Apologies if this has been mentioned somewhere else, I've had a quick squizz and not seen it.

According to the BBC, "Dawson has been told he will be Tottenham's third-choice centre-back this season but has been offered guaranteed first-team football by QPR".

Somebody tell me this is media nonsense, yeah?

I'm not necessarily saying that he's the no 1 CB without contest, he's been injured & blah blah blah, but surely it would be a terrible terrible manager who 1) EVER told a player they were 3rd choice - surely that would be demotivating and encourage the "top 2" to sit on their laurels - but, more importantly, 2) was stupid enough to be in post for what? Two months, and 1 competitive game? And think they know the team dynamics well enough to be able to make a decision about player pecking order for the entire season?

I know AVB will want to put a firm stamp on the team, but the thought of Daws going (and to QPR! The very least I'd say he's worth is an Everton, or if he wanted to stay in London at least a link up with old Jolly) makes me feel a little uneasy...

But it doesn't matter cos it's just the same media malarkey, yeah?

      • Probably means they think Caulker's ready for the big time...or close to it. Be a shame to Daws go under any circumstance, but it would be more of an impact if Walker, er, walked, seeing as we don't really have another true RB (ok, maybe Naughton, but what's been happening with him, since the Norwich loan last season?).

Bright side...Bassong's gone and Ade's ante'd up and joined us!

Keep Dawson if we can, but if not, I for one wish the lad well (except for at least 2 games a season where he can go get himself sent off - against us...wicked grin!)

    • Gutted :'-(

    • This is crazy in my mind I had vertonghen and Daws as a partnership
Now we have accepted a 9 mill bid from QPR for him
What little faith I had in AVB just went out the window he does not have a clue
The quicker he gets the sack followed by levy resigning the bettered it's going to be a long season hanging around the bottom of the table.

    • I'm afraid this could be the straw that breaks my back if he goes
And we don't get anyone in and we fail to strengthen the squad anymore
Then darn it I'm handing in my badge been a yid all my life but enough is enough.

    • it seems obvious that it would have made much more sense to let gallas go & keep dawson.

but greame has a point. dawson isnt in the sale class as the likes of king. he is a good player but his pace does let him down. for example avb is probably thinking caulker can turn in to an all round better player than dawson as he is more mobile & quicker.

the other good point is injuries. dawson seems to regularly get a serious injury which doesnt help us or him.

but in saying all that, id still have kept dawson & got rid of gallas.

agreed about hudd greame. iv read on some articles spurs fans being so upset that hudd is going.
i mean he has never been consistantly good for us. he is never a top 6 club player. yes he has a good right foot but it is rarely effective. he also seems to pick up injuries regularly.
i also think hudd isnt very commited & doesnt give his all, which isnt good for CM. surely he could have a lost some weight & been a bit more mobile. yet he makes no real effort to do it despite being paid such huge amounts.

    • its injuries that worry me...if say Vertonghen or Kaboul goes down, Caulker will have to learn on the job (is there any other way?) with only Gallas on the bench
I'd have thought keeping all 4 CB's with Gallas as emergency 5th choice would suit our needs best - its not like we have the best record with injuries last few seasons, I just think it's a big risk

    • Graeme,
I think the AVB or Levy bit so far has largely been answered in the transfers 'so far'. I don't think AVB was around for Krancjar, Corluka, Vertonghen, Saha, Nelsen. The Ade saga was ongoing as was Sigurdsson and Pienarr.
So so far, I don't think I have seen a 'true' AVB sale/buy. Damiao was already linked and 'worked' on prior to AVB.
Whether Levy's hand is seen in the Daws/T'Hudd rumours is the bit that is debatable to me.
I'm not sure the team hasn't changed much - maybe the first 11 is relatively static (2 new players so far), BUT, the effect on the squad is marked. The squad will be used.
We used Bassong, King, Gallas, Kaboul, Daws (played 13 games, 17 squads), Nelsen at CB last season - although injuries hit quite hard. In midfield, Krancjar, Corluka, T'Hudd - played first 4 games and Pienaar were all used. We also used Pav and Saha up front. So far, from those we have lost Pav, Saha, King, Nelsen, Corluka, Pienaar and Krancjar with rumours of Daws and T'Hudd going. We have added two players.
To me the squad is diminished at this point with 8 days to go. Panic? No, but if T'Hudd and Daws do go, I think it's a large hole in the squad. Especially if you start looking at the 25 man squad and 8 homegrowns. From the homegrwons we may end up losing King, Daws, T'Hudd - and I still don't see Jenas or Bentley featuring either personally (they didn't feature last season did they?) - and the rumours also remain about Daffy going as well. The homegrown element may look thin even with Caulker, Parker, Livermore, Bale, Walker, Naughton, Rose, Lennon.
So the confusion to me is the squad. Why sell players who featured and keep two who didn't feature at all? Why sell Daws and keep Gallas - because of speed? I just don't see that.

Maybe we have been trying to get move on Bentley and Jenas and just can't at the 'right' price. Jenas's contract runs out next year as does Gallas's. Will they be renewed? Doubt it.
      Bentley has until 2014.
Just FYI the contracts for Cudicini, Friedel, BAE, Two Saints also end next year.

I only recall him having a problem a couple of seasons back where he missed quite a few games.

And lest it's forgotten, although Gallas (IMHO) did a stirling job for us, he had a couple of bouts of injury - didn't he miss quite a few games over the last two seasons?

    • Evening fellow YIDS.
First post since the end of last season and must say that the board is full of enthusiasum and fight which keeps me coming back for more.
Firstly with reference to the daws situation, was shock, horror, etc as he has been a standout player for us and has played a big part in getting us from a mid table team to where we are now,a top 4 side which hopefully will continue.
How dare AVB and the board consider letting him go,when the likes of Gallas were brought in to help due to injuries and was seen as a stand in.
SO now we are one of the top 4 sides, the loyalty aspect kicks in and although AVB may what to tinker a bit, he should Daws his chance to prove himself.
It was only after reading Graemes post that i calmed down and decided that it was not a good idea to find out where AVB lives and give him a good hiding.
I accept we must move on,but would rather do it with ambassidors like DAWS in my squad.
