I don't think AW has the problem to spot good talent but the price is always the problem... and every time we spotted someone, the next thing is they said they want to go Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Chelsea, MU etc. which they praised those clubs like heaven... but at the end of the day, they went there for the money only... one thing funny happened last season, Saha and Smith love to go MU so much but ended up in the bench... if MU were to sign Owen, these 2 r going to sit on the spectator seat...

I am not sure if there is any players out there reading this but if u think by moving to those rich clubs can make u richer, do consider the risk for not able to play 1st team football, then cannot shine in World Cup/Euro/Copa America/CL/UEFA Cup etc. which decrease the chances of getting something money can't buy...

hi, I believe Wenger has made the biggest mistake of his Arsenal managership, he sold too old Veira thinking that the signing of Baptista was a formality, now that it is obvious that will not take place, he has panicked and turned to an old age has been Guti to replace him, a player of same age as too old Veira, but a player who could not tie Veiras boots. I think and believe this is the start of the end for a great manager.

who would you put as striker? Bergkamp? Reyes? I am not sure it would suit Henry to play on front on his own

Selling Vieira is a huge mistake?

Selling Vieira is a huge mistake?

    by A Yahoo! User Jul 15, 2005 04:51

Vieira is and always will be an Arsenal legend, helping us to many trophies. last season he had a poor season, we only looked solid in midfield when Gilberto Da Silva returned from injury to take midfield by the scruff of the neck. I feel the future of Arsenal's midfield is already in the team in Fabregas. He looks uncomfortable on the wing and when paired with Vieira he was still a square peg in a round hole. However, with the defensive capabilities of Gilberto at the back of central midfield and fabregases skills going forward we can have a formiddable force. Toure is another option. He has possibly been the best utility player I've ever seen, capable at the front, good in midfield and beyond reproach in defence.

The sale also frees up cash to make a fresh approach for Baptista - who has admitted he wants to join Arsenal (Sevilla are holding out for more cash).

Vieira wasn't the heartbeat of the team last season, it is unlikely that he would have been this season either, his style of play (as Tony Adams, Alex Fergusson and Roy Keane have stated) means his career would be shortlived if he stayed in the premiership, for our game is too physical and too "full-on". It certainly took it's toll as we saw last season. Italy will suit him and I hope he does well with the slower, more methodical consciencious football they play there.

Arsene knows his stuff. Have faith.

Signin Ballack & Arsenal in general

    by A Yahoo! User Jul 19, 2005 23:25

    2 sold,1 bought,4 needed.....

    by Mikx... Jul 21, 2005 21:01

i think the best person to replace viera is papa diop(fulham) and the centre back is Distin(Manchester City). The goalkeeper is Jascalnen(Bolton) and striker is Dafoe(Totemham)

is arsene relying on youth too much?

    by rob fox Jul 24, 2005 09:15

I agree with what your saying. We definitely need a good young keeper and i'm still unsure why hes failed to give some of the youth keepers a fair crack. Taylor needed games and Stack needs experience but yet he goes for second rate imports(Lehmann & Aluminia).Surely Taylor on the bench would have been better.I think the Viera situation had a lot to do with the player. Lets be fair his heart didn't look in it as much as previous seasons and his knees keep giving him problems.I think while ever the players hearts are in it and not purely money motivated there'll always be a place in the squad. Just look at Bergy.Maldini is the player he is purely for the love he shows and recieves in Milan.I doubt very much that Wenger wants to lose such experienced players(for any price)but any player who pulls on the shirt or has the crowd chanting there name should want to stay and achieve as much as possible with us.I agree that 20m would have been a better price but i think there was more to this than meets the eye.I hope he doesn't continue to offload older players otherwise as you say there will be no one left to fetch the younger players through. I agree we definitely need more experience throughout the squad but I hope he proves his decision right.

Are Arsnal going through a transtion period?

    by faircritic Aug 5, 2005 04:52

we r patient but at the same time we keep our finger cross... in another word, we prepare for the worst but hope for the best... the ball is round and anything can happen... Chelsea is not as bullet proof as they thought also... Liverpool and Man City finished them last year...

