Joe, The football associations never seem to want to cause waves though. They have had a Respect campaign in place for what seems like decades, and we still see the same abuse on the pitch. There are FA rules covering this - 2011/12 General Behaviour Section 3.1 stated: '...A Participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour......'
So, if the FA do honestly want 'Respect' and to uphold the 'repute' of the game, then I don't see that they have any option but to do something. But they also then have to 'do' Ferdinand as well. If they don't want to do anything, then get rid of the rule that makes that type of behaviour an 'offence'. Will the FA enforce it?
