Birmingham City have made a move for Slovakian international Jan Novak, skysports.com understands.
The 24-year-old is being tracked by a host of English clubs - indeed Fulham failed with a bid to land him last summer.
Now his club MFK Kosice are ready to let him leave in January and have allowed him to travel to England this week.
MFK have told Novak that he is free to decide who he wants to join, and it is believed he has now linked up with Birmingham on trial for the rest of this week.
MFK's head of football development Allen Bula would not confirm Birmingham's interest - but admitted his future is likely to lie away from the club.
"We cannot comment on any reports about Jan," he told skysports.com.
"It does look like he will be sold, but to what team in which country - we cannot say at present."
Novak has an impressive goalscoring record with MFK, grabbing 39 goals in the last two-and-a-half years
It's a thought Pat, but on the other side, am hoping we aim higher than that. Wigan are on borrowed time in the Prem IMO, and their players never really excite me. Just my view but I would like to see players that can take the team to the next step up, and are those Wigan players doing it for them ?
I don't think this guy is the answer, he is from a mid table slovenian side, he is an average goalscorer,in an average league probably comparable to div 1!
I hope they go for the red bull Austrian guy, he is more proven, playing at a higher level!
