Liverpool Message Board
Hi Ron, Colin and Jason, I hope you don't think I was being flippant but I just couldn't imagine Shanks being so negative, it's like Churchill saying "We will fight them on the beaches but don't expect to win !!"
Talk about motivational, I wondered when this statement would be wheeled out !
The old temper expectations so our aspirations aren't too high for next season.
What next, "Hopefully with a bit of luck we'll not find ourselves in a relegation dogfight " FFS !!!
Dave, can I just say what a breath of fresh air it is to read your post's, and Colin's and Andy's as well because sometimes some of the so called rhetoric spouted on here at times makes me wonder whether I'm being wound up !
I've never read such ridiculous statements since everyone of Armchairs posts !!
One thing KK didn't have as I've said before on here, was Lucas all season who surprisingly tied in with our season getting better this year when he came back.
I quote "On the other hand, BR deserves applaud for getting higher position in the league with thin squad and almost no money to bring in players." So one place higher no trophy and no visits to Wembley requires praise does it?
I can't believe people still criticise Downing and Henderson who I feel were 2 of our most consistent players this year. They've both scored more goals, than Wellbeck, Carrick,Nani, Valencia,Giggs and Cleverly who although 3 of these are the future of England and one a striker, that none of these 6 players have scored more than 2 goals !
I know it's in the past now and I hope BR does better next year, but I don't think Kenny was too far away and it's very disrespectful to comment otherwise.
What a shallow t1thead !! Have fun polishing that number six in your bulging trophy cabinet !
What you gonna celebrate next, getting a kiss off your Mum cos you've finished your tea like a big boy or that you've learnt to breathe in and out without anyone helping you!
The thing that occured to me Dave / Colin, as I watched Sturridge decimate Fulham with his 11th goal since January, is again this blinkered obsession with Manure.
Can somebody please explain to me how Danny Welbeck, 2 goals all season, get's into the 2013 PFA young player team and Sturridge doesn't even get a thought even though 11 goals half a season?
It's the same with the England set up, when will an England manager pick someone on credit rather than a misconception because of the team he plays for?
Totally agree Dave, I think a lot of Manure fans will be secretly wondering what happens next though.
Liverpool's success was passed on seamlessly by 4 managers without a hiccup, which to me is the definition of a true dynasty. I know you have to congratulate them for their success, but it's all been under Fergie. I'm hoping, and I think it is a definate possibility, that this is the end for Manure as dominant force because Moyes definately isn't a second Fergie !!
Tau, I agree it has been a season of 2 halves, but I think the real reson for this was due to the comeback of Lucas. No one can deny that he makes the difference and if I can just bang on about KK again he didn't have Lucas for all of last season, so what would that season have been like?
If we want to look at segments of seasons, then what about KK's return in the 2nd half of that season, by all accounts our form in that 2nd half we would have won the PL !!
So to be fair in my opinion Lucas is the main factor in our progress and to be honest I don't feel him and Allen should be on the pitch at the same time !
Sorry mate couldn't disagree more. As my previous ID on here as disappeared due to this shyte new board, nevertopthekop_18_5, people will hopefully remember my biased views that KK is the man and I think the guy who has posted this post, rrichards,is perfectly spot on.
We've basically got David Brent as a manager trying out all what he thinks are "new age" management styles with his fecking 3 envelopes etc etc that I was doing in business management training 20 odd years ago !
Like the guy said he is not saying or doing anything new, it's just that most people who support LFC haven't seen it since KK was last in charge doing it the Liverpool way, YES I said KK as I disagree that it was Joe Fagan who last had a plan, it's not as though KK was there first time around as a caretaker manager.
He managed for 4 years winning 3 titles, 2 FA cups, 1 League Cup, and 4 Charity Shields !! Was that purley by chance then?
He's have probably won the European Cup as well if we were in it because the side he built with Beardsley , Barnes, Aldridge and Houghton was probably one of the most entertaining I have ever seen. I agree about Souness etc, but the wheels fell off after the Hillsbrough disaster I'm afraid and we ain't been the same since.
Like Colin say's look at Cloughie, in fact look at Fergie, Paisley, Dalglish. They didn't need notebooks and fecking pie charts.
If this is "turning a failing club around", I'd hate to see what we'd been like if it had gone wrong then !!
Last year one trophy, 2 finals, 3 trips to Wembley, European qualification, 8th in PL,
what this year no trophies, no trip to Wembley, no finals, Euro qualification ?, where in PL ?
I agree there does appear to be plenty of work to be done at Liverpool now, but in my opinion as I've said before, I know we finished 8th last year, but there was less work to be done if KK had stayed and I think this year we would have done far better than this.
I've got to admit the figures don't make very good reading and as we all know we desperately need Champions League football not just for finance but for status as well.
My main concern after looking at this other graph that was published,
is the worrying data about "administrative expenses" being actually higher than the whole turnover figure. I know LFC were slated recently for how much they pay agents etc. but I'd like to know more what this "administrative expense" actually is ?
If its wages and running costs then we've got a serious problem spending more than we generate.
