Barry Bridges graced the ground at St Andrews for a few years around 1967, and was a superb player. He will always be remembered for his overhead scissor kick goal which knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup in 1968 I think it was when Birmingham were an old second division team.
I bumped into him a few years back, he was running a newsagents in Norwich...and he had white hair...
Can't see the problem in Mcleish going to Villa. After all Birmingham got Ron Saunders after he left Villa, and he put Brum back 10 years. Why can't Mcleish repay the compliment ?
Never mind Mike...we have a promotion party to look forward too now. Maybe Jerome will find out that he can score again, and we will love him like another Trevor Francis...who knows!
I know you are are Arsenal supporter, living in Birmingham and I have to say that like Manchester United supporters living anywhere but Manchester, unless you are originally from another area, I cannot understand how you can be an ardent fan of a team from another area ..or country !
Anyway, thats as maybe...when the new owners came in, i am sure they promised £40M not £80M. Now lets analyse this. Big name players bought in also command masive wages which comes out of the pot too, people like Alexander Hleb didnt come cheaply when his bank account is scrutinised. The buck still stays with Mcleish here, he bought the players in..and apart from beating...who was it now?...at Wembley, most of the players used were not those bought in on loan on massive wages , they were keeping the first aid man busy. Money was made available, its more of a question of was it spent...and spent wisely. In the case of Foster...absolutely. In the case of some of the others...absolutely not. Once again, down to Mcleish.
We know all about the Championship though, Lex, and what it takes to get out of it. after all we have managed it three times in ten years.......so expect us back 'toutes suite'..!
Alexander Hleb........Out injured for much of his time.
David Bentley...Only played well for a few minutes in ganmes he featured in . Inconsistant.
Obafemi Martins...Not played since Wigan away,,,will always be remembered for the winner at Wembley, when the truth is, that is all he accomplished.
Matt Derbyshire...never given a run of games to prove himself. If he had started half the games given to Jerome, maybe we would have got two more points and a couple of goals out of him.
Kevin Phillips.........See above comment, ref: Derbyshire.
I personally blame Mcleish. We won the league Cup in spite of Mcleish, not because of him.....and I also blame Mcleish for putting too much faith in Jerome.
No, we shouldnt have gone down Roy...the blame is all Mcleish's.
Alexander Hleb, David Bentley, Obafemi Martins and Matt Derbyshire have already gone.....Larsson is going. Who next ?
Jerome perhaps ? No don't be silly, who would buy a striker who can't score....?
Only us. !
He did last post on 25/04/10 Pikey, but his posting history show's it indeed to be the sad old waster himself, resurrected from the dead, with an unnatural hatred of West Ham and Birmingham City. He has repeated the same informative post on the Sheff U board, West Ham and Chelsea board...proving the point that he is actually no more than an upmarket Hovis van driver with little more intelligence than a copepod.
Shame on you Howy...
Obviously Howy's intelligence is above doubt...Think of a word starting in 'H' and ending in 'A'.........multiply it by 50...and we have an IQ of 8.
Good one Howy....any other views?
I still don't think Ive got over the result on Sunday......despite having already accepted relegation was highly likely, never the less, it still is a bit of a bummer, even till the last 4 minutes of normal times was the expectation trhat we could again pull off another miraculous escape. Those last 4 minures dragged over to seven, Wolves scored meaning we had to win, and then they scored...and with only Jerome up front, that was never going to happen. Dispondant is not the word. I wonder if Jerome is in the record books as a striker who hasnt scored for so long, no one can rememeber the last one?
OK having got that off my chest..... So we are kicking out the kids again are we. Wonder if the retained list is going to be made public, and is McPike going to be the same as Steve Finnan, and Andy Johnson...released for peanuts as not good enough....then going on to become International multi Million pound players ?
You finish where you deserve to finish over 38 games. We were never going to do any good while we continued with someone who has no idea where the back of the net is. The defence is sound....just needs someone to score a goal or two.
NOT ROCKET SCIENCE IS IT?...
We signed the wrong Cardiff player...Chopra was the one I wanted.
bunch of idiots. We threw it away in January...Right lets get the deadwood out now..
Heres my list of those to go this week.
and thats just for a start..
Make Lee Bowyer skipper, and GET A FCUKING FORWARD THAT KNOWS HOW TO FCUKIN SCORE...AND NOT JUST RUN !!!!!
So here we are........The Mcleish last chance saloon. I wonder if he now wishes he'd given Kev Phillips, or even Derbyshire a better shot at it, instead of the almost unbelievable faith in the hopeless Jerome who hasn't scored now for SIX MONTHS !!
I for one am expecting the worst...a trip to Brighton and Hove is a very distinct possiblity now.
Heres an epitaph for Alex as we go through the death thro's..
Oh well, I suppose we have a promotion party to hope for next year.
I can't see it, Busdriver. I think we have ridden to close to the wind this time. at 5:00pm I expect to see us, Blackpool and West Ham getting out our sat Navs to find out the best route to Brighton and Hove Albions ground. I don't like uit, but we should have sorted this weeks ago. Jerome is as responsible for our position. both to go at the end of the season for me.
BTW Pikey...I'll pass the info Tuesday, not before. Let the dust settle first...Relegation has that effect on people.
One thing Mcleish cannot seem to understand is that Jerome is not, has never been, and never will be a Premiership striker (the clue to the word striker lies in the definition "Someone who scores goals"). Mcleish clearly doesn't understand this. Kevin Phillips has scored more goals per minute on the pitch that Jerome has chased lost causes.
Cameron.....? If he keeps scoring, I for one will eat my word's...and award him the Nobel 'Mr Blue Sky' award, Pikey !!
If we had beaten Bolton.....we would have played Stoke. Both games were winnable, and a trip to the final against Manchester ..one of them.
Oh well, never mind. 1 trophy will have to do for this year.
..................a little decorum, peace and quiet has prevailed.
Anyone for a quick game of cards ?.....................................
