    Lucas must start!

    1) We are only playing in one competition
    2) We invariably get bullied in the middle when Allen plays
    3) Lucas' return to fitness has coincided with an upturn in results
    4) Always play your best team
    5) Skrtel playing was another head scratcher
    6) Dont rotate for rotation's sake! That was the thing that drove me nuts about Rafa!

    • You made some very valid points which are difficult to disagree with. I can't help thinking that Lucas hasn't recaptured his form of 2 ago but surely that will come with a run of games - whats the back up plan for the holding midfielder role? Joe Allen is far too lightweight to make a contribution to the team and I was astounded by his price tag (Brendan are you serious?) Skrtel has dipped in form steadily over the same period and there are too many errors in his game - his performance against the Oldham Athletic player was a damning indictment of this. I am worried about the spine of the team which we could once rely upon - even Reina is no longer his commanding best and perhaps seeks a fresh challenge. We need to invest wisely over the Summer, something that a Liverpool manager has not really done for several years - theres been too many bad buys - for every xavi Alonso there has been a Josemi.

      • I've mentioned this elsewhere but the form of Allen and Lucas is not the only midfield issue. We're not tight enough in there. Look at Southampton's third goal. Where was our midfield? It certainly wasn't where it should have been. Completely scattered to the 4 winds. Our back 4 were also way too deep opening up the space even more.

When we (or any team for that matter) play well we are tight and compact in the middle, particularly when you're only playing 3 in there. The team front to back is also compact. We were spread over 70 yards on Southampton's thrid goal.

Players need to wake up, play with their heads and put some effort in. Gerrard is losing it in my opinion and needs to play in a deeper role. He cant play the marauding midfielder in this system without the cover behind.
