what players should arsenal buy for next season

    by john Jun 9, 2005 00:03

Hello everyone. I've been a loyal Arsenal supporter for the last 11 years. I believe these are the players that will do well for Arsenal:

    GK: 1. Maarten Stekelenburg (Dutch) - Ajax - 23 yrs -
    Excellent keeper; OR
    2. Jan Lastuvka (Czech)- Shaktar Donetsk - 23 yrs -
If you think Petr Cech is good, this guy is
    better!!! Excellent reflexes.

Def: 1. Nigel de Jong (Dutch)- Ajax - 21 yrs - An
excellent and solid defender, ideal when Campbell
    retires.

    Mid: 1. Stephen Pearson (Scot)- Celtic - 23 yrs - A
tenacious midfielder with pace, passing, dribbling
and crossing, ideal replacement if Pires decides
    to leave.

    Str: 1. Andres D'Alessandro (Arg)- Wolfsburg - 24 yrs - A
tireless attacking forward with pace and vision.
    2. Fernando Cavenaghi (Arg)- Spartak Moscow - 22 yrs - A very good striker with good pace, first touch
and a killer eye for goals! He can be relied upon
    to get the goals.

I agree, i would certainly expext Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool to finish above Man United this season. I'm afraid Man U fans will just have to accept that the time for honouring themselves is over, and to finish any better than 4th in the next coming seasons would be an exceptional achievement.

Not with the likes of Rooney and Ronaldo they didn't. Neither of them can run properly, one has this funny motion with his arms and the other one's belly gets in the way. Arsenal definitely looked better!!

The gunners indeed have been a better side in the last few years. the only team able to match us are chelsea and they had to spend millions before they could do that. we only need the mind of a genius ARSENE WENGER who knows how to pick the best players in the deal. so united fans get over yourself, your glory days are over

    Dear Soccer fans,

As you all know, i've been looking to buy the United's of Manchester for
a little while now. I've also heard that some of you may not be
too happy about me using, sorry, buying the club in order to reach new heights and
also, that I may not be a fan.
Well fear not, as i'm writing this personal letter to let you know that
i'm a genuine fan of you blue devils.
I began rooting for the United's back in 1992 when our little Malcolm JR
was practising those Soccer home runs out in the yard. I loved the way
you turned defence into offence, and the way that Bobby Shearer used to
top half it into the goal bag. Oh man, that play was hot. My son
tells me that you even out-zoned your City rivals Southampton in the 4th quarter
    of the FA World series.
As for your current team, that Rude guy is awesome!!!! I see a
profitable future at the United, with the young talent of Cristiano Rooney (man,
that guy can dance!) and Peter Shilton giving us hope in defeating the
evil Russian tyranny which assaults the freedom of our beloved Soccer.
With the marketing potential of those Neville brothers and that Pearce
dude leading the team, we can all look to acheiving our beliefs of a
better future. Especially when I add Alexei Lalas and Cobi Jones to the
    starting 15.
    Now to you, the fans.
I've been to see the United's play once before, and the respect you pay
your team in silently admiring the play out on the pitch was
overwhelming. Because of this, i've just purchased a new £45
    million
mansion in the Manchester to be close to you guys. And more good news is
i'm planning to add an extra 10,000 seats through corporate boxes
so more genuine blue devils can experience the play.
What's with the prawn sandwiches I had to eat when I was there?
Well, rest assured, it'll be super size prawn baguettes when I take charge.
I can't wait to come over to the Manchester isles, as I love the
country, especially the beaches and the hot chicks.
I hope you can all see my vision of this future, with new shirt sponsors
(Dunkin Donuts) and new team name (The Manchester Gloom) i'm sure things
    are looking bright.
*Further good news for you guys is that i've just agreed a partnership
deal with McDonalds, who will help in promoting the Manchester brand.
This will involve re-naming the stadium to 'McTrafford' as well as
an exciting launch of Manchester Gloom plastic fan toys in every
happy meal. Cristiano Rooney will be the face of this campaign and during this, he
will be marketed globally as Roonald McDonald.
    Catch a wave dudes.
    Regards
    Malcolm

    Arsenal have to sign Ballack!

    by A Yahoo! User Jul 16, 2005 18:55

Signing a player these days doesnt just depend on his football abilities only ,there must be lot of different factors a club manager has to look at in a player before deciding to sign them ie: temperement, willingness to adapt with the new envirement, their chances on integrating with the team players etc, ballack is surely a brilliant player but is he compatible for arsenal style ,is he good humble enough to be ordered around by AW? but only Arsenal know the answer as they see the big picture as we ;fans; we tend to look at the small picture. As for making him a captain in his 1st season in the premiership i think u must have been a senior moment when you suggested that as i think that thierry henry ,sol cambel or lehman are all better placed than him to captain due to their experience within the team and within the premiership other teams and referees. Some players ;despite their high footballing abilities; can be more of a liabilty than an asset.

