Most attacking players either create goals or score goals – but stars from Barcelona, Manchester City and PSG are among those to do both at the start of the 2022-23 season.

Using data from transfermarkt, we’ve compiled a list of the top 10 players from Ligue 1, the Bundesliga, Premier League, La Liga and Serie A in terms of their combined goals and assists contributions.

We doubt you’ll be too surprised at the identity of number one…

=6. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (16)

Napoli have stormed Serie A so far and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has received plenty of plaudits along the way.

The Georgian winger has made light work of adapting to a new league after moving over from Rubin Kazan in the summer. We absolutely love him.

=6. Randal Kolo Muani (16)

Randal Kolo Muani has been a lot of fun to watch for Eintracht Frankfurt this season.

The French star made his move over to Germany in the summer, following two successful seasons with Nantes in Ligue 1.

He already has five goals and 11 assists to his name in just 15 Bundesliga appearances this season, that’s some going.

=6. Jamal Musiala (16)

The 19-year-old, who spent most of his upbringing in South London, has seen the void left by Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich and decided to step up and become the Bundesliga’s new MVP.

Nine goals and seven assists in 15 appearances so far. A key reason that inevitably Bayern will march their way to yet another league title, and a player that we can’t help but love.

=6. Jonathan David (16)

The Canadian forward has been in fine form for Lille this season as he has scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 19 appearances so far.

Lens are currently on a six-game unbeaten streak in Ligue 1, which stretches back to October. With just three points separating them and Monaco, they will be eyeing up a place in the top four.

=6. Ivan Toney (16)

The Brentford striker can’t stop scoring goals right now. With 13 goals already this season, he has already surpassed his goal tally from last season and we’re only in January. Toney has also provided three assists for his teammates so far.

He’s also probably the best penalty-taker in the world right now.

=6. Harry Kane (16)

Had it not been for a free-scoring Norwegian robot, we’d all be raving about the season Kane is having right now. The Tottenham forward has scored 15 goals already, whilst also providing one assist.

If he was to maintain his goalscoring ratio of 0.75 goals per game, he would end the season with 29 goals which would be his second most prolific season to date. It’s a shame that the rest of the Tottenham squad hasn’t been up to his level.

=4. Victor Osimhen (17)

Manchester United are said to be weighing up a move for Osimhen and it’s easy to see why. Napoli have been electric this season and he has been their main source of goals.

The 24-year-old has scored 13 goals as well as provided four assists so far. Since their return to action after the World Cup, he has five goal contributions in four matches and is bang in form right now.

=4. Robert Lewandowski (17)

Despite swapping Bavaria for Barcelona, there’s been absolutely no drop in Lewandowski’s goal and assist output.

He’s fired 13 goals past bewildered La Liga goalkeepers while chipping in four assists as the Camp Nou has quickly fallen in love with the Poland international.

3. Lionel Messi (18)

The obituaries were premature; Messi’s first season at PSG was low-key disappointing with just six goals and 14 assists.

Now a World Cup champion, we’ve seen a vintage Messi this season as the Argentine has already chalked up eight goals and 10 assists for the Ligue 1 champions.

Messi is on fire at the moment.

2. Neymar (21)

Neymar looked set for the exit door at PSG in the summer with owner team-mate Kylian Mbappe reportedly unhappy about playing alongside the 30-year-old for much longer.

But the fulcrum of Brazil’s attack has responded in the best possible manner; stopping the extra-curricular nonsense, rolling up his socks and chipping in with a remarkable 11 goals and 10 assists in 17 appearances for Christophe Galtier’s side.

1. Erling Haaland (28)

It’s only January and journalists are already running out of words for Haaland’s jaw-dropping start to life in the Premier League.

Forget the sheer number of goals for a second; it’s the variety of his 25 strikes that have left English defenders quivering with fear and Haaland has helpfully contributed three assists too.

He’s already surpassed the number of goals that Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min won the Golden Boot with last season. God help us all.
