I understand that this site is administered from Europe, but PLEASE stop refering to this weekend's race as the "American" GP - it is the United States Grand Prix - "America" is an entire continent encompassing Canada, USA, Mexico and a host of other countries all the way town to the tip of South "America", including the site of the third "American" GP in a little country called Brazil ....
Of course, we could refer to all of the next series of races as the "European" GP ... but this would be a little confusing, maybe!
Look up the word America and you will see that it both a continent and a country within that continent.
I have travelled extensively in the continent of America and I can tell you that only the population of the USA refer to themselves as Americans. Canadians, Mexicans, Brazilian etc; all refer to themselves but their Country’s name. As do Americans, they leave of the first two, (descriptive words). Hence Americans.
Look at the rest of the word people from The Democratic Republic of the Congo do not refer to themselves as Drcians, nope the call themselves Congolese and their country the Congo.
I could go on and on!
If people in the USA subscribed to your theory would be Usaians, try saying it!
So stop being so pedantic, we know what we are talking about and so do you.
