    • I'm struggling to understand the logic behind Bent wanting to leave Sunderland - currently 6th in the table with a good shot at UEFA Cup footie next season - for Villa, who are languishing near the bottom of the table. It's not as if he's benchwarming after all, and he's scored a few goals so far this season. And for a minumum bid of £18m?

Has he had a falling-out with Bruce d'you think?

      • Must admit I was trying to work this one out myself driving home Kentish.

Currently at a team where he's regarded as a first pick, a team on the way up and chance of European football. Going to a team where he will almost certainly still be a first pick but may not get on so well with their style of football, a team looking to be on the slide and even possibly heading for the Championship.

Got to be more to it - something behind the scenes with the management (like you said), doesn't like it up north anymore or maybe just wanting to add to the bank balance with one more signing on fee?

      • Mel, the logic is money talked Bent walked, simple as that no matter what he has said about Villa he has now increased his wages from the £60,000 a week here to £80,000 at Villa fact.Bents head was turned last summer when Fenerbache made a big bid for him with wages to match,Bruce was faced with the prospect of losing both his strikers as Jones was just about to finalise his move to Stoke. The board then upped his wages to keep him here but as we saw once again on Sunday he wanted to be away.No one here is sad at this, maybe what he has said yes,but to get this money for him, as all you Spurs know as well as us is brilliant,he needs half a dozen openings to convert one and often misses sitters with scuffed shots, i only hope this money and the rest available is spent wisely and NO we don't want Crouch or Pav.

    • Steve Bruce was just on the phone, told me to have a quiet word with Harry, so I did. I said (36 goals in 63 games and £14 million profit---Steve sends his regards mate.)
Harry said (Fuskc off the pair of you and you can forget about Pav.)
      Once bitten twice shy, eh.

    • The word 'blimey' was the succinct reaction of several people when the news that Bent had handed in a transfer request broke, with eyebrows raised to heights usually only reached by those of Carlo Ancelotti at the fee.

That the sum could rise to as much as £24m may initially seem absurd, but since 2005 only Wayne Rooney and Didier Drogba have scored more Premier League goals. There is a reason why this deal would send the total spent on him over the £50m mark.

There's the facts guys and gals, irrespective of personal opinion the onion bag's been hit on a regular basis. Can't believe he's packing his Louis Vuitton's, mind you, strong rumours up here that Chelsea's in the wings. Something dodgy afoot here---or he's just a greedy tw@t.

    • should never have sold him. to think we spent 12m buying keane back & then 14m on pav!

id much rather bent then either of those 2.

    • Bent is a cunt

Still, it's given us a couple a quid for Pienaar.

      • I think his stats and records show he's decent,

But thats it! Bent's only attribute is that he will convert 1 in 5 chances, he offers nothing more and clearly has very little respect for the Clubs and Fans who pay his wages.

I was happy when we sold him, now I'm happy sunderland sold him, another 3 mil for a player who rates himself higher than anyone else ever will.

If he's moved to try and get an England spot he is deluded, as long as Defoe is fit, Bent won't get picked. Plus there is a decent chance HR will be England manager one day, he would never pick Bent, sadly Bents move can only be motivated by money.

Dont worry Sunderland Gyan is better anyway!

    • Not if you want more tickets to WHL you won't Beni ;-))

    • ...should have checked first - he's .22 - ie 1 in 5. Maybe the last time I checked was when he was at Spurs (that's my excuse anyway!).
      Daffy is .14 - ie 1 in 7.
      Keane .24 - ie 1 in 4
      Pav is .12 - ie 1 in 8
      Crouch is also .12 - ie 1 in 8

(All taken from the Barclay's site)

As SB would point that, stats can be used to show anything and the fact that Bent scores doesn't make him a good player (makes him a bloody good buy if you ask me, if you're looking for someone with a record for scoring).
Personally, I didn't rate Bent's 'style' ( he looks 'clumsy' to me), but you can never say he's not a good striker. I'd rather have a Bent than a Heskey. But then I'd rather have a Berbatov than a Bent and a Keane than a Daffy and a Pav than a Crouch - but they're just personal preferences.

    • Don't forget my 5%, I put a lot of work into this one. Chelsea wanted to throw a player and cash in for him and Liverpool were arguing amongst themselves. But, I can't divuldge too much info because Harry's got me persuading someone else up here at the minute.

    • From recollection bent is about the same as Daffy - scores about 1 in 8 shots - if you want the stats look here http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad?id=367&cc=5739 or here
and then go back and choose the team and season you're after.

    • Any idea how many assists Bent has made in his career?

Its still part of most attackers jobs to create goals.

Any idea how many goal scoring opportunities Bent had?

He's a good finisher, but I reckon he converts 1 in 5 of his chances.

Not sure anyone could argue that he's not a decent player, but he's obviously just a bit of a tool!

Alan H see if you can sort a deal for, Keano £7mil, its a deal.
