I'm with the Jeffall on the captain thing - no denying he's a good player and has done well since his return, but saying that leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, and I don't think he treated the club or fans with much respect, so him being captain is hardly leading by example in my book.
But it really doesn't matter what I think, that's how it is & until someone else in the team is consistent & influential enough (or until any other club anywhere in the world come in for him & he fucks off again) to give him compeition for it that'll be how it stays. Que sara sara (I'll try really hard for this to be the last time I point all this business out too).
Oh, and in my book no congratulations for how it must have been really hard for him to come back; it was the coward's way out of realising he wasn't going to have a glittering career in a CL team on a plate, & he thought he could come back to the team he'd rejected and fall straight back into place. He's not had anywhere NEAR enough grief for it. If anyone Everton/Villa upwards comes in for him again, he'll be off; you mark my words.
