    The reality..

Colin, I think maybe you only skimmed my post because you did not seem to pick up on some important points of why just putting up an 80K seat stadium is unrealistic, so let me spell them out individually.

Planning permission: we only ever had this for 60K, 80K will require major local infrastructure improvements that the council is unwilling/unable to fund

Cost vs. Benefit: After accepting the first point 60K while a realistic number to fill each match, revenue from just 15,000 extra seats is only about 20M per year which barely covers the financing charge needed to fund the build

Reality Check 2: It’s not about the number of seats; it’s about the revenue per seat. Ours is currently about 900 per seat, while Chelsea is over 1600 per seat per season. It's not just about the number of seats, it’s about getting the most out of what we have, which is exactly what FSG is looking to do.

Reality Check 2: Really you think we can fill a 90K stadium for every home match? That is 90,000 for a FA cup 3rd round home tie against league 1 opponents, or a midweek league cup replay against a championship side with all tickets sold at the same price as the home game against Utd. Because that is what you have to do if you want to bring in the numbers you’re proposing.

Bottom line this is not a black and white question of whether we should only view things through a spreadsheet or PowerPoint, versus only considering the passion that is football. Both have to be considered. That means you do dream bigger, you do go big, but you find a way to actually do it that is based in reality. We all want to live in the Sofa world with a 120K stadium and a squad filled with the best players in the world as if we were playing PlayStation, but common sense tells us that is not realistic.