    Arsenal have to sign Ballack!

    by A Yahoo! User Jul 16, 2005 18:55

I'm afraid i'll be speaking for at least 25% of gooners fans when i tell you that i can't agree with your theories. A midfield with Reyes, Fabregas, Ballack and Hleb? We'll have no ball winners at all then. I'm not sure how people get the impression Ballack is a ball winner because whenever i watch him, he does absolutely nothing in the way of defence. He rarely has a touch in attack, but i will say he has a good eye for goal.

Ljungberg must remain in our midfield because there isn't any one else like him in the world. Who else can you think of when you want a wide midfield player who can knock in 17 goals a season and defend like his life is at stake?

Fabregas is relatively lightweight when it comes to defending and needs a ball winner along side him so he can thread the ball around in the superb way he does. Now Pat has left we have to play Gilberto in this role. He made a world of difference to the amount of goals we conceded towards the end of last season (3 in 14 games).

Hleb will feature instead of Pires, and i have to say, it looks like he will add a hatful of goals to our side which is awesome! As for Ballack though, he won't do anything for us. When he came to Highbury last year he was played of the park by Vieira and all Arsenal fans will agree, Vieira played way below his own standards in that game. We won 1-0 without really playing and it was no testament to Bayern's defence. Had we gone for it like we do in the premiership, we would have beaten Bayern with ease. They had four attacks in Munich and were gifted three appalling goals. So i can't agree with the Ballack theory.

As for our lack of a defensive midfielder as some keep saying, we conceded a lot of goals with the big man playing last year. I think Wenger sees Gilberto as a player who will continue to improve and eventually be a similar style of player to Vieira. We should have kept Edu because he was world class, but we have Fabregas, who will be if he isn't already! Anyway, the gist of it is gooners fans, Chelsea and United won't be thinking we'll be weaker because they already know we can win without Vieira since we did it on numerous occasions last year and when he regularly used to get suspended. Apart from signing Cygan, when did Wenger ever let us down?

The future is bright, it is paved with gold, we already have much gold to spend (more than the club will ever allow the press to know), and we will sign another top class player before the start of the season. Our creative edge has diminished in no way whatsoever and our defence is looking pretty solid (whatever united fans say, you had three meaningful shots in the cup final and never looked like scoring with any of them) so why worry? We can outscore all of our rivals and since we average 2 goals a game, as long as we concede no more than 1, we will keep winning the silverware.

Signin Ballack & Arsenal in general

    by A Yahoo! User Jul 19, 2005 23:25

How can you say we need new defenders wen we have Sol, Toure, Senderos, Cole & clichy?? ok they need organising abit bit since Senderos came in they were gettin alot better & Sol will get better again with match practice. Defence Toure, Sol, Senderous & Cole only weak link is the keeper Jens sometimes i can save the ball Lehmann.
But we do need a preditor in the box to compliment Henry & his skills, and midfield we need someone big and strong to go with what we have.

Back to my starting comment days ago we dont need Cygan as hes CRAP & no one wants him

Signin Ballack & Arsenal in general

    by A Yahoo! User Jul 19, 2005 23:25

i already believe that hleb will prove to fit that role. in his debut the other day he scored and set up goals. on his debut! i think he's lookin good. either guti, dacourt or petit on loan for a season, it would help us and their careers, and then we look forward to the beast! yes arsenal have scored the most goals, which is great. but i don't think that will change, henry, bergkamp, pires, van persie, reyes, ljungberg and now hleb to name most can provide assists and goals. we need a strong tall central midfielder to be there for gilberto to partner. i like the idea of retraining toure to play in defensive midfield, he learns quickly and is very strong. then we'd have senderos and campbell in centre back, which i think would be great. we'd still need some back up though.
what about how many goals we let in last season, arsenal were always famed for their ability to keep clean sheets. it was an embarrasment last season! in football, you always have to work your way from the back first as you strengthen up your team. without viera more people will get through to goal, so we need a keeper.

is arsene relying on youth too much?

    by rob fox Jul 24, 2005 09:15

I think AW has got the mix just right. You can be in the position of clubs like bolton who rely heavily on older experienced players but there player turnover is one of the highest in the premiership. AW has a knack for finding player potential early and shaping them into stars of the future. And the Viera saga was a mutual agreement, AW doesnt give players over 30 more than 1 year extensions, PV wanted more, between them this move was the best solution for all parties. PV gets 5 years at juventus, and AW doesnt lose a star play for no money, remember they only payed about $5m for him, got nine years of great football and sold him for a $7m profit. win-win.