Also found it quite interesting reading the report what a difference progressing in the domestic cups makes as well, apparently it would have looked a lot worse hadn't we had their finances to fall back on.
Dave, the arguement is consistent but to put it in simpler terms,
Player A's (Apples) need time for judgement ie Henderson and Downing because they were proven to be good players elsewhere before,Henderson has played at every level for England and is U21 Captain and Downing was Villa's player of the year the year we bought him hence they don't become shyte overnight!
Player B, (Oranges) Players you don't need to give 18 months to assess because you can tell after a month ! Borini fall's straight away into the Vorinin category, i.e. anyone whose watched football can see he's not gonna be anywhere near Sturridge, this is a guy who since signing a full time contract with Chelsea has scored 15 goals in 5 years !
With regards Lucas I never criticised him because again came to us as an attacking midfielder and U21 Brazillian captain, Rafa changed his game to a defensive midfielder and now he's the reason we are showing consistency again now he's back.
I think your right Colin, every keeper has a shelf life I'm afraid and Reina's been here 7 year's nearly and I've not seen him as injured or out of sorts. Everybody raised an eye when we let Clemence go but again it was right and Brucie then gave us something else.
What about a swap deal with Victor Valdes and a bit of cash to us on top?
Is that why our U21's are the only unbeaten team in the country this season in the Barclays Premiership U21's finishing top of group 3 league with the likes of of Chelsae U21's and Man City U21's who got 18 and 10 points respectively whilst LFC were unbeaten and got the most points of any team in the 3 groups, Manure includeddwith 30 points?
They currently now sit again unbeaten on top of the Elite League in Phase 2 again unbeaten above Spurs, Manure and Arsenal !
Nice to see you've done your research kn@bhead !
Know what you mean Colin !
The problem the way we play at the moment there's no credible plan B. how do you think we would have done Sunday if we had AC to fetch on when plan A's not working?
Don't forget he also defended well as well where is height came in useful.
If I remember right Carroll scored twice on his Anfield debut against City!, he knew where the net was there and at Newcastle!
Now I'm not saying his performance for us was prolific and I hope I'm wrong about Borini but having played the game myself for many a year when you look at Sturridge and you know straight away he's gonna do well, broken foot or not Borini looks lost everytime he plays. This is a guy who signed a full time contract with Chelski in 2007 and now we've got him !
Yes we should have got more out of Carroll but I'll bet you when the dust settles on both their careers, Andy will come out top and it will be Fabio who !
I admit there have been some very good performances this year, with regards the youngsters they have looked good but are now appearing to be getting burnt out. Like one of the old boys said the other day, the youngsters would get a game in our day, but when you were 3-0 up and cruising not 3-1 down at a cold wet away match with a pitch like a ploughed field !
With regards tinted glasses, if you read the post I didn't say KK didn't have a bad day at the office and mentioned the Bolton match away as the only time I can honestly say we were really
Like I've said before if KK had been given one more season and was shyte again then I'd hold my hand up and say fair enough...but like yourself having lived through it and dined at the top table for all those years past LFC today just doesn't "feel" right and I don't think I'll feel it again any day soon.
You're probably right regards the Spurs game I probably was too harsh there as we did actaully show committment even though we didn't get the result.
I disagree however on a couple of other points, even though I think he wanted to I don't think KK really got a lot of opportunities to throw eggs into Carroll basket because he seemed either injured or didn't start many a game last year !
With regards Suarez I agree last year there were many a missed chance but I do think he's addressed the goal to shot ratio this time around.
Henderson and Downing I feel are now becoming the players KK thought he was buying.
Wholeheartedly agree with the United point and it is probably the main reason I'm a bittter and twisted LFC fan because I can remember when we had that same winning mentality and strode nonchalantly over English and European teams !
In a nutshell....WE WERE THE BEATLES.....NOW WE'RE OASIS !!
I'm sorry but this post is a load of bo!!ox !
Suarez was signed by KK, his first on his return to LFC (see official website).
"Kuyt was treated badly, although he is the most hard working Liverpool player ever seen"...so Kuyt was harder working than likes of Stevie Heighway, Chris Lawler, Callaghan or McManaman even to name a few?
It's also ironic that some of the most recent consistent displays have been from Downing and Henderson. This is not down to BR, but the fact that eventually someone who is U21 England captain on a regualr basis and Aston Villa's player of the year before he left don't become shyte overnight they need time to settle at a bigger club. It's funny how people slagged Carroll off until towards the end of last season when it was beginning to happen for him, yes £35M too much but Kenny's hand was forced with hours to go by the £50M Torres !
"Borini and Assaidi has future and can be trained very well"....don't think so ! You either know where the goal is or not ie Sturridge who does look a good buy, but don't be surprised if BR end's up eith more failures because they're not up to the PL including the one on his way from Inter!
Before people say he hasn't had the £20M or s to spend, I don't think he feels comfortable buying superstars because he can't manage them, hence all the buys are Chelski reserves, ex Swansea or Reading.
