    Hodgson cleared for England talks

So Harry not going for the England job, why oh why did he not rule himself out from the start, unless he wanted the job that is.

      • A relief i imagine for all Spurs fans, but now we face 4 more wasted years. This is a typical average man appointed by a less than average fa.What has this man done to warrant such an appointment compared to Redknapp, the peoples choice? He is truly a yes man and Bernstein and Brooking and all the other non descripts will sleep easily in their beds. This really is astonishing, but typical of the duffers within.Hodgson has publicly stated he would have to think about taking a job where the majority of the supporters are NOT behind him such as at Liverpool. That is bollocks becausr there are more fans against this than ever there was at his Anfield appointment.Sadly another weak decision from the fountain fallers.

    • we all know why the dinosaurs at the FA chose hodgson don't we......'arry has got baggage ......and image comes before ability..so squeaky clean roy gets the job....look at clough and venables.....ignored over so called baggage.....hodgson could not cut it at liverpool.....he has a defensive mentality.....
another xdisaster looms.....mcclaren ,capello .....and now hodgson....

Hodgson & England: He could succeed in job - Mark Lawrenson
Roy Hodgson could be a surprise success as England manager, according to BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson.

The Football Association has been given permission to speak to the West Brom manager, and Lawrenson believes England's underdog tag at Euro 2012 could suit Hodgson.

“I think Harry was the people's choice but, you never know, Roy might be the right man at this moment”

        Mark Lawrenson
"People are saying they will struggle a bit out there [at Euro 2012], but that might suit Roy," said Lawrenson.

"He might make them difficult to beat and nick a couple of results."

Hodgson has a good track record with lesser-fancied teams in the Premier League, leading Fulham to the Uefa Cup final while steering West Brom into the top half of the division.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp was favourite to replace Fabio Capello, though, and Lawrenson admits he did not anticipate the FA turning to 64-year-old Hodgson instead.

"I am surprised," he said. "It was starting to look like Stuart Pearce would get the job, but I think he will still go to the Euros with Roy to help him.

"Is Roy Hodgson the right man? Only time will tell.

"I think Harry was the people's choice but, you never know, Roy might be the right man at this moment.

"He is under pressure but he suits the politics of the job with the FA, which is part and parcel of the job."

    • Not necessarily the case Calgary. I'm sure 'Arry would love the job if offered. No doubt the FA will interview others - but compensation could be the sticking point with 'Arry as he's got a couple of years to run on his contract, whereas Woy is out of contract come June.

Wouldn't surprise me if Woy was to turn it down though, gentleman that he is, saying 'Arry's the best man for the job.

    • OMG the fa are scraping the barrel. hodgson as manager? my god he,ll last the euros , when we dont get to the last eight. and he,ll be gone. someone thats manage 20 teams in his career and won nothing great.
