Don't really think there's much smoke screen, and it's absolutely possible for BR to sign someone at least some of us have never heard, though not as likely in January I'll concede..
Gomis, who I started with, was something I'd seen over here in French and asked a friend to translate it. Very good player, no idea if the French media speaks a word of truth. Wilfried Bony, it seems it's 100% truth that there's interest and dialogue both ways.. who gets him (many suitors) is anyone's guess..
For Sturridge and Walcott, both are injured, both are never ending persistent names. I'd say over here, Walcott is the one seeming to be the more likely, if there's any truth. Another layer to Sturridge aside from injury and probably costing more, is would Roman sell him our way? We're not directly competing with them, but over the past 2 years, we've been a handful and thorn in their side. Rafa loves Liverpool, but perhaps he fancies Sturridge, perhaps not, perhaps he holds some ill will for never getting an interview with us this summer?
To answer on Borini, they said sometime early February. He's working on all his cardio and leg strength, but won't be doing any real type of football running/action until Jan probably. I think it was fracture on top of his foot, so one wrong step or rough challenge and it could just crack again. And before anyone follows this up w slating him, leave him alone.. he can't be bad when he's not playing..
As for the window, I think we need a quality, attacking, winger who can score and create just as much as a striker, so for me 1 of each please.
If you look at Swansea last year and their goals/assists.. Graham, Gylfi, Sinclair, Dyer.. Compared to ours now Suarez and Sterling, 11 combined.. not enough. Swans this year, with by in large part the same team, only adding in Michu and Pablo, ... Dyer, Pablo, Routledge, Michu and Graham.. alot of chances for goals from several..
To supplement my theory on the winger, if anyone was to slate any player, I'm actually surprised it's not Assaidi. His recent showings have been late minute cameos and not that impressive and he's not even getting himself in the squad for the league, so we have Sterling who is young, promising but not much end product yet, Suso who is more a cutting in, sit in the hole type, and then Downing/Enrique and Cole.. Not good enough..
Just to throw this out there, since he's played maybe 1 minute all season, perhaps we could approach City for Sinclair, get involved for 4-5M they paid since Mancini clearly has no use for him, and he must be miserable with his choice.
Adding potentially Ince and Sinclair would be really nice for the wide areas, and then let's say Walcott..
All could be done under 30M, and tremendously upgrade for now and allow us to really push hard towards the top and then show the owners Rodgers knows what's what and allow him to spend much bigger in the summer
I thought I'd heard somewhere it was December for Borini (at least back in training) but that is two of you saying late Jan into Feb, so I'll take your word on it. Fact is you just don't rush a break, its fixed when its fixed, and not point trying to rush it.
Personally I don't get into the guessing game of who might or might come anymore. I never got to the level of research you obviously do, but to be honest it can do your head it sometimes as you chase your tail if you try and track down even half the stories out there. But I am interested in what type of player we might be going for based on what I think we need.
On that front it seems many think we need at least maybe two strikers, but I’m not as convinced. We do need a backup for Suarez and or cover for Borini especially if he is going to be out until at least February. We do need more goals however, although a stat I heard BR say the other day shocked me that we had tied or gone past already the number of players in the squad who have actually scored. I know only Suarez is scoring on a regular basis, but a lot of players already in the squad can and half put it in the net, we just need them to do it more often.
So the attacking wide player/winger might be the right call, but to be honest I’m not 100% sure of this as we’re already well stocked on players who can play wide. If one or two leave then they’ll need replacing, but not sure if anyone really will leave. Downing looked a certainty, but he seems to have come back into favor, and to be fair has not done badly his last few outings. Cole I’m sure we’d like off our books because of the amount we pay him vs. what he actually provides, but wanting someone gone, and actually getting someone to pick up his contract are two different things.
But another way to look at things is to think about what we were going for in late August but never actually got. We never got a replacement for Carroll, but we don’t know who the target actually was. We assume Sturridge but no one outside the club knows for sure. But what does seem obvious is that we were in for Dempsey, but he is neither a striker nor a winger, but he is a threat for goals. So is that the type of player we go for? For me it’s not about the so called position a player plays, but whether he’s got goals in his boots, and is he flexible enough to cover multiple positions based on our needs. That is who we should be going for. Who it is I don’t know, but I’ll let you do a little research so you can tell me!
JASON...Dont think the club should entertain buying Walcott not at any price even a bargain bin one...he wants a high salary and hes too injury prone havent we bought enough injury prone duds this last year or two...Aquilani Cole Borini and sorry to have to say this Enrique and Andy C...THINK ITS TIME TO BUY IN A FEW WHO CAN MANAGE TO STAY OFF THE INJURED LIST FOR A WHILE

Like I've said a few times, he's not my first choice, probably not amongst my top 5... well, considering we have a suggested budget, I suppose 5th at best, but for me, it's not so much his injuries, because aside from this one which seems a little knock or slight strain, I can recall 1-2 serious ones, perhaps broken leg?
That aside, one thing I need to point out about Borini, and I know your his biggest detractor and not a fan, so not aimed at you, but apparently, he had been carrying the fracture in his foot for a while after a trip with Italy, and then worsened it when returning to Liverpool after another Int'l trip that was meaningless. I think he's had nothing but rotten luck and not much support to boot, but from what I saw of him as a Serie A watcher, is his pace and strength.. I didn't follow Roma close enough to say he's injury proof, but also being 21 doesn't help for young strikers.. Alexandre Pato could (could still do) have been an all time great, and he literally cannot last 45 mins for Milan, fortunately he's 23.. Torres for all his brilliance almost always had to be wrapped in wool and now he looks fit as a horse and only recently playing like a striker.. So, I think Borini can do better physically, and hopefully where it counts with the ball.
But it's got me to thinking.. Our squad has maintained a pretty good record with regards to injuries in the "niggle" and "strain" categories, aside from a couple who are routine offenders like Glen, Agger and previously Gerrard. Lucas was as a result of probably over doing it on his knee, and up til this season, Enrique has been a horse. So, overall alot of our players seem to be very very physically fit, and not even just this year so far, most of last year, again excluding the regular cottons. So, just makes me wonder why Arsenal always have these problems such Cesc, Nasri, Diaby, Sagna, Vermaelen, Walcott and we don't...
This isn't really a compelling case for Walcott as a player, but just something to consider, since at the moment, suspensions aside, it seems we have players in Suarez, Skrtel, Allen, Henderson, Gerrard (now) even young Sterling that can run for days.. We must have something good going in the physio dept..
