Insight to Henry's Perception of all this..

I really never thought that when we ended the season last year at the top of the form table, showing that if we had a few more games, could have achieved 4th spot, that things would be the way they are now.. Having said that, I didn't invest millions and so I can say it's even harder for Henry to believe this.. Seeing how they operate season in and out here for many years, I'm sorry to say, this could very well be..

Direct quote from someone within FSG:
"John Henry doesn't need to be a football expert to know that some of the signings, such as Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing, have not worked out," admitted one Fenway source.

"Champions League football is the priority and defeats to QPR and Wigan are not results a top-four team should be recording. John Henry is not shy to pull the trigger."

    • makes sense. I'm sure they'll be looking at everything. As far as the failed signings (I've never heard of 3 all in one go) I'm also sure thay'll look at it fom all angles including the money they paid for them and who was responsible for setting up those deals. They certainly weren't Moneyball.

It's sad but I have to say and agree that Kenny's position will be scrutinised. I just hope it doesn't signal the return of Benitez although that may keep Armchair quiet for a little while. He's been in full rant mode these last couple of days

      • I've only put Benitez as an option until the end of the season.. However judging by the comment it would seem they're gonna see the season out with Kenny in charge then look at the situation.

If the brief was get 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th.. then we've failed dismally and KD should go.

        As it's unlikely we're gonna.

Frankly I dunno who to bring in?

Rikjaard is one such option who may do well here?

Downing, Henderson, Carroll have been hugely disappointing and expensive..

Also if it's FSG's plan to replicate their management setup at LFC that'll take some time to adjust .. if they're aiming to copy Boston Red Sox's setup..

Yes I do believe the reason why RB failed is cos if the H&G scumbags.

Maybe he'd do better under FSG?.

      • It was the complete opposite of their moneyball approach, which is why it all shocked me then, and doesn't have me so utterly surprised now..

It makes me scratch my head that they brought in Comolli to be the director of player transactions and scouting, yet they went no further then a few hundred miles around the country with their signings, when the man is fluent in French with many connections there, in Spain and other countries/leagues.

I have to really, REALLY question who sanctioned all of these moves considering the players he was involved with bringing to Spurs, Essou Ekotto, Modric, Bale, Krancjar, Sandro...

Now that Henry and co., have a full year and half under their belt watching us, the league, other leagues and the Champions League, I think it's fair to say they will assess this very harshly at year's end and do whatever's necessary to rectify it and ensure this isn't replicated again since obviously more money needs to be layed out..

    • Fire!!! John Henry Fire!!!

    • Jason, I think it’s fair to say you most likely know more than most on here about the mentality of the American sports owner, so based on the quotes you've put up Dalglish might be on thin ice.

But, and I do think you've been following the game long enough to know at least a little bit about the English press (The Daily Mail is far from the NY Times), and how reliable un-attributable quotes are.

I'm not saying your quotes are not true, but anything a sports writer for an English newspaper puts in quotes but cannot put a name next to that quote, you should always take with a pinch of salt, and for the tabloids, slightly more than a pinch. Put it this way, do you think there are many Daily Mail sports writers burning shoe leather around Fenway, or do you think it’s more likely a hack on a mobile picking up rumors while he's downing a pint an hour before deadline in a fleet street pub?

      • I don't want to be over speculative over who said what or where the quote came from, if in fact at all, but only because of how I've seen things done over here for a very long time, do I think there's a seriousness about it.

I'm not saying he's going to get the sack, especially because while not anyone's overall target, we could still win the FA Cup and even with an incredible amount of luck finish 6th. If that was the case then I think it swings everything around, and I know 7th place is splitting hairs so I'd think they could see that as an oversight but nothing worse..

Anyways, I do personally believe 100% that Henry's ultimate goal is to attain Champions League, win that and win the league, not necessarily in that order and so if things carry on the way they are now through the end of the year with only the CC to show for it, that's just my personal belief that the "inside source" is more or less spot on, and again that does not necessarily mean the sack, but not ruling it out either..

Far as the English media and papers go, I pay almost no mind to any of it except for a few respected sources at Sky, BBC and/or when I see a club source, player, or agent give a direct quote, and even then I'm cautious unless what's being talked about makes sense on several levels. IE - Gaston Ramirez being a strong rumor to join, being Uruguayan, young, not overly expensive and having a preference for England.. vs anything that says Eden Hazard... so on, so forth.. some things aren't worth your time..
