this does not need to be judged on just goalscoring some people must remember callaghan playing for liverpool and what about keegan who was bought for 35,000 from scunthorpe john toshack is another one its just about not who is the greatest but who the fans liked as a goalscoring partnership
and its just a bit of fun till the internationals are over
Its a good point, and I think on another thread today we've already mentioned how stats alone cannot tell the story as the game has changed so much over the years.
For me Dalglish will always be my ultimate hero. Not just for what he did on the pitch, but what he did for the club as a whole. But as a young kid just learning about football, it was Tosh and Keegan that just have a special part in my heart. Whether it was the commentry "Toshack, Keegan, goal", the way they just knew where each other where on the field, or just the just the memories of a middle aged man thinking back to his childhood, and the idols I worshipped.
I remember being very upset when I heard Keegan was going to Hamburg, and worried as I'd never heard of Dalglish at that point, and thought the end was near. How wrong I was. Guess each generation will have its memories, and its these that create hero's. I know my niece worships Crouchy, and I'm sure kids today will be looking back 20 or 30 years from know debating how Gerrard stacks up against the true greats of Anfield. Who knows, I'm, sure Torres right now is burning a memory for a young 7 or 8 year old red, and really that's what its all about.
