Some positives and our new line up

    sagna toure gallas clichy

    rosicky/ fab ????? nasri

    RVP Ade

well i think this should be our new starting line up for stuttgart. but as we know toure is out but hopefully he will get better for the prem league and fill that role in. hopefully this will give us and the team a chance to see how the new addition nasri plays instead of hleb.

gilberto and flamini leaving have depleted our def mid position and as much as i love denilson he is just not ready yet. so between alonso, barry and veloso i dont mind either. but would prefer veloso for his versatility. (he can play across the whole of mid)

we defo need a defender as i will never be fully confident in sendo.

hopefully this season we will see ramsey play
preferablly on the RW or center during the cup games. merida is another talent i cannot wait to see play in left mid as our team has been in need of a natural left footed player to utilise that position. Vela to me seems to be a natural striker but during his period with osasuna he hass playing LF/LW so what position will enger opt to play will be tricky. but as we say "in wenger we trust" and im sure he will make the right decision.

hopefully with all this ade nonsense we sell him and get some who truely wants to play for our club. this hopefully will also give bendtner the confidencec and chance to prove himself. he just needs to fix up his finishing and he will be a step closer to breaking in the first team.

I still think walcott is not ready for playing ST so i think its better for him to play RW where he can take on players be effective and used during counter attacks and give balls into the box. he still has allot to learn.

I think our key areas of success this season will as always rely on fabregas's ability and performances during the matches, but i do realise that there are 11 players. perosnally i think this season will key for our defence to get their act togather as last season we gave needless goals away and countless draws which caused our downfall. our bench will also be key to our success. Players like ramsey, walcott bandtner denilson, diaby and vela need to step up and prove that they should be playing in the first team.

the reason why i say this is becacuse last season when RVP and Fab got tired or injured our team went into a self destruct mode. last season our first team were over exhausted and fatiue kicked in. therefore this season this players have to share the burden and raise the to ease pressure of the first team.

let me know what you think and any positive and constructive critcism is welcome.

    • Diaby blows hot and cold, his performances are either 5/10 or 8/10. He has shown all the attributes to be a world class player, just never all in the same game! I think given a run in the team he would do well. He deserves it much more than say Eboue, who had so many opportunities last season and was always either poor or abysmal.

    • There are plankton with more football acumens than you Fred

diaby is not good enough, thats plainly clear to all who can see

    • Diaby has never had a run in the team to enable him get to his best. That guy is going to be one ofthe EPL's best players this season

      Mark my word

    • Misleading thought fred, the word on the grape vines is that Nasri will explode onto the scene and Diaby will never be as big as first planned.

Diaby has struggled consistently to produce the feats of vieira as hoped for, and now it seems the pressures have prooved to great to bear the burden.

Dont be FOOLED into thinking otherwise amigo.

    • The issue isn't with the first team, but rather the cover that we have (or haven't got), going into the new season.
The team you outlined will certainly be a match for most of the opposition they will face in the months ahead - however, if (when) RVP, Rosicky and (perish the thought) Cesc are injured, we simply don't have the players in reserve who can replace them.

We need to compare and contrast the midfield choices available to us and the other serious contenders, and see how it looks :

      Giggs, Scholes, Hargreaves, Nani
      Ronaldo, Carrick, Anderson, Park

      or else

      Essien, Obi Mikel, Ballack, Cole
      Malouda, Lampard, Deco, Kalou

      We have :
      Rosicky, Diaby, Cesc, Nasri
      Walcott, Denilson, Ramsey, Eboue

If we don't replace Gilberto/Flamini with at least one established and proven midfielder, and get in cover for Toure/Gallas, I would be seriously worried for the year ahead.

You cannot forever 'build for the future' if you risk undermining the present at the same time -
another season without a proper trophy and it is inevitable that our most ambitious players (Cesc, Adebeyor, RVP, etc) will start to look elsewhere.

      • Our first XI is still very strong except for holding midfield, but Wenger has stated that he will definitely make a signing in that position. I would like to see Veloso or Yaya Toure, both younger and possibly cheaper than Gareth Barry, although the likelihood is a young french unknown from Ligue 1. But if they're another Sagna, I can't complain!

Like geoj says, the problem is depth in the squad. We have again lost 3 experienced players this summer and replaced them with 21 year old Nasri, and Coquelin and Ramsey - both 17. I think we are now well stocked for wide players and strikers; Nasri, Vela and Bendtner will be quality substitutes to bring from the bench and change a game, and each of those has very different qualities. When Eduardo returns we will have serious competition for places.

Central defence is still a worry, the Gallas-Toure partnership hasn't been as water tight as gooners had hoped it would be. And neither Senderos or Djourou seem to have made much progress over the last 2 seasons. The young Nordtveit looks very promising but at 18 he needs more time to develop physically. Song was a revelation last season, and he is capable of playing either CB or DM, the two main problem positions for us right now. I'd really like to see him given a run in the first team in either position.
