There needs to be a "Real Race" with the Best of the Best. I periodally follow F-1 but I got to think that the NASCAR got it over F-1. I mean look at the Car themselves. 192 mph in a car that handles like a brick has got to be harder. The Best driver in the world today Drives NASCAR...Tony Stewart. He has said he would take a F1 ride (when they were here in the States) and give the field a run for their money. Also I've never seen Micheal S. win a IROC race here?
Thoughts? I always wondered what F1 fans thought.
Just another Yank causing Trobule.
Found this, which I`d not heard of before. .....
Which goes to show that there`s few new ideas - someone has usually thought of it, or something like it, before.
I think a modern NASCAR would get close without the restrictor plates Nigel. They already do 200mph in to the turns with the plates which cuts of a huge amount of air into the carb. From a hole the size of a grapfruit to four holes the size of a grape. That is a huge amount of air and cuts the HP by about 200
Impressive, thanks for the links, Nigel. I hadn`t seen those before.
From what`s been said on other posts here I was starting to wonder if I was cracking up & we weren`t talking about F1 cars at all.
It was the banking that I thought may be the problem with the F1 car, their not being designed for the load of going round a banked oval.
I would guess fairly significant amendments would be needed which would impact performance potential but it would certainly be a sight worth seeing if they could do it.
Here you can see a Honda F1 all trimmed back and they hit 413 KPH (256.7 MPH).
So on an Oval like Talladaga with it's steep banking (32 degree's) would prove interesting. Rusty Wallace holds the all time lap record (in a flying brick .. opps NASCAR) at 236 MPH. So what a F1 car could do can be left to the imagination!
Here they are on the salt flats ... 397 KPH (146 MPH)
Don`t worry Carlos, unless you are also posting as "onlyme", I wasn`t taking the moral high ground with you.
No, saying I like Ferrari is true not abuse. I agree there is too much politics in F1.
Please forgive me, I did nt realise that saying you may like ferrari was abuse. Obviously I was wrong. And please do not take the moral high ground. As I have stated, nascar is racing, F1 is politics. I can only see F1 going down with the latest scandal involving Renault. This is my main concern, not teams, I just want fair, honest ish racing. Not tuning in to watch a motorised version of the house of commons. I hope that this post has been intellegent enough for you.
Like I say, I`m not the best to ask, Nigel, knowing so little about NASCAR.
I`ll leave aside all the possible problems with load on ovals - is that the spectre of Michelingate I see before me?
The top speed of an F1 car is over 300kph but the average lap is considerably less. Fiorano is about 180-190 kph. So I`m not sure F1 cars would be able to reach anything like the speed you imagine on an oval ..... but there`s bound to others here who will be able to answer with more certainty & more knowledge.
