Liverpool Message Board
Loki...I took some stick on this board for quite some time for my open criticism of Reina...now do u think some of the regulars onthis board might FINALLY be agreeing this guy is last.
BTW never saw him as a good shot stopper the man has NEVER dominated his area certainly notthis last two seasonsand if u look at my posts from this last two weeks u will see I have repeatedly criticised his POSITIONING.
We must NOT under any circumstances let UniTURD have their way and sign Begovic for a song price rumoured to e 9 mill we must get into a bidding war for this keeper !

maybe we can sell Reina to Chelski, the Russian oligarch has a soft spot for paying premium to Liverpool having signed up Torres & Benitez and wanting Gerrard. Reina going to Chelsea would be the icing on the cake to finish off Chelsea.
I think your right Colin, every keeper has a shelf life I'm afraid and Reina's been here 7 year's nearly and I've not seen him as injured or out of sorts. Everybody raised an eye when we let Clemence go but again it was right and Brucie then gave us something else.
What about a swap deal with Victor Valdes and a bit of cash to us on top?
I posted this on a different thread, but I do think we should be cautious over Riena. I know he's made too many mistakes of late, and there is no defending the clanger he dropped yesterday; however can anyone really fault what he did for the other 89 minutes?
The main thing to say is that Riena is, was, and will remain for a number of years from now, a top keeper. He is not perfect, but few if any are. The question is why is he making mistakes, and will they likely to continue if he stays with us?
Now maybe his head has been turned by talk of Barca and he's already out the door, in which case we better be looking for a replacement. But if not, I'm not sure we as supporters should be trying to push him all the way through the door. I'd hate to see the best years of Pepe Reina happen without a liverbird on his chest.

Sorry Dave I've got to disagree. We are now into the third season where Reina's standards have been less than the exemplary ones he set in his first 5 years.
It's hard to put my finger on, but he just doesn't seem .....focused. He was winning us points at the beginning of his career with us, but now that situation is reversed totally, and it's not a one off blip in form.
I have said before, no matter the player, whether new or a veteran, should be permitted 2 poor seasons. Pepe has had more than that on reputation, but I don't care how well you've done in the past, it's only what you do now that matters (or rather this season and last). To illustrate, where there many dissenters when Torres went. We could all see his head was elsewhere and I see the same thing in Reina.

I have never rated him as a great all round keeper. Shot stopping yes, he´s good but, positioning and control of his box plus dealing with crosses? Useless, my heart´s in my mouth at every set piece. Time we got a better. He cost us a fine win today!
I completely agree.
I've always thought Reina to be a decent keeper, but this season he's just not been the same.
I don't know if he's just bored playing for us, is intentionally f**king up so we can sell him and replace him, or something along those lines.
He's cost us a few times this season, not that we'd necessarily have won every one of those games, but even a draw is better than a loss.
I know keepers are only human and even Joe Hart had a blip, but Reina has had like 6+ howlers this season.
He just doesn't look interested.
That midweek game vs Arsenal, that Walcott shot, I'm not saying he could have saved it, since it was a bullet of a shot, but atleast make an effort to get to it...
For what it's worth, I said he did play much better at Arsenal.
As for the other issues, despite being one of my favorite players, he's been in bad form an dropped as a wakeup call, but in that play, Skrtel is chasing down the much faster, skilled Aguero, and has him in a decent position to where that ridiculous shot goes well over him, Reina and into the net. Nobdoy was stopping that besides the goalie, who wasn't in his net. Skrtel didn't start the match, so that's his punishment already. He actually comes out of CB to the left at the same time does Reina, and raises his hands in confusion and retreats to the goal to cover it, with no chance.. He's got no choice there and in "no man's land".. replay below..
I agree on the Agger part, though seeing him stretched at full length, it was a pin point cross, and he just didn't mark Dzeko's run, but if we're going to point him out, then we have to ask why did Glen let Silva inside of him so easily, and highlighted many times on the tv and replays here, Carra was caught at the top the of the box, and obvisously does not have the type of pace to regain that ground so quickly to stop it either. First goal, good play by City, bad defending by Liverpool.
Second goal, we can play Skrtel, doesn't matter how much I like the guy, because there wasn't anything he could do, and if he's part of the blame, then Agger is too, jogging back.
I think this is giving all too many other players alot more to do, with something that they couldn't prevent without a foul, or basically where it shouldn't be in question.. With Skrtel rushing out, raising his arms in confusion, and trying to retreat, I don't know what more he can do?
