    Team to face Wigan?

This has banana skin written all over it, hammered Swansea then put on a great show before a long period of rest, Wigan are coming into their 'special' time of the season and gave a resurgent Reading a real drubbing on the weekend. The positives of course are Chelsea and Everton losing this weekend whilst Arsenal will face Spurs. Gerrard will not be throwing the towel in, Suarez wants the golden boot, Sturridge is fit and trying to impress whilst their is plenty of hunger there in Coutinho making a name and players like Downing, Hendo and Allen still trying to convince their recent form isn't an accident.

Here is what I and I suspect most, would go with!

Subs: Jones, Skrtel, Wisdom, Allen, Henderson, Sterling, Assaidi

    • It will be interesting to see if Skertl gets back into the starting line up, it will have to happen at some point. Martin Kelly must be hoping that that position is still open when he gets back. I like Kelly.

I thought Henderson had a dismal game against Zenit, although he was stuck out on the left for most of the match (WHY???!!). It could be important to get him back in the staring line up to keep him momentum going. Also a strong shout for Assaidi to play, and I would love to see Suso alongside Suarez and Coutinho.

A bit lob sided but when we play well the position are fluid anyway.

    • I'd pretty much agree with that line up, and while Coutinho is still maybe a little of an unknown factor, recon that looks like our best starting 11.

But I'd also agree with you that this is a potential banana skin, so we'd better take it very seriously. We really slipped in the run in last season, and maybe the focus on the cups was our downfall, and while we were up for the tough cup challenges like the home and away leg against City, we over looked matches like this one in the league. My worry is that there will be a hangover from the Zenit game, and with 4th really gone, it will be hard to get everyone focused.

      • I think everybody will be fully focussed the more I think about it. So many players have so much still to prove and I think at 10 points with 11 games to go, there is still interest if not a strong chance of clawing it back. If Arsenal were to win at Spurs and Chelsea were to slip to a draw with WBA, a win over Wigan going into our Spurs/Chelsea matches could be pivotal. Obviously, there is more chance of us not winning those 3 games then winning them but the carrot is definitely there. 10 points can turn to 3/4 very quickly as we well know!

        Yours massively hopefully optimistically
