Shohei Ohtani had three doubles to improve his major league-leading batting average to .371, rookie Landon Knack got his first victory and the Los Angeles Dodgers routed the Washington Nationals 11-2 on Wednesday night. The Dodgers had a season-high 20 hits en route to their third straight victory, with Mookie Betts and Will Smith each having four hits and Andy Pages homering. Nick Senzel homered for Washington.
Shohei Ohtani’s 450-foot home run on Tuesday night at Nationals Park was the hardest hit of his career. “I thought I hit it really good,” Ohtani said Wednesday through his interpreter, Will Ireton. It is the hardest-hit home run by a Dodger in the Statcast era, which began in 2015.
Dave Roberts thinks Shohei Ohtani can be even better with more plate discipline with runners in scoring position. The Los Angeles Dodgers manager approached the two-time AL MVP about a week ago to discuss how Ohtani could better control the strike zone. Ohtani hit his 176th home run on Sunday, surpassing Hideki Matsui for the most in Major League Baseball among players born in Japan.
