Absolutely livid on his behalf. Poor Hughton's not had the best run with employers; he hung on here desperately waiting for his crack at the big job which was never gonna happen, and now the whole Newcastle situation has been farcical. Ashley's never wanted him, and tried to piss him about until he quit, but he didn't bank on his determination.
Not only is it bad treatment, but it's poor business sense; he was doing A Good Job - did Ashley not see the Sunderland game?! Does he really think 11th was a poor position for a team he and his previous managers all but destroyed 18 months earlier?? I disagree that they were expected to come straight back up, I for one thought the backroom meddling could've easily seen them in League 1 last May, and I'm stunned to see them flying so high.
I would love to see him back here one day; probably not straight after 'Arry, but if he gets a more stable job maybe within 5-10 years. On the plus side, any chair with an ounce of sense will see how well he did with the dregs of a team.
Sorry, this has turned into a rant!
In other news, Jol quit Ajax tonight... Martin for Newcastle???
