    v CD Nacional

If anyone thinks this will be a walkover for Blues, think again. This is the club that notably used to have a young Christano Ronaldo playing for them among others and have gained quite a lot of experience in European football, notably having claimed the scalp of Zenit St Petersburg in the past. Anyone going will find the ground in Funchal, Madeira, and I saw the ground whilst on holiday there a couple of years back. Its quite impressive.

Should be a nice trip for the lads, but I don't expect us to win this one. You never know though, they may take a liking to Cameron and take him off our hands.

    • Me and my daughter went last night. We had seats in the GM block 3.
Redmond first half slaughtered National. They were terrified of him. A goal to grace any Euro game and he made chance after chance. Rooney could have had a first half hat-trick and we also hit the post and Burke had one off the line.
Good goal from Murphy (og?) header off the bar, had the place rocking.
Second half was more even until the last 15 minutes when we started to bring Redmond back into the game. His turn of pace to the edge of the box and curling shot round the keeper came back towards him off the post and Wood put the rebound 10 yards wide. Their keeper who had a strange ritual of kneeling on the goal line with his arms outstretched while looking skyward at the beginning and end of each half made three good saves, two from Rooney then a chipped shot from Woods before Woods got the third.
The icing was a superb bit of skill from Redmond in by the corner flag in the last minute. Surrounded by three defenders he did some step-overs, shimmied and twisted his way past all of them. Incredible.
How refreshing to see Blues play with some skill and flair. And no shortage of attacking ideas.
Under McJudas it would have been drop deep and defend a one goal lead.
      Thank god for Chris Hughton.

    • Great performance from the team, well done.
We need to take spirit and work ethos into our league games too.
Redmond was outstanding and deserved more than his one goal.
The atmosphere was brilliant and was well worth an extra man too.
Nice to see a near full stadium, admittedly, in today’s game, the tickets were at a give away price, but surely, it is better to have 30,000 at 12 pound than 15 at 30 pound, just for the atmosphere alone, Nacional only had 77 supporters.
Something to cheer at last but the league must be our priority; still we can enjoy a few more travel for a while.

    • Well played the lads.
Unlucky not to come away with something more, hitting the post twice.
Away goal could always come in useful, but we will the fans behind them, that will be worth more.