  • Anyone got any good nicknames for teams. Its about time we gave other teams new names to reflect their current standings. For example who do you think the Commets, the Henmans, the Conservatives, the Glazers and the Toy Pandas are?
The Commets - Chelsea - coz a title is as frequent at the bridge as a visit from Hayleys Comet
The Henmans - Spurs - Coz like Tiger Tim at wimbledon they start the competition believing they will win it only to loose early on and blame it all on injuries or the grass
The Conservatives - Charlton - like the Torries they think they are big players but when Europe is mentioned they divide and go to pieces
The Glazers - Man U - not coz of their new owners but for two other reasons. They need to call in the glazers to fix all the windows Van Misery breaks aimining for goal and also to fix those rose tinted glasses sir alex wears
The Toy Pandas - Newcastle - they are black and white and as soon as they are played with they come apart at the seams and they very reluctant mates which leads to a distinct lack of scoring

Anyone else come up with some better ones?

Daily Star: Alex Song Join Arsenal

    by aun a Aug 11, 2005 02:57

if he really does that, then we r in big trouble...

  • I have no suggestion like buying Essin,Owen or Gerrad. We don't have to use that much money to get back our vitory. Man U offer only 7.5 mil for Ballack.

One thing about football clubs didn't buy a player over 26 year old is here. Ok..After using him 3 years, His pirce will down. They don't want to lost money. That's it.

They didn't play the football. They play the biz. According to Freddie interview, seem like even AW didn't know Viera would sell out. Back from David Dein Europe trip, Juvi Chairman follow and negotiate about Veira. Veira never mention about going to Juvi. From my point of view, I have no sorry for Veira but only for out of best playing style. Nobody can't hide without Viera we have hard time on the pitch.
Now we don't have time to find another good player. Why he didn't demand 13 mil and a player like Mutu. Don't give any excuse Mr.Dein. Next year, Veira price will down. This is the only reason. I believe if AW know that ,he won't let Edu go.

I'm really dissapointed about Arsenal Chairman. He made the problem like Ashly, Edu, Bergkemp's contract. About Ashly he said Loyalty. There is no Loyalty in professional football. He sold out Veira because of age. He didn't offer 3 year for Edu and Lauren. He make the rule over 30 year player be offered only 1 year contract. Listen our heros Bergkamp words. "he has 2 kids, He need to plan his future, club didn't decide his future yet." Where is loyality??? Dein make money for himself. I didn't look down Ashly. When he turn to 30 years old, He will be sold out like Veira. So he has to save the money for the rest of his life. Ashly love money like David Dein and another biz man. So What? Even David Dein didn't love AFC as we love. I can guess his class is no different with Mouriho and Peter Keyon.
Only because of AW and some player I still coming here.
Now David Dein will learn Name and Prestige are more value than 13.7 mil.
(sorry about my language ,I'm suffer from losing best playing)

  • I am a loyal Arsenal fan, ever since I was 5. that's a long time. In this time I have always admired my fellow Arsenal fans for not being typical football yobs, or panicking at the beginning of each season. Arsenal fans are loyal but pretty laid back. but this summer has scared me, it seems we have so few fans trusting one of the greatest teams in history. how many times we been relegated? exactly.

i look on these message boards and see 'get rid of dein', 'wenger hates british players' and 'lets sign ballack'. what the fudge is goin on guys!?
absolute bollox, thats whats going on.

dein gives us cash to buy great players, hleb, reyes, van persie etc. true his heart may not be in it for anything other than money but thats the same with all chairmen. they want the money back they spend.
i didn't want viera to go, i thought he was awesome. but statistically we did worse when he played. so we move on.
it was a real shame about baptista, but he never wanted to come to england. and as for ballack people who think he's right for arsenal have been playin too much fifa or pro evo on their playstations. he ain't all that. i hope that we sign another couple of players. we need a keeper, another centre back, a def midfielder and maybe a striker. but we can't expect to get all the most famous players in the world to come here. wenger needs to strengthen, he knows that, and hopefully he will. he is right that english players are over priced. 21mil for swp? he's great, and i wish he went to arsenal, but can chelsea explain why they spent 21m on someone who'll play only half their games? no. he won't flourish there, like he was at man city. in 2 summers chelsea will sell him for 10mil.

anyone know anythin about viera(keeper), m.diarra, christianval and other players we were supposed to be signing?

one more thing, i'm havin real trouble understanding messages left by other fans. i know some of you are panicking, but would it hurt you to check what you've wrote? no offence intended. if you're an arsenal fan you're clearly a quality person though.

just relax a little everyone, no matter how much we panick, it will have no affect on what real happens, lets stay loyal to out team and true to our fellow fans.
