version of the ENGLISH language. Shame on you!!!
