    A Team in Decline?

Arsene Wenger is rather well known to be vehemently quick in identifying key targets and notoriously slow in making a move for them. This season, like most recent years, has been no exception to the rule.

The Frenchman has been grabbing headlines even before the opening of the transfer window, for identifying a number of high profile players to make a move for. However, fans have seen next to nothing when it has come down to luring those players to the Emirates. Despite being handed over a handsome £70m kitty for the summer, Wenger’s only signing has been Auxerre forward Yaya Sanogo, who came to North London on a free transfer at the beginning of this month.

Fans have also been left agitated by the loss of Stevan Jovetic to Manchester City and Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli, despite their club being one of the first sides to identify them as potential targets for the summer. Even Wayne Rooney is nowhere close to moving to Arsenal and the club would also have to battle the mighty Real Madrid for the signature of Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, who is unlikely to best sold anyway.

Hence, it would not be a surprise if the other clubs succeed in strengthening themselves, and the Gunners have to remain content with a few relatively unknown ‘French Signings’ at the end of yet another disappointing transfer window which leaves them stagnating in the Premier League.
