    • unrealistic & stupid to even suggest it!

4th is still going to be tough to get.

& if 10pts isnt that much then u could also say we could end up in 8th.

also we still have the big 3 to play. & u know how bad our record is against those 3. id take a win & 2 defeats right now.

4th spot & fa cup is the max for us. which is good enough.
if u start then saying things like 3rd u are just going to devalue 4th & the fa cup if we get it.

    • hey its just a dream ..finishing above the scummers..surely we satrt every season dreaming of finishing top ..even if we know we wont if we cant dream a little then why bother entering any competition, and i didnt say 10 points is nothing and i realise that we could still finish 7th or 8th but still what if.......

      • Good on yer, Weyspurs, what's wrong with dreaming a little.

We all do it sometimes, whether it's a Ferrari, winning the lottery or Kylie (steady Jimmy Pearce). It ain't gonna happen, especially for Jimmy, but so what.

I agree about 4th spot being jumped up, but we are where we are and if it brings CL to WHL, with the chance of playing the best teams in Europe then I say Bring it On.

It also raises our profile a little and will assist in attracting/keeping better players so that we can push to the next level. So I see 4th spot as a means to an end rather than a glory thing.

I guess most spuds will see it that way too....... once the initial excitement fades.

    • So KM the question is how do we get to that place? While not being the sharpest knife in the drawer, I figure that first we have to qualify for the CL, and then we have to do it again, and again.
And I disagree with you about not bringing the players in - I guarantee that we will bring in some more top class players if we do qualify AND it will minimize the risk of some of our top players leaving for CL footie. And the only hope we have of ousting 'Pool from the top four is retain and/or attract good players to enable that to happen.
(Aside from which - I think that competition in the EPL is going to result in more of a top 7 - with Man. Utd., Chelsea, Arsenal, Us, Man. City, Villa, and Liverpool all vying for the top 4 spots - I think that process started last year).
If we make CL, get bumped, and do well (win) the UEFA cup, that will still be huge - in fact an interesting question is if we make the CL - would it be better to get bumped and win the UEFA cup, or get through and lose in the semi-finals of the CL? (and I realize that this is all theoretical at this point in time).
The argument I would also make is that if we make 4th and the CL - then we certainly deserve to be there, and placing 4th in what is undoubtedly the toughest and most competitive league in the world is no mean feat and we should certainly go into any game in Europe with the belief that we can win.
Last but not least - it would not surprise me to see some kind of salary cap be placed on the all football clubs - especially if a few more over extended and debt laden clubs get into financial trouble (which thankfully we are not).
So - bubble not burst - I will respectfully disagree with you - of course all a moot point unless we make it into the CL.

    • sorry, I missed this discussion - Kylie came over for a fry-up & fell asleep on the sofa, blew out my whole bloody day!

    • I think we could attract better, ie world class, players if the economy was in a better state. The exchange rate of £ to € is shite and consequentially wages are more beneficial on the continent. As it seems most, if not all, are in it for the money!
Unless a player is currently playing in the Third World our wages would not appeal as much as mainland Europe. Our tax incentives are not exactly inspiring either.
Oh for the days of €1.5 to the £ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for holiday reasons too. lol

    • Hey Weyspurs - how does it feel to be told you are being stupid to make such an outrageous suggestion??? Who does SB think she is????

Everyone can dream mate and there is nothing wrong in that. SB is being typically "glass half full" as usual so don't take any notice. Yes its a bit of a pipe dream but hey we are good at those!!!

Is CL football all about the money - yes. Do I care - a bit but not much. If it helps us get better players, helps our coffers, helps us win some silver, lets us see some of the top teams in Europe play at WHL then I am all for it.

    • Yup, I thought the "stupid" comment was a bit out of order (maybe bang out of order, depending on if she was directing it to Wey personally, which I don't think she was). While I think its unlikely at this point in the season it wasn't long ago we were in second and three points behind the Mancs...probably longer than a seven game stretch saw us fall from that lofty perch...until a mathematical impossibilty, don't count it out

Remember this SB - Audere est Facere

    • Any truth in the rumour that SB lives in Manchester and goes to most Utd home games?
Might explain this tendency to be overly critical of anything short of perfection!

    • Glad someone else thought SB was out of order Rambro.

By the way I was being sarcastic when I used the "glass half full" analagy. We all know SB's glass is always well over half empty.

Also, I am thinking of changing my profile from Sfer to SpursHunk. What do you think??

Actually I am not thinking that at all but what sort of person calls themselves Spursbabe??? There is something wrong with people that choose self delusional monikers like that. IMO obviously.

    • I basically agree with you Sfer, but I'm sure SB is completely self delusional, as she is not exactly ugly, looking at the photo. I'm just an old fart now, but she would have done very nicely for me thirty years ago.

Not now though, she would only accuse me of being unrealistic and stupid............. mind you, she'd be right in that respect.
