  • The 4 - 1 win at Preston has, I believe, undone the hoo-doo that the 4 - 1 "not-a-win" over Plymouth seemed to have put on the team. Since that disgraceful day at Home Park we just havent gelled. The fixture cancellations didn't help either, but a couple of astute signings by MR (doesn't Texiera look awesome) should see us into the play-offs.
In truth I hope we don't go up, we aren't ready either on the pitch or off it, but a good showing in the play-offs and the added £££s it would bring can set us up for next season.. Go Reds Go

  • back home again!!
Thats how it feels, going to be great facing the likes of West Brom, Pal#$%$, Southampton, Wolves,et al. [OK so maybe Wolves are an exception]
I mean , no disrespect to the likes of Donny, Yeovil, Brentford, Walsall but we do BELONG above you lot, as for Huddersfield, we belong above you too but don't care how you feel about it!!

No Dorothy, you are quite right, I have not bought a paper for 10 years and quite frankly, if the rest of us fans followed suit then perhaps it might make a difference, just think what the "Super soaraway Sun"s circulation would be without the england fans??
    All together now

When will Fifa bring in the video ref?

    by A Yahoo! User Jun 27, 2006 01:32

Mark, refer to my earlier post, the fact is the "advantage" would tend to be less played and it might even make the refs job easier. After a few matches the cheats would know they were going to be found out and therefore would tend to stop. The thing is the ref would have no hesitation in blowing for the infringement(hence fewer instances of advantage), since there would be a free kick either way; This would be balanced by the guilty player being booked(and perhaps sent off) for diving. I think that for a short time there would be a slightly higher percentage of "fouls" blown for, but as video evidence became the norm there would be less fouls and a more free flowing game

Maybe he meant hard as nails!!!

  • Been thinking this for years but maybe now is the time.
Does anyone seriously think that the papers want England to do well??
Fact 1 Bad news sells better than good news
Fact 2 The papers are always on the lookout for muck raking gossip about the players, manager etc. which they know is bound to upset our chances AND they always use the right to publish argument, irregardless of this effect.
Fact 3 If there is no muck to rake they invent it, viz Sven in Arabia. Entrapment results in a case being thrown out of court, so lets throw the papers out.
Fact 4 The constant inquiry into private lives has no bearing on the player or managers ability. if we really wanted the team to do well we would concentrate on the positive, but that does not sell papers.

Question, can anyone honestly say they needed to know about Rebecca Loos, or that secretary from the FA?? The only winners from all the press #$%$ stirring are the nonentities involved, (Loos is now earning as a TV presenter) the Publicists (Max I will sell anything for the right price, Clifford) and of course the journalists who are getting paid vast sums of money for inventing stories from the safety of their air-conditioned office, instead of looking for real news, in somewhere like Afghanistan. For the football fan, being conned into thinking that all this is worth knowing should be heavily weighed against what it is doing to our chances as a national team.

IS ANYONE HAPPY WITH THE APPOINTMENT OF MCLAREN?

    by Dan Jun 27, 2006 21:18

I agree, try this for a scenario: FA want Scolari but he is an honourable man and doesnt want to leave Portugal, the press make it easy for him to publicly refuse (don't ya just love fleet street) But in reality he tells the FA, "look guys, I have to take Portugal, and it won't do either team any good if I say yes now, so just appoint some numbnut to hold the press til after the world cup, and then when the coast is clear I'll pop over".
Makes sense to me, I mean why else would the FA appoint McClaren?? Mind you whenever did the FA make sense

A sensible post gets a sensible answer, I hope you do beat Argentina, because we have more chance against you than the handball diving brigade, but if you do have to lose, please try to get some of them sent off!!

Actually the monkeys belong on the mainland and, along with snakes, only made it to islands where there was a land bridge before the end of the ice age. By the way being on an Island we have no monkeys, only 2 relatively harmless snakes (Ireland has none) and no bad diseases, so you can keep your Rabies as well. Someone blow up the channel tinnel and keep us safe!!

All good comments, guys, however, lets look at the overall picture, There is no reason why FIFA could not "experiment" with video replay, and it would certainly be better than all these new balls they are hell bent on introducing. Their main argument is that football is a free flowing game , without the constant interruptions of other games that do use video, such as American gridiron. However this is just a smokescreen, the scenario is that if a foul is committed then the whistle is blown, thus interrupting play. The video could then be checked and , this is the important bit, if it is a foul then there is a free kick and/or card, if it is a dive then the free kick goes the other way as would the card, as in the Rivaldo incident in Japan. Similarly for a goal, such as Maradonas "hand of God" the video replay would have disallowed the goal and caused Maradona to be booked/sent off, and there would have been no interruption of play because play stops and returns to the centre circle after a goal anyway. Other advantages such as post match analysis of off the ball incidents or Figos head butt and the refs handling of the issue could also be examined in a relaxed post match atmosphere.
The only reason it won't happen is because so much corporate cash is involved and the so called superstars, who are so talented that they need to cheat to gain an advantage over a team 47 places below them, (Brazil/Ghana) are so scared of being exposed for the frauds that they are.
