Kuyt out for several weeks....opportunity for Babel

Who's that? Your Mexican poker team?

    • Would rather see Pacheco given a chance than Babel. If you can run fast and have good physical attributes it doesn't mean you're good at football. Look at Agbonlahor for proof. Pacheco has ten times more potential than Babel.

      Johnson, Carra, Agger, Aurelio
      Poulsen, Meireles
      Maxi, Gerrard, Pacheco

Cole is still out for Brum

      • Im almost certain the team to face Birmingham will be:
        Johnson Carragher Agger Koncheskey
        Poulsen Meireles
        Maxi Gerrard Jovanovic

I think its the team I would start with as well. Aurelio must be really unfit at the moment. Its ironic that we dont sign a new striker then lose Ngog and Kuyt whilst away on internationals. I am expecting impact roles from Babel and Pacheco.

      • Pacheco will def get more minutes and more chances, though I wouldn't say that he has 10 times more potential than Babel. Babel was purchased as one of the hottest players in all of Europe and gotten very little positives or consistency working under Rafa. He has plenty of potential that hasn't been unleashed, and he's only 23, plus he has experience @ lw with speed to burn and a great shot. Right now, I think he offers much more than Jova.

Maybe Babel, if he earns it, should get that spot to help him continue to build confidence after his Europa goal. I can see Pacheco coming on for him, or filling a more natural position as cf behind Torres. For the $ and players given, I'd think Konchesky will be starting. Maybe something like this is possible @ BHC:

        Glen Carra Agger Konchesky
        Maxi Meireles Gerrard Babel

I personally think going to a place like Birmingham where they pride themselves on playing such tight defense and scalping the "big" teams, we should counter with an offensive philosophy and I think Meireles is capable of providing defensive support along with Gerrard. I'd rather go there attacking, going for a lead, rather than playing their game and fighting for a draw or even catch up for a point. This is a very big game.
**Fingers crossed for Torres and all the other guys in tomorrow's stupid friendlies...
