Arsenal Message Board
The Arsenal of the 80’s and 90’s were known for their brutal attitudes and temperament on the pitch. They relied on strength in unity, and they played together in grinding out the results. But now, the days of ‘1-0 to the Arsenal’ seemed to have passed us by, and it’s only in recent weeks that I’m seeing a team so desperate to cling onto the points. And frankly, I’m not complaining.
Don’t get me wrong; I love Arsenal’s play, and the way they have held the club together. Nothing is going to change my opinion of the club, and I will continue to love it the way I’ve always done so. But after all that, after all the build-up play and the pretty little triangles and all that, it’s the score that comes up on the big scoreboard that matters. And it’s never a good sight when the score’s against us, even when we’ve had all the possession and absolutely spanked their arses for 90 minutes.
This season, I’ve seen a dogged determination on the part of the Arsenal players when defending a lead. Earlier seasons saw us crumble in the face of intermittent pressure, but this term we have finally learnt that sometimes you need to go it the hard and ugly way. Sunderland and Udinese at home weren’t the most entertaining of games, but it were certainly two of the most heartening ones. We saw an Arsenal team go onto the pitch with their heads firmly screwed on, and once they realised that it wasn’t exactly going to plan, they went about it the ugly way. We saw everyone flinging themselves around, putting in last-ditch tackles, jumping for every lofted ball, gambling on any half-chance. And that’s the way it has to be sometimes; you just have to play negative to egt to the positive.
Of course, I would hate for Arsenal to go ALL negative, like most of Mourinho’s teams. But you cannot argue that his philosophy, while not exactly being the most popular, got much needed results to his clubs. There’re a few major faults in his coaching style, and I would hate for Arsenal to start playing deadbeat football like Inter 2 seasons ago. But it IS true that I would like Arsenal to go about their jobs with a set-plan, and do whatever it takes to get it done.
Arsenal will forever play its beautiful football, and I’ll always be the first to praise it when it’s working. But you just cannot ignore the bloody scoreboard at the end of the game, and it’s no use if we don’t get the result we needed. You just HAVE to play negative sometimes, and I believe that Arsenal’s play has somewhat changed towards the same. We are no longer relying on our attack scoring one more than our defense concedes, rather it depends on the defence getting another cleen-sheet in every bloody game. You cannot lose if you don’t concede, and honestly, any team which can go and score 6 at Stamford Bridge can do whatever it so wants. Let’s spur on the team, and let’s aim for the results we all want.
Another excellent post j lubov. Its always refreshing to read your posts as they are simple, to the point and straight forward. I do wonder what it is you said to get some, with the replies, abusing and accusing you of 'cut & paste'(who uses that term anymore unless they are a bit slow of course) I always thought it was 'copy'?? But there you are. they seem to know their head from their arse I suppose. Anyway keep up the good work lubov. And dont let the ignorant get you down.
If you have nothing to add Slayer, not even a new nickname, then why bother?
It's not as if you've been showing yourself up to be a shining star in this.
I'm off out now, but I will see if you have managed to think of anything new to say this evening.
So now you turn on the object of your original post.
"The 'lube job' will read it and understand"
Lube job? Sounds like an activity you might share with some of your pals here Dodge.
"Oh and by the way Get a bloody job or something to occupy yourself, you idle prick"
Ha ha ha ha Like you don't know that I have a job. You've failed with that one too.
Bappy? Oh my word. Slayers effort with 'Baptista' was better than that.
You are becoming increasingly cryptic Dodge. Maybe you should have a nap.
